OK - as you all know from the AC Weekend thread, I am even for the year when it comes to actual gambling (not counting comps)

I am heading to AC for a final trip of 2012 from Dec. 30th - Jan. 2nd

As forum members normally give me unsolicited advice LOL I am hereby asking the members of this forum for advice on this trip

I will take all advice into consideration on this trip, in the following areas:

1-strategy;
2-money management;
3-food/drink;
4-flirting with female dealers!

:) Let's have fun with this.

1. A better count strategy. I watched his short youtube video and this system sucks!

Is there a link to the said youtube video?

3. Whatever you can get for free or as cheap as possible.
4. I wouldn't get involved with casino personnel.

Getting involved and flirting are two different things :)

1.) I generally like your hit and run strategy, though strongly agree with others who have said that you should never leave a shoe during a positive-running count. I think that you should employ the hi/lo counting system because it is very easy to learn, but you have expressed a general reluctance to do so.

I think that your spread needs to increase and your base bet needs to decrease. You may have to eat slightly worse Rules at a lower table minimum, but it is quite possible that you would be able to more than make up for it by having a much larger betting spread. You have stated that you are going with a bankroll of about $7,000, and you will be there for four days, so you probably don't want to lose more than 1/4th on the first day, 1/3rd of whatever is left the second day and so on...

2.) See the second paragraph of #1.

3.) I have no idea.

4.) I don't advise drawing any more attention to yourself than necessary if you are going to employ a wider spread. I would converse with the dealers if you can, certainly, because the fact that you are counting is less obvious, but nothing egregious.

Okay Ace, let's try to get you through this trip as unscathed as possible.

There's no time to learn a new count and execute it free of errors so Speed Count it is and that's not the worst of it. You've got a $7000 bankroll for a four day trip where you'll be spreading 1-4 black. That's only 18 max bets so this could go sideways quickly. Taking it to the extreme you could lose $3200 or almost half your bankroll on one bet. Can it happen? Yes. Will it happen to you? Probably not but it's got to make you think.

You've got to make lower bets. The casino won't like it, your host won't like it and you won't like it so do it as unobtrusively as possible. Wonging in is not possible and wonging out is difficult at best so get out of the lounge and over to pit 1. As you know, it's the same game with the same no mid shoe entry but with lower minimums. Go ahead and place your $100 bet off the top and begin play as you normally do.

Try not to play negative shoes. Depending on how far along the shoe is take a restroom break, phone call or simply sit out at the table. If you must for some reason play all, you now have some room to reduce your bet all the way down to table minimum if need be. It can make a difference. This can't be done in the high limit room and if you do it right you can still maintain your black chip rating.

Next is index play. I'm not sure if you use any or how they would apply to the Speed Count but let's try some. In high counts, take even money, buy insurance, stay on 16 vs 10 and 12 vs 2 and 3. If you must play all, hit 12 vs 4 in negative counts and be prepared to get clobbered by the other players.

Forget about the $2500 win goal. Just keep slugging it out and never leave a positive shoe no matter how many hands you have lost. I'd hate to see you up $2450 only to lose it all and then some looking for that last $50. It happens all the time so again don't worry about goals.

Good luck and I'll leave you with this fun fact. One of the guys associated with the Speed Count is also credited with coining the term ploppy. Go figure.

AC on NYE has a weird table bet system.

In the higher end spots like Borgata, Taj, Trop, & Ceasars; it's mostly $25 limits, which are mostly full and then $50 & $100 with open spots. They set these "minimums" at about 6pm and don't go down until the wee hours of the morning. Other places like Golden Nugget, Trump Plaza, Atlantic Club & Claridge(Ballys) will have lower limits like $10 & $15. Although I doubt you would wanna bother and I can't comment on Revel having never been there for NYE, but I'd bet they'll be in the same boat as Borgata that night.

I'm sure this isn't a concern for you,but playing at a $25 table on NYE would result in some slower/inexperienced players sitting at the table with you(because they would normally play $10). Which I'm sure you'd avoid anyway! but if you feel like cooling down your bets to greens, this is what you are in for.

Money Management, the best action in BJ comes AFTER midnight. When people are cooled down, drunk and no longer looking to "kill time" until the ball drops. You wil have more elbow room at the table and more open tables to go to for better variance. However, trying this before midnight will be a daunting task and you could find yourself stuck at a lousy table because every other one in sight is full.

Food & Drink is the same as always, nothing special put out. But the prices do go WAY up and some buffets will stay open til 10 or later. Drink service will of course be slower and the waitresses will have no time to talk. Bars will be packed and people stumbling out of them, so always keep an eye out for any potential fun!

Female dealers are an interesting sort, they are either happy to be there or upset they are not at a real party and are instead working. But chatting with them about other things will probably highlight their evening and giving them a small tip(s) will surely get you on their good side.

I actually do those index plays (when the Speed Count is plus/minus) and have suffered the wrath of others at the table yelling that I "don't know what I'm doing" (of course, many people on these boards tell me I don't know what I'm doing LOL)

The $2,500 win goal was basically my artificial stopping point (but, after listening to GWE last night, the hosts as well as MITJohnnyC were perplexed by an email from a gentelman who set an artificial win goal of $30k for his year playing VP) - so, considering all the greats (including you) arguing against artificial win limits, I will refrain from setting one.

Seeing as how this is Revel's first year being open, this is their first chance to show what they got on NYE - I will give a full report not only on the gambling but on the atmosphere and scenery :)

1. Yeah no time to learn a new count..stick with what you know.

2. Money Management...this works for me. I lose no more than 33% of my trip bankroll in one session. So if your BR is 7K, once you are down 2.4K ish walk away. Find another table or casino.

3. Watch out for NYE amateur hour. The people who drink twice a year go crazy on NYE...give them room unless you enjoy puke on your shoes.

4. Seems like you might have some skills with the ladies. I'm sure you will do fine. The talent level at Revel on NYE should be off the charts.

Vendman - I agree on money management - that seems to be a weak link in my blackjack chain

I am not much of a drinker at all so I will not be partaking in anything more than a sip of champagne

Seems too many ladies know one another that work there and know me as well UHOH

Actuality: "Hey boys, I'm going to hit AC for new year's eve. Am taking advice on how to play it."

I'm going to need to follow your reports from my phone. Looking forward to them, as always!

I have pretty much decided I am not playing any craps on New Year's Eve. I can barely tolerate the idiots on a normal night, so I think I am going to sit this one out. I believe my wife and I have a party invite at Paris, and I look forward to just strolling around Vegas and take in the sight of the road of Las Vegas Blvd full of people. Should be quite a spectacle.

RC - I love our thinking - it is basically our both setting forth a reasonable course of action, then, in the excitement of the moment, we do whatever the hell we want...(and by this, I mean as far as our plans on when we will gamble, not how we will gamble)

I would very much welcome trip reports from you (even if you have to write it afterwards if you are limited to a smartphone) and would love to see pics of your Vegas NYE trip!

I will try my best to take plenty of pics from this trip!

Ace,
I always post trip reports in my blog. I figured that was a way to give anyone who was interested a chance to read about my trips, and not pollute the forum. Your trips are watched by too many people for that to be effective for you. There is so much commentary on your trips it wouldn't work in a blog.
Posting a couple of pics from NYE might be doable.

You do what most of us don't dare do, no matter
what happens you keep going back for more. Its
