I want to recommend every low-roller player that whishes to stay in the strip(or near strip) area and atmosphere, and does not like smoke, to play at Palms. I did it on my trip and it was one of my better decisions!
There is a free shuttle to everyone from balllys to rio, every half an hour, 11:00 to 01:00. The Rio is also nice hotel with a gear attraction-the voodo zipline, and it is a walking distance from palms(and gold coast, which I did not try because it seems to be too "local").

For the Palms: the survey on this side mentions they have few 5$ blackjack, which pays 3:2 for BJ and okay rules(for 5$). In the noon(when I have played), there was only one table opened, but I saw more(closed). Please note they have also 10$ table that pays 6:5(strangle, I will explain in a diffrenet post what they said to me).
Great dealers, proffesional and funny.
The survery also mentions 3$ video BJ, pays 3:2, but I could not find such a thing. They also have few good VP.

I do not know if this place is okay also in dinner-maybe to crowded to get a table, maybe smokier. But I think you should try if you want low limits, good rules and don't like the smoke of downtown.

*One drawback: very limited food options as I remember.

If anyone has any opinion about Palms or any other near-strip casino whith good blackjack(besides the smoky downtown), you can comment...

From Ballys,or Harrahs, you can also take a shuttle to Sam's Town. From there you can access the good low roller BJ of the Boulder Strip. A five minute walk brings you to the Longhorn with its $2 game with its double on any three cards rule.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

Good tip. Strip is luxury, off-strip is value. Rio is a good mix with a good location.

Try Fremont early in the day and smoke might not be a problem. To me, something like South Point + a car rental would be a better vacation than being stuck on the strip (and would cost less): Better gambling, nice property, treat you well without nickle-and-diming everything, close enough to the tourist action, easy to get out of to see the desert,

Sound too "smokey" and "local". On my next travel(I do not know when I will fly again to USA), I want to feel the full expreience.
I really enjoyed the strip stmoshpere. When I was in some "locals" casinos in Europe(short visit, part of bigger trips) it wasn't so fun.
So I think the Rio-Gold coast and especially Palms are great "balance".

Any of the larger, newer hotels are less smokey than some of the older strip properties like Flamingo. If you're paying for an international flight, just do you what you like and don't worry so much about value. At a $5 table, 6-5 costs you only $3 -$6 per hour depending on how full/slow the game is.

But it is not a reason to be a "sucker" at also ruin the odds for everyone else. I play 5$ 6:5 only if:
Really good atmosphere(and no smoking nearby).
Table is almost full-slower play.
The rest of the rules are okay.

I don't like to be short-paid and don't want to harm everyone else-if we don't play the 6:5, it will be gone maybe.
For 3$ or less, I less care if the rest of the rules or okay. But any house edge over 1.5 makes carps a better option...
