If the real incubation period is 14 days (could be longer), I wonder how many confirmed infections will appear in Florida during that timeframe. The statistical epidemiology fascinates me. (I decided it would be "less than proper" to do a poll.)
Florida mobilized statewide when it prepared for the Year 2000 Problem. In 2004 and 2005, when Florida was pummeled by five major hurricanes, the state used the Y2K statewide mobilization plan as a springboard for hurricane remediation efforts. Those who engineered the Y2K success were used as resources to help identify and avoid problems from a few years earlier.
Unfortunately -- both for Tampa's casino patrons and public -- I see no such coordination effort today. Instead, state government requires local county health professionals -- who often respond to reporters' questions in their regular work -- now to get prior approval from Tallahassee before replying. This does not instill public confidence. Stay tuned...
Good luck, but the cases you are fleeing are still presumptive, not confirmed. Remember to take "wet-naps" with you so that chips, door handles and chips don't spread. DRY hands spread fewer germs than wet ones.Quote: DeMangoThe solution is to hit the road and head to Biloxi for a few nights. Be there tonight!

I suspect that is precisely how it's spreading
I'm sure the folks in Biloxi will welcome you with open arms once they hear you live one block from the latest outbreak
Having said that, I have been guilty of assuming that this virus would not penetrate America very much, and this this was a disease that was occurring far away. But.......Holy $%@#, I believe I might have been wrong.
Quote: gordonm888I have been told that there has not yet been a single COVID-19 fatality anywhere in the world of a child under the age of 9. Most fatalities have been older patients who had some other underlying disease/medical condition that weakened them.

only two percent die and most cases are mild which is why it spreads.
Yetif the buffet line is long, just mention to people ahead of you that the lines were much shorter when you were in China last week. I have an idea tat will speed you thru buffet lines and checkin lines.Quote: FleaStiffonly two percent die and most cases are mild which is why it spreads.

Until you realize you fall into those categories
2% of America's population isn't that bad (SMH).
2% of 360 million is miniscule
There are a few comments I could make about a group of mostly elderly white men this might help clean house but I don't want to break any WOV RULES

Yeah, everyone wants it to kill all the people who pissed them off over the internet.
The reality is going to be that it isn’t going to care who it kills.
2% is 100x more than the H1N1 flu, which was .02%. H1N1 killed an estimated 250,000 worldwide in 2009. (About 12000 in the US.)

I do, the more it kills the more interesting the story and the more interesting watching the news becomes. I just want to be entertained at almost any cost.

Ah, the difference between NY speak and the rest of the country
We don't drive for the most part so when we say down the street we usually are pretty literal.
I remember my first visit to California on a business trip. I confirmed with the concierge there was a Kinko's a minute away
Man I was walking for ten minutes before I turned back. At the hotel I said to the concierge I thought Kinkos was a minute away. He said, "like it is, only three miles down the road"

currently it is 25-50 times more deadly than flu based on death %. Are you willing to go to an extreme and only drink Corona beer as your only alcholic beverage until this passes? That would support them.

Imagine if it was called the Amazon Virus.
Online shopping would plummet.
Quote: onenickelmiracleTwo percent is a lot, especially if it's 2 percent this wave, 2% next year if it mutates. I don't want it to kill anyone, and I don't want to lose anyone important to me, and I don't want to die because I'm important to other people. Things like this really shows how weak our government really is. I'm not sure I believe this story being posted about how it kills old and sickly, I don't think it's true at all.
Not to minimize the effect this is having, but I'm sure the death rate on those infected will be far less than 1%. Remember, there will be many victims who seek no medical attention, and just be sick for a while and then get better. They will not be included in the 'non fatality' group. While pretty much everyone that does die will be included. And the 90 year old metastatic cancer patient barely hanging on will be listed as a coronavirus death if infected even if he was about to die from the cancer.
I see nothing wrong with the government's response. What would you want it to do? Ban travelers from Iran? China?

To be fair they make horrible beer.
So what? Like any product, it advertising that melds sales, not product quality.Quote: PokerGrinderTo be fair they make horrible beer.
I'd been playing with the idea of flying up to Seattle for Emerald Con. Changed my minds for other reasons, but now dealers and guests are bailing left and right. That's a fairly large economic hit, right there.
After the Las Vegas ,.our health care system was overwhelmed for months.
Elective surgeries were canceled, blood was in short supply and healthcare workers were forced to work much longer hours. This has the possibility of stressing the medical system to the breaking point. Just the number of hospital beds that might be needed is mind boggling.

That's why you have to add some Lyme to it, makes it bearable!

The Spanish flu killed 3.5 % worldwide. I have been looking at the %'s. It seems to be just as lethal, if not more.
Suseptible population has always been the very young and the very old. I don't expect my dad to make it, if he gets it.
A month ago, Someone claiming to be a biologist, said that he was informed that the incubation period is actually 3 weeks.

My wife has a terrible auto-immune disease which has been in remission for about 6 months now; she takes an oral chemotherapy drug every day that weakens and suppresses her immune system. If she catches the coronavirus, she will be at considerable risk. And since I am the only one who lives with her and I am the one that takes care of her, that means that I must NOT catch the coronavirus. No kidding, guys.
I live in Tenn, and so far only one confirmed case, in Nashville, over 130 miles away. But I am concerned and trying to educate myself and prepare. I'd welcome any advice.

If you get the right kind of mask, and make it fit well, she really would be safe from breathing the virus in while in crowds. And you replace it as recommended.
Wearing all the recommended gear is the only full protection though. Even then, it has to be removed correctly to keep from contamination from the virus since you can still pick it up from surfaces.
Hey, no one's around. Silly, but it should work.
I also switched to dial bacteria soap.
My bookkeeper sprays lysol everyday.
I rarely got sick when i used to exercise.
i was confusing two separateproducts. sorry.

Quote: onenickelmiracleSo there's a case in Nevada now. I've been thinking to stay away from the casino I sure could have. Is probably an advantage to be one of the first sick people so I'm not going to worry about it.
