The Pleasantville exchange on the A.C. Expressway has seen a 17% drop in vehicles in Sept. vs last Sept.
Bus traffic is also down 17% while rail ridership has fallen 16%.

I thought that already happened years ago, well, soon after the neighboring states legalized gambling.

I'm too young to have been at a casino in 1978. But my neighbor tells a great story about how they went up the second weekend Resorts was open with another couple who had a "BJ System". They drove 3 hours from Baltimore to AC...stood in line 2 or 3 hours to get in the door......and you guessed it the guy only brought like $30 and busted out in 10 minutes...and they went straight home. Sounds like a great day.
Quote: vendman1I did notice that. Also that the point seems to have been established as 10. I was wondering how that was possible with no chips in play.

If you bought a buffet ticket you could go to the front of the line. Remember, the casino didn't open until 10am, maybe 8 on weekends.
Also, a few other struggling casinos would ask for similar deals.
1) The "Trump Ice" water bottles have been replaced by generic Geyser Mini-Water bottles
2) Random Gift giveaways, even TWO giveaways in one day, that were not sent in the Mailers. But were suddenly posted on the Trump One web site.
3) Dealers openly discussing they are starting work at another casino or in another State in anticipation of the closing while the Pit is standing behind them (not unexpected, but would think Management would not want them to discuss this openly with regular customers)
4) Free Slot and Match play being randomly added or subtracted on the Trump one Site (nothing new, they have done this in years past) but still odd that it appeared or disappeared in the last week on a few accounts that I have access to.
5) Buses to Taj are being cancelled on Saturdays(by a certain Bus company that shall remain nameless)
So take these items for what it's worth and hope to see some of you at the last days, whether it be this month or next!
They're getting [obscenity removed] just like the dealers are. So I don't think they really care about protecting the company.
Regardless of what he decides to do. They need to decide something soon as people will stay away in droves once the smell of death is on a place. This is all ready happening to a certain extent, I'm sure. I'd say the odds are 60% it closes.
Quote: vendman1I wonder if Carl Ichan is bluffing at all in this. He has all ready received some serious cost reductions from the Union. Lets assume any further tax breaks for the Taj are not forthcoming or minimal. Does anybody think he might go ahead and throw the 100M..he promised at the place and try to save it?

I put it even higher. They have lost most of their business due to the reports of closure and he just wants the player lists for Trop. Look how much he gained from AC Club closing.
"The objection calls the plan “patently unconfirmable,” in part because it proposes proceeding with the company’s exit from bankruptcy even if the company’s only remaining property, the Trump Taj Mahal, is closed. ...The plan, the creditors say, is a ploy to preserve hundreds of millions of dollars in tax credits for the benefit of Mr. Icahn."

Makes no difference, similar to TR cards, the Trump One card can be used at either property.
But you can't even log in to Trump One to see your offers at Taj and it's been 4 days now.
Not a good sign, for a place slated to close in 2 days!
I'll go ask at the desk today when I arrive tonight

I had the same problem for three or four days about 2 weeks ago. Other members said it worked for them. Then mine started working again....I didn't do anything. Weird. I've always been a Taj Mahal player never the Plaza..so that's not it. Budget cuts would be my guess.
Quote: vendman1Update on Taj Trump One Site: Just tried again. Not working for me as of 9:50am EST...second time this has happened recently. Says "we can not log you in at this time".
No can do for me, neither. @10:47am (New York time), Taj said:
"Sorry, we are unable to log you in. Please try again later. "
7 is Plaza
If it starts with an 8, then I guess it is a problem for everyone. If a 7, then maybe only Plaza problem

Mine starts with a 7. Plaza issued me that card years ago. Me thinks the problem's for all Taj and Plaza card holders. Showboat & Plaza were Titanic#1 &2, and Taj will be Titanic#3 soon at the bottom of the sea.

BTW, I beat you to the desk :-)
I waited on line, got up to the counter, and complained to a customer service rep. She said that many players had complained already. She asked the computer department days ago to fix the problem.
Update: The computer department does fix the problem today (11/17/2014). I'm looking for the notice of 12/12 closing... The Taj management has not yet posted the notice so far. Stay tune....

I knew. First the bridge, and now this. Christie knows " The Donald " will be running against him for the 2016 Republican nomination.
So people lose their jobs, all because of Christie's big fat ego.
They built the soul of Vegas , before cashing out to the big boys.
This left the AC door open to even worse human beings like Trump, Icahn & hedge fund managers who are just loan-sharks, & have no experience or motivation to run a successful business.
At least the Mafia had a self interest to keep the biz going & keep customers happy.
These guys came in & sucked everything they touched dry - leveraging out the value into their pockets & leaving lenders holding the bag , holding an empty shell of a property. Thousands unemployed, because the casinos were put in such debt, their capital wiped out via financial engineering.

The writing is on the wall. Per the report below, for the month of October, all AC casinos had done OK (i.e., winnings're up north) except for Taj (i.e., its winnings're down south). Taj's the only casino which dropped 17.4% in winnings.

to be fair, when you tell your customers you are going out of business, that could depress revenue?
wonder if /how closing Taj could possibly relate to this?
"VERA COKING LIVED NEXT TO TRUMP PLAZA, REBUFFED THE DONALD FOR DECADES
Icahn's IEH Investments paid $583,000 for Vera Coking's modest three-story boardinghouse at an auction in August."
The $583,000 sale price was well below the house’s nearly $5 million listing price in 2011. By the time the auction came up last August, the asking price had fallen to $995,000...
"Nate Chait, Coking’s Atlantic City real estate broker, speculated that Icahn could capitalize on any redevelopment plans for the area surrounding Trump Plaza. A governor’s advisory commission that is studying ways to revitalize Atlantic City has discussed the possibility of demolishing Trump Plaza to create room for an expansion of The Walk, the city’s popular shopping and entertainment district. Now concentrated at the foot of the Atlantic City Expressway, The Walk could be extended to the Boardwalk if Trump Plaza were no longer in the way.Chait said the demolition of the old Coking home, followed by the possible razing of Trump Plaza, appears to be the first step in carrying out those redevelopment plans.“From what I heard, it would be demolished and incorporated into the extension of The Walk,” he said. “They’ve talked about making it more of an entertainment area. I don’t think it’s going to be a casino again.”

“If the union would drop its appeal against the company, we could save the Taj and your jobs,” Robert F. Taj may soon use up all its 9-lives. Recently I dropped by Taj and felt depressed. The whole casino was not busy and lack of decent players. I never saw its baccarat pit closed down completely until that day. Its entrance (the stairway to its pit) was blocked off by a wall of 5 chairs. The business was so slow that the-almighty-Taj offerred $5 blackjack in the low roller pit! The $25 bj pit was almost closed except for a few tables open. Some supervisors saw the writing on the wall, already abandoned ship and got jobs in PA casinos.
I hope the Union gives in and thereby extends Taj's closing date further into 2015.
agree with this:
"Icahn may feel that shutting down the Taj...and remodeling/reopening as another brand may actually work better. He's probably right. So he's making all these crazy demands in an effort to make this happen. If he could break the union/get huge concessions from the city/state, he could then try to apply them to the Trop and or the Plaza. Then he takes complete control and does what he wants. I was there last weekend and you could practically see the tumbleweeds blowing through the place. Starting fresh is probably the only viable option at this point. They've chased away so many of their customers. "
partly based on what's already reality, & admittedly, partly my "conspiracy theory" based on what has already happened.
1.He & Loveman colluding to buy AC Club & reselling w/the deed restriction for non-gaming
2. gets a judge to break the Union @Taj
3.just bought a strategic parcel adjacent to the walk
The upcoming (Jan) CZR bankruptcy could easily result in Ceasars/Ballys AC ownership change and/or another closure.
What if Icahn already cut a deal to gain control of those properties ?
He would own practically the whole Boardwalk Monopoly board .
He could reboot AC on his terms, operating at a fraction of the previous operating costs with enough juice to dictate wages , taxes, govt regs.
He'd be the new Nucky Thompson.

I think he is too smart for that. Just not enough business to run that many properties. AC, nor he needs that many.
