Too bad BuzzPaff is serving a suspension. He likes cherry picking good stuff at garage sales and reselling them on eBay. This topic would be right up his alley.

By the way, I noticed in Baltimore they call them "yard sales," while California and Nevada usually use "garage sales." How about the middle or the country?

Here in MN we differentiate the name by where the event is held. Or we use the over-arching rummage sale name.

Wal-Mart?

Ding, ding, ding! Funniest response in the hour. (maybe day or week....)

In NJ we generally have Garage Sales, although I've also seen lawn sale, yard sales estate sale, as well as the honest approach: Junk Sale.

I think that we use "garage sale" more in Colorado, but "yard sale" is equivalent, just not used quite as much. Of course, most of the garage sales take place in the driveway or in the yard.
I heart Crystal Math.

It's yard sale in Alabama.

Estate sales are different, usually held by an independent agent selling stuff that belonged to a deceased person.

I'd say 'yard' and 'garage' are interchangeable up here in the Northwest. Personally I prefer the term 'Garbage Sale'
