Oh Boy!!!!!Quote: NathanIs pooling the same thing as sharing? I assumed that pool meant to share. ;)
I see the smiley, but can't help the need to answer as though Nathan doesn't grasp the rules....
Steal or share are the decisions (bids) we make within the game. just imagine the game with 2 players.
player 1 bids share and player 2 bids share : both players get half the prize
player 1 bids share and player 2 bids steal : Player 1 gets nothing. Player 2 gets all the prize.
player 1 bids steal and player 2 bids steal : The Wizard doesn't award any prize.
Then for the other way we define 'share':- Players, collectively, want to guarantee they take as much money from wizard as they can: They want to avoid option 3 at all costs. So they form a pact: We'll work together to screw the wizard over to the max. OK. We'll collude in our bidding, and after the game, we will pool or 'share' all the winnings, because our collusion will mean we inevitable end up with different amounts.
Wizard has messed with our heads in saying that he will add £20 to the prize if all teams bid 'share'.
OnceDear has messed with our heads in saying that he will add $60 to the prize if teams bid in a certain way.
Did that clarify?
Most players in our game are in agreement to collude, because we know it's the best way to win to the max. But it does require honor among theives.
Wizard is happy about us cooperating against him. He enjoys the human interaction.
Now, Nathan. As a team captain, you have great responsibility. You may gather the votes and opinions from your team, or you can collude with other captains to screw money out of ME. Or you can defy everybody and go your own way, just like your US electoral college system. With great power comes great responsibility.
My pool has a Jacuzzi and massage jets.Quote: onenickelmiracleThere is more than one pool. The elites pool keeps the money, just using the rest as pawns.
Quote: GWAEI am not committing to pooling. I am 99.54% sure I will but I am leaving the .46% out there in case some crazy twist leaves me with $500. In that case I am not pooling.
Why would that matter. It is a free roll
Seconded ;o)Quote: troopscottso strategy wise we need 4 steals this week and three shares. I say teams 1-2-3 vote share and teams 4-5-6-7 vote steal?

But to be fair, I never asked to be a Team Captain. I didn't even know I was a Team Captain until someone mentioned it in passing. :/

Assuming the stakes remain low, I'm almost hoping someone does not honor their word. Most of us almost have enough to play one hand of quarter video poker.
Knowing who the a-holes are is worth more than the current stakes.
Right now, I like the share votes who collaborated in good faith and as a result are holding less. Notably, that's not me.
Anyway, If somehow someone manages to rack up hundreds in wins, I'd probably think about that a little differently since lying is allowed per the rules.
Quote: RomesSo a good idea, but not a feasible one in my opinion... but I like where your head's at, and keep thinking ;-).
I'm happy to contribute bad ideas all day.
Quote: AxelWolfEither you are in for pooling 100% or you are out. You can't decide after the fact.
Lying is allowed. Someone could just say they are pooling and rescind once the game is over.
I’m not doing that BTW.

I think someone said saying you will pool your winnings and then after the game is over, you say,"I was lying the whole time about pooling my winnings. I'm getting $100!" Is cause for a nuclear ban.
No such thing as welching or being an asshole, lying is allowed. The people trying to make things appear to be kumbya are up to something. They're not hippies.Quote: NathanI think someone said saying you will pool your winnings and then after the game is over, you say,"I was lying the whole time about pooling my winnings. Quote: OnceDearOK. For clarity. Lying is permitted, but my offer is genuine and I invite Mike or other mods to ban me if I renege on it. Mike had no part in shaping my 'wrench' I offered it off my own back without asking Mike and he sure never colluded with me. I told him about it after the event, and have not told him about my latest increase to the offer. No offer / bribe or incentive to me from anyone. It is, what it is.
If you guys can collude successfully against me and if my team plus exactly 3 other teams vote steal and 3 teams vote share, then I WILL paypal the funds to Mike for him to distribute to my team members. What happens to it after that is up to them.
Dammit. Only 7 team members need to collude. When are votes due?
OD.
If you guys don't screw me over on this, I'll be massively disappointed but not in the least surprised. Editing my offer will void it, if that's what any mod is thinking. $:o)
I am vouching for OD 100%. I have won money from him twice, and twice he has paid me immediately.
It doesn't matter that you can lie in this game. He has made it a matter of personal honor, and he is a person of integrity and good intent. I know that not just from Clue, but other interactions. He just enjoys games, and throwing a twist into this one.
If we are able to vote his team steal, and 3-3 steal/share otherwise, he WILL put the $60 in the pot.
ALL of his team is pooling. So all $60 will go to the entire pool group at the end.
And with that glowing character reference, $60 of my wealth takes flight. Couldn't you have just called me unreliable and not to be trusted?Quote: beachbumbabsI am vouching for OD 100%. I have won money from him twice, and twice he has paid me immediately.

Great town. Fair haven too. I’d be happy as a clam to live in either...except maybe December to February.

What if THAT is a lie? How are we supposed to know if you're telling the truth about whether or not you can lie? Hmm...the rabbit hole goes deep with this conspiracy.
I will do a pinky swear. You can take those to the bank.

I am wondering whether it is really Wizard's money being offered up through one of his moderators. Wizard is a really smart guy and I would expect him to be a very clever "dungeon-master."
We talkin D&D or bedroom stuff? I guess either way I'd probably agree...Quote: gordonm888...Wizard is a really smart guy and I would expect him to be a very clever "dungeon-master."

No need to get all defensive. We have known all along. It is 👌

LMAO. You don't quite have the measure of me, yet. Maybe I bent the truth.Quote: gordonm888OD posted earlier that he was unemployed and financially struggling.
'Unemployed'. lol. technically, yes. I quit working a couple of years ago after doing 42 years continuous full time employment.
Now I just have my moderator salary, which is nil, because I'm crap at it.
'Financially struggling.' LOL. Yes. technically. But not how you might think.
Wizard is a smart guy. That's true, but he's straight as a pin. If he was going to be devious, he'd tell us he was going to be devious. Just like he told us the rules will vary from round to round.
In an earlier post, WIzard was accused of offering an increased prize in bad faith. Even BBB suspected him of mischief. We just couldn't believe he had made a mistake. He had and if I know Mike, he was mortified.

Okay, I'm just trying to think this through. Wizard is a clever thoughtful game player (and takes pride in it) and doubling the stakes on Round 4 is not exactly the masterstroke of game design that I might have expected. I'm just wondering whether he has done something more subtle.
I'm sure some of the forum's horned goats will find sexual innuendo in the word "masterstroke."
Oh, its exactly how I think.Quote: OnceDear

Indeed. I used to be into flagellation, necrophillia and bestiality . But then I realised I was flogging a dead horse.Quote: AxelWolfOh, its exactly how I think.

And JD just went up by £7 a bottle. I might have to economise somewhere.... Or maybe I should start selling my lotto picks or even buy some tickets myself.

Thank you for the kind words. I was pretty clear to give myself a long leash at the beginning of this to make rule changes as I go. However, I will abide by my own rules as best I can.
In other news, I was trying to catch up with this at the SEA airport today and noticed somebody quit. Can someone remind me who it is. I see that Mission is back after a long hiatus. Perhaps he would like to fill in this vacant spot.

Thank you for the invite, especially considering how long I have been absent.
I'll have to read this entire thread to see what's going on, but as long as I don't have to make any actual gameplay decisions within the next eghteen hours, consider me in.

Nathan- Please catch him up on the story so far...

Why is that? Generally curious and haven't been paying attention. Also, if I declare, how would one know if I was lying or not?
Nathan said pool. Nathan is captain. Face is in the pool.
Perhaps we can get a conservative to make the bet this go 'round. You know, so it actually gets done.

Just to be clear, I have resigned from this game, not the boards.
Quote: billryanJust to be clear, I have resigned from this game, not the boards.
Sorry to have left that impression. Yes, you resigned from the game, not the forum. I had messaged Mike and told him you had done that specifically, so I don't think he thought anything different.
I’ve read through a good portion of the thread and I think I understand what’s going on.
This reminds me of the first Golden Balls game we did and I would say I performed as close to optimally to maximize my winnings as I could. (Share-Share-Share-Steal—Tricked you!)
That said, I don’t feel like I have anything to prove, so I’m just going to add some stability to this game. Therefore:
If I am a team leader, we will vote share, there will be no need for any discussion on the matter. The only exception will be if Wizard ordains that the teams MUST vote on what they are doing or some other similar rule. Ergo, if I am a team leader, every other team should just choose steal, and then all those teams will get something.
If I am not the team leader, then I will submit my vote to share to the team leader.
Thanks again for letting me join the game!
EDIT: Actually, we stole in the last two rounds of Golden Balls, but it was justified. We stole against TIMSPEED who had stolen the first two rounds. It was always my intent to steal in the last round, though.
If you’re not in the main pool, you should join us if you want to be one of the cool kids.
Doesn’t change my (lack of) strategy, I’m just going to vote to share to whatever extent I can.

Ayecarumba:25
RS: 34
Mission, please clarify. Do you plan to pool winnings with the majority, or not.

Heading back from Ireland in a few minutes, Dublin airport is nice, I was NOT impressed with Munich airport and especially not with Ryanair.

Nah he joined the side-pool. So far it's just Mission and me.
What does Ayecarumba: 25 and RS: 34 mean? Oh nevermind, it's the page # of hwich I said I didn't want to be part of the main pool.
If you join my pool I'll give you girl scout cookies for the low low price of only $15 per box, price may vary

No, I’m polling with RS. However, I am going to vote to share every single round to whatever extent I can.

It's a mistake to lock in ahead of rules and strategizing each round, I think. You'll see, if you finish back-reading the thread, where that cost money.

Maybe, but I’m getting in late, so I’m not trying to, “Win,” which I would classify as scoring the most points. (Money)
