The El Cortez has gambling gourmet in case you don't want to leave your machine. They bring your food on a tray. I understand that Nextep (screen shown) is trying to introduce kiosks where you can use your credit card, choose a food item, and it will remember your favorites.
Could we be at the point where coffee shops, buffets, and steakhouses are unnecessary for some casinos? Since you have a screen in front of you, just order your food and someone will deliver.

Theoretically maybe, but I think mosts people actually want to take a break from play to eat. I know I would, though I am more a table-game player. And btw, I do not even like eating in the poker room.
From the context, I get the feeling you are saying you do not like to see anybody eating while playing poker.Quote: AZDuffmanAnd btw, I do not even like eating in the poker room.
So you'd actually prefer to have empty seats at your poker table?

Not how I meant it, but I do not care for eating at the poker table now that you mention it. Yes, I'd rather people take a 30-60 minute break and eat. Empty seats will get filled.
For that matter, I really don't care for mixing meals with most activities, such as having lunch at one's desk. I just hate the smells and all the noise of eating, unless I am actually at a table and also eating.
Snacks at a home-game would be a different matter.
Bad wording on my part.Quote: AZDuffman... Empty seats will get filled.
I meant absent players, not empty seats.

Oh, OK. No harm done. Absent players are a hassle in cash games, but in tourneys they can leave and eat all they want so long as their blinds get posted.
Downside: Limited selections: Only standard cocktails and only standard food trays.
Remember that movie where someone stopped at a convenience store to get "some food and drink' ... and then there was a quick cut to a freezer filled with cans labeled "Food" and "Drink". If we go to only things you can order on your iphone then that is what we will have and that is all we will have.
Quote: FleaStiffYou can order drinks from slot machines... the casino gains by waitresses making only Drink Delivery trips rather than also Order Taking Trips. Why not order a food tray as well.

As another poster suggested, I wouldn't want to eat food after playing a slot machine without washing my hands first. Holding a drink in a glass is one thing, but grabbing a burger or fries directly is entirely another. If you haven't seen pictures of how dirty slot players' hands can be, let me refresh your memory:
(from a Las Vegas Sun story run last year)

You could carry around a small container of alcohol gel. It's a handy thing to have on trips anyway.

I have used that stuff a bunch, but I need some clarification that maybe someone here can provide. I understand that the alcohol might sanitize my hands, but as for washing them, where does the dirt go? Yes, it may be dissolved, but I doubt that it is vaporized; without something to wipe it off with, I tend to think that the dirt is perhaps just spread very uniformly around on my hands, with maybe some bacteria being killed. I just don't feel "clean". Can anyone tell me how this stuff really works to wash your hands?

I always carry hand sanitizer in the casino. The next time you go to a buffet, notice the amount of people that put food in their mouths while going through the lines, lick their fingers and then touch the serving utensils that you have to use. Ick!

Nowhere. It stays right on your hands.
What alcohol does is kill bacteria and viruses.
So, no, it doesn't wash your hands, it sanitizes them. Not the same thing.
Quote: gofaster87Every time I wash my hands after a vp session water going into the sink is brownish. Sanitizer doesn't do any cleaning. The machines are just nasty.
It's like this: dirt is mostly harmless.
Household dirt and dust is made up mostly of dead human skin cells (I know, that surprised me too), plus detritus from the wear and tear of whatever's in your house. Street dirt is more complex. Walk any city street any lenght of time and then wash your hands. You'll likely see gray or brown in the soapy water. A large public place like a casino probably has a mix of both kinds.
Anyway, dirt is mostly innert. It may contain assorted poisons, but in amounts too small to worry about (with exceptions of course at sites fo major chemical spills, voclanic eruptions, radioactive accidents and such).
The reason to wash your hands isn't dirt, but the free-floating bacteria and viruses that stick to your hands when you touch any surface. Biologically speaking, the dirtiest parts of the human body are the hands (and yet we shake hands without a second thought). Soap and water kill such things, and so does hand sanitizers like alcohol gel (there are other kinds, but most contain alcohol).
So if you want to eat at the slots or VP machines and your hands are not visibly dirty, a hand sanitizer ought to provide enough protection.
