LOL I'm almost rooting for the hackers here. I can't stand the way cash is being removed from society.

I say "almost" because ordinary people may have got hurt here which is not good.

The last two places on the list are gas stations/convenience stores, which can give you $1 of gas for 200 points. I'd rather buy food with points if that's the way it's going to be. But if I was going to go to the casino for a visit to reactivate my rewards card before 12 months of inactivity wipes away the points, they'd better fix this problem this month. Imagine that, they shut down the credit card system for the gas pumps, a the hotels, the restaurants, the ATM's, the sports betting, the Bingo, the lines of credit supposedly, etc.

New York State has a law (March 21, 2026) which requires merchants to accept cash, up to $20 bills (not required to accept $50's or $100's); so not everything is cashless yet, but hotel reservations usually are. Other states have no such law and people without debit/credit cards are noticing a societal shift away from cash at a fast pace. I ran into a cashless BJ's self-checkout the other day, they switched them all over on Sept. 1st, 2026. If I want to pay cash, I have to get in line at one of their 20 empty registered lines.

Exceptions
Large Bills: Stores are not required to accept bills over $20.

Remote Transactions: Cash is not required for orders made by phone, mail, or online unless the transaction occurs on-site.

Cash-to-Card Devices: Stores may provide devices that convert cash into prepaid cards, provided no fees are charged, the minimum deposit is $1 or less, and balances do not expire.

This law mirrors New York City’s cash acceptance ordinance from 2020 but extends the requirement statewide, reinforcing cash as a protected payment option in an increasingly digital economy.

Turning Stone is a Native American resort casino owned and operated by the Oneida Indian Nation in New York. This casino probably is not well regulated by the New York State Gaming Commission, so they have their own outlaws. Players should be aware of the risk of playing there.
