Wonder if they ever caught the Purple Chip bandits at Ballys? It's been over a year since a group of thieves broke the box on a closed table and made off with over $3000 in purple chips.
Ballys countermeasure was to stop all distribution of Purple $500 chips from that day forward and any color up for $100 or more, would be for Black and Orange chips only. Any one trying to break or cash purples would presumably weed out the thieves. But I'm guessing it hasn't happened yet?

Not so sure, they still haven't allowed purple chip transactions since I was there 2 months ago, which would indicate they are still holding out hope the bandit will try to redeem either in person or via a patsy.
Plus, I know people were "asked" to give back money they were overpaid either at the table or at the cage in AC and never did. The casino simply trespassed them and did not pursue further legal action.
Surprise surprise, the thieves were NOT foolish enough to try and cash in the purple chips. So what does Ballys do???
They change their Entire Chip design to new logos, colors, patterns and likely magnetic tracking chips inside!
So their solution to prevent theft of around $3000 in chips is to spend over 10 times that replacing ALL the casino chips to the new layout!
