the wizard gave me the go ahead to start a thread for las vegas residents to meetup for hiking or other activities.

i mainly enjoy hiking myself but am willing to participate in other outdoorsy activities. i guess what i do mostly is called scrambling. i usually head out to red rock canyon/calico basin to do this. red rock canyon is the side where you pay $7 to get in. calico basin is the turn before that and its free. theres a mountain that divides the two.

im pretty much willing to go whenever as long as its low winds and i didnt go the day before.

other places to go are Mt. Charleston and the Valley of Fire that someone else mentioned in another thread.

so feel free to PM me or to post in this thread with any other ideas.

I hope we can get enough interest to have a WoV outdoor recreation group. I live in north Summerlin and am into hiking, rock climbing, running, biking, swimming, tennis, and unicycling.

I think a good first outing would be Kraft Mountain. I know the route by heart.

Yes, that is the "steep way." Depending on who goes we can go that way again or the easy way both ways. There is another route on the south side of the mountain but it is very loose and rocky.

On top of a mountain. We don't know the name of the mountain so named it mt. Irma. We passed some rock at the bottom that had "Irma?" into it. There's two parking lots on the nonpaying side. The first parking lot is paved and has picnic tables set up. The 2nd parking lot is just gravel. Were at the 2nd parking lot. If you just follow the parking lot straight back. It would be the red mountain to the left.
