Hey Folks,

What player aids are allowed in the casino?

I always bring laminated copies of the basic strategy for blackjack (stand on 17 for 4+ decks, and hit on soft 17 for 4+ decks) when I play. The Bellagio is happy to let me put the chart out on the table and keep it there at the $10 CSMs. Wynn tells me I can have it out, but they don't want me putting it on the table.

I also carry the Wizard's simple strategy for Jacks or Better when I play video poker. I've got that one mostly memorized, but 3 and 4 to a Royal always trips me up.

I know I should memorize the basic strategy for blackjack and the full strategy for Jacks or Better, but I'm a lazy recreational gambler. 8-)

What are the rules for player aids? Obviously you can't bring your laptop or run your smart phone at the blackjack table for fear of counting, but I hear others saying they use their smart phone to look up video poker strategies.

Just curious as to what's allowed vs. what is not.

No pencils at the BJ tables.

I had to ask at a UTH table whether I could use a strategy. The supervisor misunderstood and went looking for one for me, only to discover they didn't have one. When they came back, they let me use my paper aid.

Phones at machines have not been a problem (yet?)

They don't want an object on the table because it could be used as a mirror or concealing a mirror. They all sell those tiny little cards in the casino, most of the FP walk around with one at their belts, ain't no big deal if you hold it in your hand and consult it, but don't put it on or near the table surface. Same with lady's purses, etc.

Most dealers and floor people will be happy with just about anything as long as you are not furtive about it and its not on the table surface.

And even that's dependent on the casino you're at... I had my Spanish 21 table at a casino (I think in Council Bluffs) and the supervisor told me that I could put it on the table, almost like it was silly that I was concealing it in my hand. I was always under the belief you could have one, but not on the table surface...
