I don�t know why I suggested for words to make it harder to solve since I ended up missing a few completely now.

Strategy question:

If you get one letter that is common to a lot of words in the fourth or fifth position on the first word guess, (so basically giving you next to no help), are the odds better to try all 5 new unused letters or try words using that letter you just got right. So far, if I get only one letter that doesn�t narrow it down, I go for the option of 5 all new letters. Right or wrong?

There's no secret. Just know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

A lot of people use probing words.I myself try to go for the solve based on the clues wordle gave me. Sometimes it does take forever though trying to find a word with that letter in that particular position. Probing words can take up a few turns. I try and go for the quick solve,but it is up to you.

If the one letter you got correct is GREEN, then you almost always choose a word with five new letters. You do not choose a word with that one green letter still in the same position.

I base this upon all of the hundreds of puzzles I've watched WordleBot solve, and all of the hundreds of puzzles I've watched SmartyBot (my own bot) solve.

The reason is, you are almost never going after a solution in two rows. That's not really your goal. And so yes, in this case a probing word as I prefer to call them (some people like the term "burner word") is the better play... a word that will get you information on five new letters rather than just four new letters.

That being said, if the one letter you received positive information on is YELLOW, then yes, it's often best to pick a word with that letter in a new position, to help narrow down which column that letter might be in.

The "best strategy" of course, is beyond the capability of most humans. The best strategy is to always find a guess that breaks down the remaining possibles into as few "groups" as possible.

If you give me a few specific examples (what's the starter word and what's the exact feedback received from that starter word), I can ask my bot what it believes is the very best next guess.

Sometimes I think I made up a form of a word that doesn�t exist, but then wordie accepts it. Yes �lardy� is usable.

After STARE, I figured the R was either the third or fifth letter, since SR___ looked impossible.

SCRIP turned out to be a lucky guess, since it fixed the R and fortuitously gave me the P as well.

With S_R_P, STROP, STRAP, STRIP, and SCRAP were all out, so SYRUP was the only word I could find.
