Interesting, but I think the Tran Organization focused more on baccarat than on blackjack. Much easier to take advantage of an unshuffled slug in bacc than BJ.

Thanks for the interesting article. The chalenge is how to fake a shuffle without getting caught, IMO.
Hard to believe was a casino paying almost a million dollars in 90' and even watching the surveillance cameras to figure out how this odd result ended up hapenning.

The problem with baccarat, for example, would be the multiple dealers. But in case it worked it would be an automatic win!

I have to make a very undemocratic comment. I think the US Govt. should go to ANY bank that allows these "secret protected" accounts and simply inform them that they are no longer secret to us. Just go peruse ALL their damn accounts at gunpoint, so to speak. Screw them - if they want to refuse all the hand outs we give most of them, that's their choice.

Bribing dealers is effective, particularly when every dealer already is convinced his head is on the chopping block anyway since half the dealers have been fired since some economist sneezed and the bean counters said lower costs. When dealers can look around and see a half empty casino it doesn't take much persuasion for them to accept a five thousand dollar lay-off bonus.
With an unshuffled slug Baccarat or even miniBacc is very profitable. Video shows hands mainly but even if face is clearly shown so what? They travel the country and disappear using multiple aliases and passports.

In the examples given, the big player followed basic strategy. How unusual is it to stand on a hard 16 vs a 10?

I laughed when the TV news used standing on 16 vs a 10 as their example of the big player's using information of the next card in the shoe. They could have used a much better example such as standing on 12 vs dealer's 10 with a 10 as the next card in the shoe.
Standing on 16 vs a 10 is often better than hitting because of just a small deficit of small cards in the remaining cards.
