It's going to be even more complicated. If Europe is any example.
A large portion are going to have trouble adopting to other cultures.
A large portion are going to be against, alcohol, gambling, and scantily clad women in public. All of which are norms and commonplace in AC.
Bring in a few thousand people who are adamantly against all of those things, it's going to be messy. We have already seen the types of confrontation in Europe when refugee communities have issues with local customs. And, in AC they are going to have a LOT more issues.
If Straub wants to house refugees there are a lot more ideal areas of the county to do it. However, this is probably nothing more than a publicity stunt on his part.

I'm of the opinion this is a Europe problem, we have our own issues.
With that said, why would you put at-risk refugees in a place where they very likely have little chance at upward mobility? They're going to congregate and radicalize, if they aren't already. Also, what happens when Straub wants to do something productive with Revel? Evict them to the streets of AC?
This will never happen.

I'll stay out of the general issue of accepting refugees but if we do take some I think putting them up at the Revel is not a bad idea. I just came from former East Germany where they house refugees in housing formerly used by the Soviet military. As far as I could tell, they stayed put there until a family member or somebody else could be found who would take them in.

So, what might be the result of re-populating Detroit with displaced refugees? Seems like a city looking for a population might mesh well with a population looking for a home....
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

They could be put up in closed army bases.
Closed schools.
Closed jails / prisons.
Just don't make ME have to pay their freight.

First off there are NO JOBS in Detroit.
Next the climate change might be a huge issue for these folks
Third they might see the greener grass on the other side of the river and make a swim for it...its doable but you will end up half a mile west of where you entered the water due to the current.... water is too cold this time of year to make it
Once they got to Detroit it would remind them of the war back home as the place looks like there has been a war going on since the late 60s...it could be consider cruel and unusual punishment sending them to DETROIT...which movie was it where they guy says to SEND HIM TO DETROIT....and the guy crys NO NOT DETROIT?

The blacks in Detroit are complaining about the whites moving back into the city. They won't want the Arabs either.

Some refugees would probably do quite well, following the time-worn path of preceding generations of immigrants: opening small shops in the 'hood and trading with the black folk.
Best they keep their fire insurance current.

Gotta give them some props, though.
As a kid growing up in NJ, we thought we were All That with our chalk night, doorbell night, toilet paper night, soap night, and on the 30th all four blended together into Mischief Night.
Then I heard about Detroit's Devil's Night, where the locals go on arson sprees.
*bow*

It seems Christie is doing everything that he can to oppose NJ taking any Syrian refugees.
It's not often that I will compliment Governor Christie, but he is spot on on this issue, and deserves applause, I am glad he is willing to take a hard stand even if it is unpopular from the apologist crowd.
