Hi all, new member here. I like these forums!

I'll be taking a road trip from Salt Lake City to Vegas and I'm wondering if it's worth a stop in Mesquite for blackjack. I'm an experienced AP counter with a relatively low bankroll, usually $10-$50 spread. How are the casinos there?: decent rules? good deck penetration? no heat on a 1-5 spread? friendly dealers? good comps? Etc..

Thanks.

I stopped at the main casino there once on the same drive. Virgin River casino I believe. I played Craps for maybe 20 minutes, kept a $1 chip souvenir and left. I wasn’t in a hurry and I almost never regret visiting anywhere once, but I’d say you’re not missing anything is you miss this place. Craps table was fine but the joint/clientele was pretty low class as I recall. Which wasn’t a surprise.

Sorry I can’t comment on the BJ rules/counting opportunities there. I’m not a counter. I’m not sure what they could comp you that would be of any real value. I doubt there’s any good restaurant or hotel there.

I stayed at the Casablanca, and was favorably impressed by the property. The restaurant was pretty good for a budget place too. The casino was on the small side, but it didn’t feel very crowded.

They had a lot of families with kids staying there, as the swimming pool was a draw.

Didn’t note the. BJ rules, but the craps table was pretty standard. The Casablanca is a sister property to the Virgin River.

I really like the Eureka. It is always so clean, they have the best video poker games around, and great giveaways in their player tracking club.

I love their 100 play Double Bonus Deuces games.

According to vpfree they removed or reduced pay schedules on 50-100 play games a few months ago. Hopefully for you they missed something.

I have not played but did scout the casinos twice a few years apart while passing through, good for a cheap meal and hotel closer to Zion.

The single deck game at eureka has amazing rules better than Wendover it’s a 0.06% HE I believe. I haven’t played it, it is protected from any sort of professional level play with a 20-100 table limit when I was there. Double deck games both have a lower limit and higher max.

Personally I think I’d avoid Casablanca/Virgin River, theres a story from a GWAE episode from June 2014 (David and Kyle) of a pretty nasty incident with two players of an illegal detention, kicking out of room and refusal to cash chips from about 5 years ago at Virgin River. They players were only up a few hundred dollars and the lawsuit cost the VR’s insurer almost 200k with no non-disclosure...In court one of the security guards supposedly made a comment to the effect of “that’s the way we’ve always done it and always will.” Sounded like was a hc thing, perhaps they would be lighter on counters some places are more nasty with hc’ing than counting, OTOH I’ve run into places that can be pretty nasty to counters and rarely do anything but correct the game for hc.
