Somebody asked me what the T symbol means that these girls were making in this picture. It can be found in my WoO blog entry on Kings Peak, the highest point in Utah. As far as I know, it means to call a time out, but this middle-aged man has not been up to speed with popular culture since the mid-eighties.

(You Ain't Gettin' No) Twat
You're such a soft-spoken Gentleman, but you're like a magnet for coming across interesting types.
The Alto section of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir these chicks are not...
It's a GIFT!
The big question is, WHY did they strike THAT pose? Could the 'T' mean "Tourist" ?

I have no idea. As I said in my blog entry, they walked right past me and my two hiking buddies as we left a Chinese restaurant in the Greektown section of Salt Lake City. I remarked that I'd love to get a picture of them, but didn't have the guts to ask. So the lone female in our group volunteered. She had to run about 50 yards to catch up to them. All she said was they were very nice about accomodating her request. She didn't mention anything about the T.
I have a theory it may be for a sports team of some kind they were fans of.
Oh, my mistake. You said "Utah", not "Las Vegas".

Uh, Sorry Wiz, but I'm pretty confident that girls like that most certainly aren't sports fans.
Quote: rxwineMaybe it's their gang sign.
Speaking of gang signs, I'm proud to say I finally learned two of them. If you make an E shape, it means "east side," and a W means "west side." Do I earn any cool points for knowing that?
Quote: teddysAs my dad says, "White people only get a period of five years to be cool." I'm afraid we're well past the period of being cool (as if I ever was cool in the first place).
Dang. I think your dad is right. I spent those five years in the school computer lab.
Seriously though, those kids in the picture are just trying to be cool and the "T" to them is an inside joke, meaning that you'll never know. Perhaps they started posing together with the "T symbol and that's what they do now. Who knows?
Or the local Home for Wayward Girls begin with the letter "T"?

I'll tell you what teddys....i'll give you some cool points for throwing in "a Tribe Called Quest" reference in a previous thread.... most unexpected!
Quote: boymimboMr. Wizard, you are the antithesis of cool. You are probably one of the greatest math geeks I have ever known, and I've hung around alot of 'em in my university days. You're so uncool that you're hip. I'm also uncool but sadly, according to my daughter, not hip.

Thanks. I guess that is like saying that some movies, like Plan 9 from Outer Space are so bad, that they become good bad movies.
I have a friend in SLC I'm going to ask about the picture. He is about as hip as me, so don't get your hopes up.
Aw, c'mon Wiz! Our hopes have nowhere to go BUT up!Quote: Wizard...He is about as hip as me, so don't get your hopes up.
And judging from the reaction of the older lady to the side... i think they have more to do with T's, as in teasing (also you) guys, lol.

That may be the wisest thing I've read all week. My five years ran out circa 2007 when my hairline began to take flight and I started buying shoes based purely on comfort.
Notable exceptions to the rule include rock stars like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joe Armstrong and Eddie Vedder.
"Hi there. My friend back there would like to snap your photo. If you don't mind could y'all pose doing the letter "T" with your hands, it will drive him crazy for a week wondering why you did the letter T".Quote: WizardI remarked that I'd love to get a picture of them, but didn't have the guts to ask. Quote: Ayecarumba... Of course it could also stand for "Transgender/Transvestite" depending on what night/day you were there as the club also serves as a gathering place for that community too.
Dang! Maybe I wasn't so far out of bounds as I thought I was (back on page 1 of the thread). Guess Utah may not be quite the way I thought.
Quote: DocAre you sure they are girls? Symbol for Transvestite, perhaps?
Oh, my mistake. You said "Utah", not "Las Vegas".
A lot of times the hand symbols look innocent. This cute little cheerleader seems to be doing something like the Vulcan Salute to "Live Long and Prosper".

That "cute little cheerleader" might have a different definition then you can even imagine!!! Even though that is the the nickname of Wichita State University......
Shocker
No offense to anyone, I'm >50y and was "informed" by some youngsters at work as to the real meaning.
Forgive the crudeness of my posting, I'm just trying to keep everyone up to date and "cool".
I really think that nailed it.Quote: FleaStiff"Hi there. My friend back there would like to snap your photo. If you don't mind could y'all pose doing the letter "T" with your hands, it will drive him crazy for a week wondering why you did the letter T".
"something like" is very key. Even in that drawing, Spock is NOT doing the 'Vulcan Salute'. (The Vulcan Salute is just the thumb, index and pinky.)Quote: pacomartinA lot of times the hand symbols look innocent. "We liked to be T-bagged"
Jeez. Is it going to be my burden to be the only perv on this board!
Yes, I am kidding about the meaning. I like the "Transvestite Power" as a better guess, especially because the tall one in yellow is sporting an obvious package.
