The University of Connecticut men's basketball arrived in Las Vegas this weekend for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds of the NCAA March Madness tournament.

They checked into the Luxor hotel. They found their rooms were unacceptable: reportedly full of dirt, vomit and "other bodily fluids." The NCAA changed their hotel to a "high-class" hotel.

Apparently today after practice, the UConn team discovered that their team bus had been burglarized.

One of many articles

Not a pretty picture of Vegas for the nationwide audience following the tournament.

Thanks — I saw an article about their hotel room but it didn't mention which hotel.

Is Luxor trying to get itself demolished, as rumored?

5 or 6 years ago a couple of my friends stayed at Luxor and they hated it! Can't remember the exact complaints but a dirty room was one. The price was right but boy they hated it.

I would rate Luxor 2.5 stars out of 5. I was there on opening night laying on the floor wiring up slot machines when they opened the doors about 90 minutes ahead of schedule. I was nearly trampled to death.

I stayed at Luxor with my family about 20 years ago, it was okay. But apparently it has gone downhill, so your opening day experiences (while interesting) may not really be relevant to the quality of LUXOR 2023.

Also, it is reputedly built over an aquifer and the rumors are:
a) Luxor is sinking year by year
b) Pumps have to run 24/7 to pump water out of the lowest levels of the structure.

If you read "Super Casino" you will see why. There was some competitor opening at about the same time and there was a sort of race to open first. Luxor management got played there. Really, six months after opening nobody would remember who was first. But they did not get that.

I can see it being past its time if it ever really had a time. Those "themes" did not last all that long, maybe 15 years tops. The "attracting families" thing has to be filed under "what on earth were they thinking?!" I was only inside Luxor once but do not remember liking it. I do not like the oversize and wide-open casinos, preferring smaller places.

The article mentioned a sports stadium. WHY?!

And yet the heavily themed Caesars Palace resort keeps chugging along year after year, decade after decade, still entirely relevant. Sometimes I wonder about that.
Have you tried 22 tonight? I said 22.

I have stayed at Luxor two or three times in the last 10 years, I still rate it 2.5. When it opened it was probably considered a 4 star.
