Quote: MentalYou are mostly correct. In some jurisdictions, the turnip squeeze is illegal. Then, the game designer's only recourse is to ask for turnips on the side. Thus, it is clearly a side game. I'm correct, and you're wrong. And I don't care much for turnips in the first place!
Hold on there, the turnips squeeze could be considered either a side game or minigame depending on the circumstances.
Quote: USpapergamesIf you think I'm just making this up on the fly then you might as well call me God because a lot of people took the time to classify games and just because you know nothing about it doesn't mean what I'm saying isn't true!!!
One day we will be able to free ourselves from the main game and exist solely in the side game. Until that day comes we must keep the faith, brother.

Which means no AP is choosing a slot machine because it pays more for matching 3 bells (or whatever symbol) than another don't machine lol. Unless that machine was set to the wrong payouts.

Something like ultimate x video poker is close to that case. Or slots where the payout increases for consecutive wins. But I don't think those slots exist anymore.

YES!!!! You're getting it!!!!! Now video poker is a game which is AP plausible, but no slot game is AP plausible and never will be unless there is some kind of mistake.
P.S. The reason why video poker can be AP plausible but not a slot game is because there are choices involved that affect the game play! The choice weather to play affects the side or minigames but not the slot game because the slot reels odds always remain constraint (unless they are being affected by a side or minigame)! Meaning no choices can ever effect the payout of a slot game.

Nobody should constrain the slot reels. They should be free, like the rest of us, since that's what our founding fathers would want.

Have you ever looked into skill slots? Most modern ones are normal during the base game but let the player impact the bonus. Some may require skill during the base game, I'm not sure.
When North Carolina first allowed slots, they had to be games of skill. There, the most common format turned the slots into something like draw poker - spin, then choose to hold 0, 1, 2, or 3 reels and spin again.
Quote: USpapergamesIf anyone walked away a big winner today it's me, I learned the casino industries leading experts don't know that much about game design 😆
Yes you are a big winner, but that was surely the side game that you won.

Yes, I know all about the skilled-based slot games! 1st the skilled-based side is totally a side game but also I don't know of any that have a AP plausible side game.
Quote: MentalYes you are a big winner, but that was surely the side game that you won.
🤣
It's funny because I don't feel like a winner. You might be correct because maybe it was just the side game and the main game was winning you guys over which maybe I'm the loser at :(

Cherokee still had some of these as of a few years ago -- specifically, Lock and Roll.

This is an excellent find! But I argue that this is not a slot game but rather it disguises itself as one. I have to give you an A for effort because at least it doesn't have any side or minigames ;)
You wanna know what I think the answer is? There are no amazing casino game designers & never have been. I think maybe I could be the 1st.
P.S. I know there are some good casino game designers in the industry, but are they amazing?
Quote: USpapergamesI want to leave you guys with one thought, why are there no famous casino game designers? Every game industry has several famous game designers where people go to buy and play the games just because of the game designer. And don't say the companies taking all the credit because even triple AAA titles like splinter cell advertise the heck out of Tom Clancy's name so why not have the companies advertise the heck out of the lead game designers?
You wanna know what I think the answer is? There are no amazing casino game designers & never have been. I think maybe I could be the 1st.

Tom Clancy is an author, not a game designer.

Oops, 👍
Let's just change that to Sid Meier instead 🌀
This is exactly what in talking about. Everyone just wants to focus on side or minigames instead of redesign the slots main game. It's not just IGT it's the entire worlds mentality :(
Quote: USpapergamesOops, 👍

That's a great one. But it's still a little odd. Sid Meier's Pirates was Sid Meier's Pirates before anyone knew who he was. He literally put his name in the name of the game. I guess that's good self promotion?
Quote: rdw4potusThere is a lot of synergy between casino games and other games. And that's why I think a lot of the same people go to GDC and G2E. Slots based on regular games are popular. Clue, life, monopoly, yahtzee, battleship, etc. And casino and regular games are often based on books, movies, TV shows. a splinter cell slot might be fun. Or Jack Ryan. Jurassic Park has fun games. The Alfred Hitchcock slot was interesting, so was little shop of horror. I guess little shop has had several slots.
I could not agree more & was seriously wrong about my assumption that nobody in the casino industry paid attention to other gaming industries. Again this is very valuable information and it's not like I could spot many faces in the casino industry anyway, so my opinion is completely trumped by yours & I do believe you.

People that play slots for fun play for the side games. The main game is just spinning symbols. It doesn't matter how they work - those people won't understand the differences anyway. It's just a means to get to the side game.

Oh come now, he was putting his name on his games because people were buying more of them when they say his name. And he started with Alpha Centauri before pirates. But look at his games before Alpha Centauri! Games like Civilization don't even have his name on the box & it was 8 years prior!!!
Let me ask you something, you think if you put your name on one of your games, would it start making more money? If the answer is no then don't do it, it's good advice ;)

The original version of pirates actually came out in the '80s. He was pretty much a nobody then & still put his name in the title.

I feel you are 100% correct. I have a sad feeling that Royal Slots could end up getting some side games :( Seems to be what people care about the most, even tho no side game is needed to win big money. Regardless the main slot game should be my program because of all the benefits to the player and the operator, even if the average player can't comprehend the difference.

I think it could be fun. The mechanism and not the symbols is what matters for royal slots. So what could the symbols be? And what side game could work with those symbols? Make them animals. Or people. Or sports items.

Ya, his knowledge knows no bounds. Seriously is impressive, nobody corrects me as much as you do lol. Made respect.

Do not do sports items as almost every sport themed slot has failed miserably.

Pretty much. Child of the 80s/90s. So I kind of grew up with that industry. It sure was fun to see how fast things improved.

Yes, you are spot on sir! I should say I'm also seriously impressed with how fast you are at applying new knowledge that you just learned!!! Not even thought long ago you were struggling in this conversation and now look at you!!!
So no idea about any side games yet but I was thinking of using fairytales as the games theme. I have come up with some fairytales which are widely known though out the world and are all copyright free. I'd love your opinion.

Well I'm a year older than you but I didn't have a computer till I was in my teens so :/

LOL. Now I'm trying to even remember any. That turkey bowling thing had a lot of placements 15 years ago. And horseracing can do OK. What's the lightning link horseracing skin? Best bet?

Yeah, same here. Actually had the nes first. Then the pc later. I think my mom finally got sick of me doing homework on her typewriter.

How would you convey the fairytale? Could always go with generic fantasy - gnomes, unicorns, etc. Or Greek gods. Then the side games are like Zeus zapping to upgrade symbols, poseidon flooding the screen with wilds, etc.

Check it out, this is what I had in mind. Got to make the game theme accessible to all ages, especially the elderly. I was thinking of using the actually book art since none of it is copyrighted & then animate the book art which many people have seen :)

Nice, I was 18 when I owned my 1st computer. But I think I drove my family crazy for using the only computer we had in the house all the time :/

I did play WII bowling with my daughter about 15 years ago. I don't think I have played any video game since then.

I have never published any games except slots. I used to write all of the classics when I was young. Pacman, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Centipede, Mostly written on my Apple ][.

That's still very impressive. Sometimes it can be difficult to publish your game for reasons outside of your control. One of the 1st games I created I went to conventions selling hundreds of copy and made probably a little better than minimum wage at the time when you factor the man hours & expenses. But the kick in the teeth was mainstream publishing. My game needed to get a licenses agreement for some publishing company to take over and get the game in stores. I never thought that would be an issue since the game was starting to develop a fan base, but at the end of the day I failed to land a publishing deal solely because of manufacturing costs :( Was a difficult lesson for me to learn.

2) That's an oddly large subject area to claim to be an expert in the field. 🤔
