If I got robbed, I'd be sitting in a police station filling out a report. Not gambling

i don't know that she didn't fill out a police report. she didn't say how long ago it happened. some people can't resist gambling when they've traveled somewhere to do that. i'd guess that soon after you got robbed you'd be gambling. also, what you'd be doing may have nothing to do with what someone else might be doing. everybody doesn't run on the same logic as you.

I still don't buy her story (not yours). This is just how these scam artists work.

Is it true that AC is 80% black? If so, what are the implications on crime safety, if any, in particular, robbery of gamblers?

According to 2010 US census, Atlantic City:

26.7% White alone
38.3% Black
15.6% Asian
4.8% multi-race
30.4 have some Hispanic/Latino in them.

Here's a stat:

27.4% of homes are owner-occupied. Of the 20,013 homes in AC, 72.6% are rentals with median rent of $844.
36.9% of residents in poverty.
Only 15,633 households, which to me indicates that there are about 20%+ of home unoccupied.

Yikes.

Last place I would go. Gee, what if they caught the mugger?. Now you have to show up for trial. And of course his lawyer will get several postponements. You have to be there each and every time. No compensation for your time and trouble.Only after the lawyer decided you will keep on showing up, will he take a plea agreement, probably probation and the mugger will call you a Mf on the way out of court.

Can you back your figuring up with hard data?
Or is it a wild guess?

This is very true in Casinos. I know quite a few "hustlers" in AC that literally use the same schtick every time without fail.

There's a tanned Asian guy at Cesars who always claims he lost $2000 in the high roller area and he needs $10 to get home. When you say No, he says "Come on, I'll pay you back." Then I fire back, "If you could afford to lose $2000, you can afford to go to the ATM and get the money you need to go home!"

Another old Iranian guy would sit down and watch me play, start asking me questions about how much I lost and if he can bet $10 on top of my bets. Then when he loses his pitiful two chips after some back and forth, he says "You're very lucky, can I borrow $50 and I'll pay you back?" Then you tell them no and they say "C'mon, you've won so many hands since I sat down!" Like they're a lucky charm or something?

It's because of this that I started rat holing my chips and not leaving anything on the table. That and the fact the floor person will think you lost and add to your "losses" if they don't see the chips on the table.

I can only think of two occasions I was asked for money in AC. Once was at a BJ table with a guy I sort of knew from the tables and the bus ride down. He busted and asked if he could borrow $20. I wasn't having a good day and swore I said no, but the next time I saw him he repaid me $20 anyway.
Other time was on a Sic Bo table , $2 minimum and this old regular was down to his last dollar. He asked to borrow a dollar and I gave it to him. He went on a mini winning streak and had about $15 in front of him, when he handed me back my chip.
It's what you do and not what you say If you're not part of the future then get out of the way

All I can say is, "Wow!"

I won't say stuff like this never happens in Biloxi. Maybe it does, but in all my gaming visits to Biloxi I've never seen anything like the hustling being shared on these (and other AC-related) posts.

Does this crap happen in Michigan and other midwest casinos? How about in Oklahoma and casinos in the SW? Pacific NW? (OK, sure, it wouldn't surprise me if it happens a fair amount in Las Vegas.) Is AC distant from the American casino mainstream? C'mon, folks. Help me put this in perspective, OK?

I've seen it in Buffalo at the Seneca and Sands in Bethlehem PA as well. Not as bold as these guys, but still quite clever in the delivery. The Lady in Buffalo would feign having car trouble and then ask for money for a cab ride.
The girl in PA would show pictures of her "kids" and explain that she needs the money to feed them and pay for their education. She's also easy on the eyes, so I'm guessing she gets enough suckers to shell out the cash.

I offered to buy her a drink and she declined and then asked for a cigarette instead. I told her I don't smoke and she quickly started looking for another mark.
