I was playing Soc Bo at the sands Bethlehem the other night I couldn't figure where the house advantage your website shows on the any number bet comes from.

If I placed $20 on 6 then I have 3 1/6 chances of hitting a 1:1 payout, plus the payouts out on 2 or 3 numbers (at the sands it is 2:1, 3:1 I believe). 3 dice is 3 chances to roll that 6 so wouldn't I then have 1/6 (0.16666) times 3 odds, or 50/50 of winning?

I'd appreciate any thoughts on where the house edge comes in?

The probability of rolling at least one six with three dice is 1-(5/6)^3 = 42.13%.

The math makes sense, thank you. Would you mind explaining why it isn't 1/6*3? If I were betting on a single die id theoretically win 6x my money so with 3 chances isn't it 2x my money?

There are 216 different ways to roll three different dice.
Of these, 1 has a particular number on all three of them, 15 have a particular number on two of them, 75 have a particular number on one of them, and 125 have a particular number on none of them.

The expected value = (1/216 x 3) + (15/216 x 2) + (75/216 x 1) + (125/216 x (-1)) = (105 - 125) / 216 = -20/216 = -9.26%

Note that in Australia (at least on machines), the payoff for 3 of a kind is much higher. I assume the payoff in the USA is 3-1 because that is the payoff on the same bet in Chuck-A-Luck.

Do you guys know of any Sic Bo games in Las Vegas? I will be there this coming March and was hoping to find a game. I know it used to be at NYNY. But, when I was there last March, they said that they didn't have it anymore. I was just wondering if anyone had seen it in Vegas recently.

there is a very simple way to look at this.

if all 3 numbers are different, the house takes 3 spots and pays 3 spots
if there is a double, the house takes 4 spots and pays 3
if its a triple the house takes 5 spots and pays 3.

thats the edge
