Let's start a new thread where members can ask questions to other members to learn about them.

Triglomange, have you worked in the casino industry? Are you a gambler, if so what do you play. What part of the country do you reside and make your living? Please tell us a little about you.

No, I do not work in the casino industry, but I have been toying with the idea which will become more clear later.

Am I a gambler? That's a really good question to ask me.

I am an odd person and I do like to gamble, but I am a total money nit at the same time. If the game is not close to break even, I will be a tightass and gamble in a manner that loses me < $10/hour on average. For example, I will play nickel Super Times Pay (STP) for nickels on one line with most paytables. If a game returns 99%+, then I'll bump it up to quarters...lol Mostly in a casino I will play video poker, or live poker. For video poker, I really love STP and Double STP. Before I found these machines, I didn't play too much video poker since 2005...whoops. I often play 9/6 JoB STP when I visit my g/f's parents in the Chicago suburbs.

But when a game gets closer to 100% or profitable, I get more involved. I was a Supernova on PokerStars until Black Friday, but I mainly focused on a stupid niche game instead of NLHE because I suck/NLHE doesn't interest me enough. Instead I played hundreds of thousands of hands lifetime of 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (and to a lesser extent Badugi) online. I was a small winner, but nothing to talk about. I am hoping to play those two draw games live (among others) in a couple weeks for low stakes when I go back to Vegas.

I live in St. Louis right now and currently don't have a job. I have a PhD in chemical engineering and my research background in computational material science, but my last position/projects didn't go so well. :( Since then to occupy my time, I have toyed around with various gaming math tasks: from answering questions here to attempting to deconstruct slot machines like the Wizard did (play money games on my computer; I don't have good enough cell phone video to tape in a casino...lol). It helps pass the time and keeps various math skills fresh at least. At times I have debated about finding a position in the gaming industry, doing casino math/slot machine design. I still like the idea of making 6 digits in my field of study though... :-\

Tringlomane, thank you for telling us a little about yourself. I hope others are interested in other members here and participate in similiar questions and answers.

Great thread!

I'll probably ask some questions if you don't post more questions for someone in the near future. You've probably thought of this, DRich, but for the purposes of expedition of the process, I would suggest PMing the Member to whom you are asking questions to make sure they intend to answer.

Eventually, I want to ask 7Craps, KewlJ and IBeatYourAces some questions, unless you beat me to those guys.

Edge of Suburbs. I am 40 miles west of downtown (Wentzville). Ameristar and Hollywood are the closest at ~30 minutes each. Lumiere, River City, Casino Queen take about ~50 minutes. So actually, I don't go to the local casinos that often. Enjoy making trips more. :) I need to get back out to River City to use some comps though as I haven't been there in almost 6 months...yikes.

No, I didn't even think about PM'ing someone to ask if they would be interested. Maybe I should have done that, but my assumption was that Triglomane (or whomever) would just say that they didn't want to participate or would just ignore the question.

Mission146, please ask others, I think it would be interesting if others wouldn't mind telling a little bit about themselves.

Your assumption was basically correct with respect to me. But it's still probably better to PM for interest in advance because then if they don't want to, then you don't end up having a dead thread floating around. :)

And also depending on where I am when the thread gets posted, it's possible that I would miss it. I often look at the recent thread list, and I have been known to miss posts for a couple of days...whoops. I like the idea generally though for those willing to share.

Id say Ameristar is my favorite. After the blues, I miss Ameristar the most in st. Louis.

Yeah Ameristar is a very nice place. To be honest, I feel that most of the St. Louis casinos are quite nice compared to some other places I have been to. I like that there is no longer a St. Louis casino that has a "riverboat feel" to it. I have never really liked that because they usually feel so cramped. And Blues got home ice for the 1st round! :)

This is an interesting idea for a thread but having observed some threads from some other sites I can expect that there are some individuals that would prefer to maintain as much anonymity as possible....

That would be me. I've said too much already. I'm not on Facebook or any other social site and am only a member of this and one other site that I hardly participate on.

I've been in Vegas during one of the meet ups and may be again but you'll never see me. It's nothing personal.

I totally agree... Why would anyone over expose them self for the sake of a post??.... I am only an amateur... So maybe I am missing something... Other wise thus would be a great idea for a thread...

Yeah, I ignore that place...lol I haven't been there since dating my ex (roughly 2005). She grew up about 15 minutes from the place. Another annoying thing about her, she has maybe played 1000 hands of video poker lifetime, and she has hit a quarter Royal (at Harrah's/Hollywood STL) while I still haven't. But she did ask for my advice on the hand before hitting it though, 3 to a Royal or 4 to a flush? Alton is about an hour where I currently reside, I think, probably the furthest away of all St. Louis metro casinos.

I don't mind answering gambling related questions or helping others with subjects I have some knowledge of. I have no plans on revealing any personal infornation.

I have no plans on asking any personal questions, your interview would be related more strictly to your AP endeavors, but nothing specific in terms of what casinos you hit or who has weak dealers or anything like that.

You could make the case, but I find the venue of this thread appropriate.

I'd like to nominate this thread for "derail of the year". With some of the responses in this thread, I am a little surprised the attendance list for WoV Con is as large as it is. Unfortunately, that weekend really priced me out. :( Hopefully, I will be able to attend sometime in the future. Instead, I'll be around in Vegas May 9th-13th with my g/f; if anyone from the forum would like to say hello, please PM me, and we'll try to arrange something. I will almost certainly be at the TI Poker Room Sunday May 12th, starting at 7pm playing in their $3/$6 Mix game ($100 minimum buyin; calling ahead for a seat is suggested). Anyone interested in not playing that boring Hold 'em game for once is also welcome to join me. Or if you're just around the area, stopping by and saying hello.

Yes, LA isn't red hot this time. If I can't make a bet on the Blues while in Vegas, it better be because they swept them...lol

I gotta go now though because I bought ~cheap Cardinals tickets tonight! :D

were you a 2+2er before this forum, or after? I find this forum has more information regarding AP then 2+2 which is straight up poker. BBV carrys over way too much into the other 2+2 forums :(

Before. I've been an active 2+2'er since June 2011. And I lurked on 2+2 well before Black Friday. For 2+2, there is very little info on games outside of poker for sure. And I rarely read BBV, or NVG, or even the main NLHE forum. Takes too much time. I'm mostly reading/posting in Probability, Brick & Mortar, Other Gambling Games, or Draw/Other Poker. Not a lot else.

tringlomane, thanks for being a good sport!

"Computational material science" - would that be work in designing products created in a wafer fab (materials that perform computations)? Whatever it is, it sounds interesting... (This coming from an IE...!)

Nope, I meant using computers to help solve problems in material science through theoretical calculations and/or atomic/molecular simulations. I have used the phrase "computational material science" a lot to quickly summarize my field of study to others. I think this is the first time someone interpreted how you did, but that interpretation definitely makes sense now that you wrote that. But trust me, I really suck in a lab. :(
