I go to a cardroom that has recently installed this game. Certain unusual situations confuse the dealers and floor supervisors. Is there a set of official rules about exactly when free doubling, real doubling, free splitting, and real splitting is allowed?

In particular, the wizard's strategy allows for real money doubles of the free portion of a split (i.e. split 9/9 versus a 6), receive aces on each 9. On the first (paid) hand, the proper strategy is to stand. The second (free) hand the soft 20 should be doubled, for real money. This action (doubling a free bet for real money) is not allowed by most dealers and floor managers. Is that proper? What would be the effect on house edge?

Are houses allowed to vary the rules for this game, or must these variations be approved by shufflemaster to comply with the trademark?
