I play slots mostly, I'm diamond with total rewards, was black label with borgata and now platinum with mlife. I've noticed a few things that have me scratching my head...
Harrah's
- TR diamond, was almost to AL2 last year
- I'm usually the only person or one of a handful of people playing in the Diamond Cove
- Never had a host reach out to me
- A few times had one of the hosts that man the stand come introduce themselves, but other than that they don't do anything other than say hi
- Bartenders here seem to actively want to annoy me
I get a ton of mailers from TR and on their website. Never had a host reach out to me. Suites never offered through the website, and they used to hassle me at check in until I asked once what is the point of the Diamond card and coming here. What annoys me about the suite thing is they are often available on Expedia and I could just book them myself, they are not particularly expensive.
They seem to really be more interested in catering to the 20-something pool/nightclub crowd. Me as a 40-something guy get the "why are you here" attitude.
Seems to have really gone downhill and the experience isn't the greatest nowadays. The restaurants all universally suck. Probably going to just stop going here as I do not in any way feel taken care of at all tbh and just want to tell them to take their diamond card and shove it you know where. I mostly tried this out as an alternative to the borg trying to get better service and got the opposite.
Borgata
- Got the cake for my birthday 1st year I started playing there. Never again :-(
- Had a host email me once, and never heard from again, nobody's ever come to say hi to me or introduce themselves
- Occasionally/rarely get an Opus upgrade thrown my way at check in without asking
- On numerous occasions I've tried to just chill out by myself at the Gypsy Bar to catch some live music and relax, etc. and the waitress just walks right past me, so after awhile I just get up and walk out and nobody seems to care
- Had the same experience grabbing breakfast at the Metropolitan. Used to be the one thing I enjoyed, until one time the waitress at the bar threw me a big attitude so I just walked out and never went back.
It's really made me wonder if something is going on here that has the employees all angry with the place and miserable or something like that. Like I really was getting the sense that they were actively trying to piss off their better customers as some kind of passive/aggressive thing to get back at the place or something.
I play $5, $10, $25 and occasionally $100 slots here in their nice HL slot room/area. Have had some very nice wins. One would think they would want to win it back. They don't seem to give a poop.
I dunno if there are better alternatives where they take care of their players / have better service? Maybe the Mohegan Sun in PA or one of the pocono resorts would be a better/more high end experience?
By contrast my experience in Vegas was 10000% better and beyond what I was expecting, I was really shocked actually. Everybody from the invited check in to bartenders/waitresses who actually took an interest in me and would chat a bit to the host who came out to talk to me and setup limo for me and stuff. Whereas AC lately seems more like eh, we don't care. Is their focus now entirely on the "beautiful people" kids going to their nightclubs? Am I better off just flying to Vegas every other month? The Borgata is certainly more convenient but wth do you have to do to get decent service and an Opus there? Do they really have that many titanium/now Noir level players to compete with? Cuz I don't see them going in and out of the old titanium lounge when I'm there.
So is that it, is the death spiral nearly complete for AC, final nail in the coffin soon? Or is there something I can do to get taken care of at the borg short of male plastic surgery and dropping 20 years off my age?
Quote: rdw4potusYou got attitude from service workers in New Jersey? Oh, say it ain't so!
I'm actually a little surprised. I've been there several times, and even though I didn't expect it, everyone there was always very nice to me. There was one very unusual cocktail waitress at the Taj Mahal who kept calling me, "Daddy," which I thought was creepy as hell, but she was still friendly.
unfortunately, what are the alternatives?Quote: MaggieI could have written this exact post myself. You are not alone in this.
Trop AC's video poker sucks! their machines are like 10yrs old.
the ancient tier card reader on those machines doesn't give you any info.
you have to goto a kiosk to find out how many points you earned in that sitting.
maybe Golden nugget??? (but ive never been there)
All I can some up with is that they'd rather pretend it doesn't exist than to offer them to me at a discount, but that feels wrong too.
When there were 12 casinos, it cost $5 per night to stay in a Borgata "free" room and the employees were usually competent -- can't say they were ever as nice as the employees in Vegas.
Now that half the casinos have closed, it's $24 a night to stay in a free Borgata room, a 10-minute hold to get anyone on the phone at any time, and the employees are outright hostile to you.
Some of the employees just lie to you instead of doing their jobs. I called the Borgata the other day to cancel a reservation. After a 15-minute hold, I got on the line with a "Janay" and she said she canceled my reservation. Of course, on the Borgata mlife website you can see your reservations and I know she didn't cancel it. I had to call back a few hours later to cancel it again.
Quote: sodawaterThis is what happens in a market when half the competition closes. Worse products, worse service, and higher prices.

Her extra long fingernails may have gotten in the way.

Like that?
I noticed this demeanor in the service, too. That includes the casino and their personnel.
The dealers would occasionally hustle tips, and the pit bosses had this attitude that was just ‘different’ from every other casino I had ever visited. I’m sure it goes to the top.
It was a great experience. They must be reading the internet and/or have some management that is taking steps to class it up a bit.
When you first get there, coming in out of the parking garage, there is a really nice older security guard guy who is usually posted there and then floats around the diamond cove...he was greeting everyone saying hi and have a nice dinner.
The girl at the diamond check-in was super super nice which has not always been my experience.
They did something neat Friday night in the high limit Diamond Cove they had a guy come around with hors d oeuvres. I've never seen them do that before. They've one upped the Borgata with that one.... and it probably didn't cost them anything extra either other than simply making the effort, since they can use the food from the Diamond Lounge.
Generally everybody throughout the place was saying Hi and nice to meet you, everywhere.
Totally different from the last few trips I've made there. Its hard to quantify but all those little things might not seem like much individually but added all together it really makes the experience a lot nicer. They did a great job.
One thing I noticed they changed is they took away the host desk that used to be in front of the diamond cove entrance and replaced it with a flat screen TV that was advertising Ballys, kind of an odd change.
Also, the space between tables is tight and it can get crowded on weekends. However, the rooms are nice and usually comped for myself & friends.
I do wish they would have more TR kiosks around the place, but what are ya gonna do? Overall, it is nice but poorly designed and makes for long walks to find what you're looking for.
