My wife was attending an event at Bally's AC
There were about 100 attendees.
Although I usually stay at a Marina property I booked a room at Bally'a
Oh boy what a mistake.
Let me tell you, The place has been allowed to fall into the shabby dump category
Upon entering from the parking lot the carpets are threadbare and noticeably dirty
The check in area was depressing, the VIP, yes I said VIP check in, looked old tired and 3rd rate.
The hallway decor was old, not in the charming old way, but in a dated uncared for old way. Walls were scratched and again carpets well worn down. An elevator phone was smashed and just left unrepaired.
Entering the room I was hit by a terrible stench, a call to a friend in another room revealed that room also smelled bad.
Walls had ugly peeling wallpaper. The beds were visibly lumpy with cheap tiny pillows
Speaking with other event attendees, I learned people were shocked at how bad the hotel was allowed to sink and fall into disrepair.
All this was happening while the financial "genius" former Harvard Professor Ceasars CEO Gary Loveman and the others skunks in the executive ranks, were lining their pockets with fat salieries and bonuses and bankrupting the company.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience at Bally's. I still visit and stay occasionally there.
My take on the rooms is they are just average. Nothing special but usually clean and free of smells.
The carpet that runs from the Wild West to Bally's through the Dennis lobby "check in area is well worn. Oddly the casino floor got new carpet and was remodeled about a year ago, I have no idea why these frequently used walkways weren't addressed at that time. Same with the steps leading from the boardwalk into the casino, well worn. For what it's worth, Bally's may very well be the next domino to fall in A.C. Perhaps that is why they are letting things slip.

What happened to the rule that casinos had to be a first class property or risk losing the gaming license ? Taj also falls in to that category.

All of AC falls into the same category.
Horrible rooms, and even worse customer service.

Taj is fine, it's aged but it's fine. Lots of unused tables is kind of an eye sore, but that's just a victim of the times. My opinion may or may not be clouded by the fact that they gave me a mini suite last time.

Say what you want about the customer service, but Borgata has pretty damn nice rooms.

Taj had been my home casino for the past 10 years and I loved it. The dealers, the rooms were clean and easily accessible to the casino, with maybe animal print overload , comps accrued pretty fast and most restaurants' were open 7 days a week.....then everything changed a few years ago.
I remember being at a table one trip with my girlfriends and saying how much I loved this place and would get giddy just anticipating a trip and counted down just like I do for Vegas.
Now, I have no desire to go to AC anymore. Nickel and diming you, tight slots (I don't think there as much tight as they don't get the play the way they used to, to pay out) poor customer service. The bean counters and suits changed AC and there was no loyalty to either employees or their patrons and it reflected in changes in customer service. The economy also played a part but gamblers will always find a little something, something to play with.
My last visit to Taj was fine other than it being empty and high limit empty tables but again it was a losing trip and left me loving and planning a Vegas trip more than ever.

On a related issue , walking through The Wild West Casino is tragic... All the craps tables are gone, there are a few unmanned BJ tables. The old Buffett access is walled offSome beer pong tables with a few drunks playing. I feel bad for all the loss of so many jobs. I bet CEO Loveman never seen gives the former workers a thought, I believe the retirees also lost their pensions.

They even put the mechanical out to pasture and the 6 to 5 blackjack party pit is open weekends only.

About the only reason anyone had for going there anymore was to play the Triple Play Bonus Poker progressive machines....until yesterday when they converted them to $25 per tier point. So now their most popular machines will go unplayed. It seems inevitable that the place will close after the summer.
