I know a local casino (don't ask what one) where if you are plating Ulitmate Texas Hold'em and there is a winning trips wager on the board(and you placed a trips wager), they allow you to fold your hand, keep your trips wager and win on it. This seems like it would cause a large player advantage because you do NOT have to place a play wager to get paid on your trips if it is won on the board. I was wondering if this causes an advantage and if so in what way and by how much? I added the payout table and the maximum wager. Is anything else is needed please advise. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hand Trips Payout
Royal Flush 50:1
Straight Flush 40:1
4 of a Kind 30:1
Full House 8:1
Flush 7:1
Straight 4:1
3 of a Kind 3:1

Maximum trips wager is $50.
One Deck (obviously).

Thanks again.

The trips bet always pays regardless of whether the player folds.

So if the player was forced to place a play wager to get paid on trips it would have a huge house edge instead of the 1.75-2% it has...? It seemed wrong that the player gets get paid without playing the hand because you can't just place a trips wager and get dealt cards BUT if that's the way its ment to be played than nothing more to add and thank you!!!

Just ask before you play.

Its a new casino, in an area that has never had one. There have been errors there before that resulted in a player advantage. Thank you tho! =)

Not everywhere. We've discussed this before. Some casinos force you to make a play bet in order to be paid on the trips bet. If you fold, you lose the trips bet even though you have a winner. Motorcity in Detroit is one of them.

Although true, this is not the way the trips bet is intended to be played. Roger should yell at them...haha

I dunno if I would say it would make the house edge "huge" as a result, but it definitely would hurt the player if he is forced to make the play bet when trips are on board.

Page 6 of the official rules states:

NOTE: If the player has a 3 of a Kind or better, the trips bet always wins – even if the player folds.

I found this language on several state official rules on a simple Google search and on officially released SHFL game rules. It seems if your casino is not paying you on the bet they are cheating.

None of those are Michigan though.

That hardly seems relevant. The game rules are clear. If they are calling it Ultimate Texas Hold'em then the rules are universal. One expects a casino offering a branded game to adhere to the official rules. Do they clearly disclose on the table that if you fold you automatically lose the trips bet? That would be the only way I would think they could get away with this even though it still seems shady to me.

I think its a variant like a BJ payout. some places are 3:2 some 6:5.

Blackjack is not a trademarked game with set rules. I don't suppose a house could say that in 3CP you have to win hand for Pair Plus to pay, but if they want to have triple zero roulette there is nothing to stop them.

I guess if SHFL does not care then it does not matter. As a player, I would expect a branded game to have uniform rules at every install.

In the casino I am thinking off - YES. They do state it in the rules (albeit you have to find it on the help screens), and as the bet is over 99% it's worth playing. (Also there are only a few rare hands when you would be forced to make a bet you didn't want to, and the first time I saw it, it happened to someone else: they actually won the base bet after they had folded [electronically], the dealer/inspector explained the rules and they were allowed to reinstate their hand, raise and stay in the game.)
