My own theory about roulette is ...

Well, my own theory about roulette is that casinos should be more careful to avoid disappointing their customers! I went to one Vegas casino because I had heard that they offered European roulette but after hours and hours of expectant play I found out that that European Roulette ain't got nothing to do with European Bathing.

>if you play it then you should only bet on plays that pay 9:1, 12:1, 18:1 or 36:1.
>There is simply no reason to play at the high house edge unless you are going to get some excitement.
Since its the exact same House Edge of 5.26 percent and all that changes is the impact that Variance will have upon your bankroll, the betting on the higher payoff bets means that your are trading Time At Table for Excitement. If Lady Variance smiles favorably upon the bettor, the high payoff is great, but otherwise, for me at least, its a few spins and then adios.

So if its still 5.26 percent... why should it be a "better" deal to take the high payout risks?

The idea is that a casino offer's a trade of variance for expectation... the more variance you want, the more you pay in expectation. If you want lower variance (1:1 and 2:1 pay offs) you can get those at other table games than roulette where you pay less in expected value.
"Then you can admire the real gambler, who has neither eaten, slept, thought nor lived, he has so smarted under the scourge of his martingale, so suffered on the rack of his desire for a coup at trente-et-quarante" - Honore de Balzac, 1829

This is so good I think I'll bet the system on every number at once then I must win on every number that hits. It must be a winner if it works with one number.
Soon I'll retire to the south pacific and live a life of ease.
