All are welcome!

Since this is looking like a pretty brainy group, I will be hosting another trivia challenge! We'll get started with that about 6:00. The prize will be the usual Dogs Playing Poker framed print. Previous winners are Doc and Nareed, so may you join their proud ranks.

Also, one good thing to come out of my employment at the Venetian is I taught myself SAS. I purchased a couple SAS books to help me:

Learning SAS by Example by Ron Cody
SAS for Dummies by McDaniel and Hemedinger

If any regulars could use them, let me know.

I think about 8. We had more than that at one time last year at G2E but it was an informal gathering at the Shufflemaster booth. So this will definitely be an official record.

I just wrote 15 questions for the WoV trivia challenge. Here is a sneak preview of the categories.

General Nevada knowledge (2 questions)
General Gambling knowledge
Sitcoms of the 1970's.
Literature.
Sports.
Horse racing.
Blackjack.
U.S. geography.
U.S. history. (3 questions)
Chess.
Spanish.

Hey switch when is FreeBet coming to the Midwest Casinos? I've told some Dealers about it, they say it sounds interesting. If I talk to my TG's Director, before he heads to G2E, would you like me to mention your booth for FreeBet BJ?

I think that Roger said that it may be heading into one of the casinos in Kansas City but I'm not sure of the dates.

Yes, definitely mention that Free Bet will be on Shuffle Master's stand at G2E - I will be on the stand for most of the exhibition in the first 2 days.

I thought it was 6:00.

But since the expo ends at 5, I assume we'll just get there early and play waitress trivia.

Sigh.... I already owe Mike $15.

I know that not everybody is going to agree with this, but considering everyone's opinion I'd like to suggest that the official WoV event be drinks and eats at I Love Burgers at the Palazzo on Wednesday. The show ends at 5:00 that day. Let's try to leave a little early to claim a big spot at the restaurant. I'd like to suggest we arrive to the restuarant by 5:00, have some drinks until about 6:00, and then order food.

Of course, feel free to make your own smaller meetings with each other by PM.

I would also like to suggest that Shufflemaster judges get that over with before COB Wednesday, so we can compare notes.

Drinks at 5. Dinner 6.

A good time was had by all.

It featured both Waitress Trivia and WoV Member Trivia. I'll post more details once I'm not on my iPhone.

But I gotta say, without delay: Thanks Charles!

Our own Charles Mousseau, Distinguished Gaming Mathematician, covered the entire tab for the wrecking crew. Great guy or what!

Must add:
1. Mike must post the trivia exam, he absolutely excels at this. Prop bets were a warm up. I don't mess with Roulette, but I know the Suicide King (it's hearts); we learn stuff about ourselves when participating in his efforts in this area.
2. Mike should absolutely publish a couple of books or e-books along the lines of "Master Mike's Prop Bet Trivia Challenges..." I cannot picture anyone doing a better job than him, - and I think there's a market.

It does not surprise me that our own mysterious JB managed to hide behind Paigowdan. Those not there will have to continue to wonder what he looks like.

First, congratulations to teddys for being the third WoV trivia champion. To remind you, the previous two winners are Doc and Nareed. It was not even close this time. Out of 15 questions Teddy got 12 right, if I'm not mistaken. I think the second highest score was a 4. It would perhaps surprise nobody that Teddy is also a two-time Jeopardy champion. Here were all the questions.

1. What is the only National Park in Nevada?
2. What is the area code for northern Nevada?
3. Which two states have no legalized gambling?
4. What was the name of the dog on the Brady Bunch?
5. Who wrote the Sound and the Fury?
6. Which two days of the year have no professional sports games?
7. At the racetrack, or in the game Derby, one may bet on the first and second play horses, without regard to order. What is this type of bet called?
8. Which Clark County casino has the most 3-2 paying, single-deck, blackjack games?
9. Name the five Great Lakes. I changed this one to something else, but I forgot what.
10. Besides Lincoln and Kennedy, which two American presidents were assassinated?
11. Sarah Palin is from which city in Alaska?
12. In chess, how many irreversible moves must occur for either player to be allowed to claim a draw?
13. Nevada is a Spanish word. What does it mean in English?
14. Which six national flags have flown over Texas?
15. Name both vice presidents who served under Nixon?

Very well done Teddy. As usual, our champion chose the cash option instead of a framed Dogs Playing Poker print.

Second, indeed, Charles Mousseau of Future Sight Gaming was kind enough to pick up the check. Then he sneaked out before anybody had a chance to thank him. Thanks Charles!

Third, a great time seemed to be had by all. Besides the contest, there was also plenty of trivia on our waitress and each other. Afterward some went to the Treasure Island to play craps where I personally took a $600 beating.

Finally, all there missed the debate. You can watch the full thing here. The audio quality is terrible for about the first 2:40.

I was sitting across from him and I also forgot his name. Of course, I'm terrible with names.

However, he said that he was one of four owners of a small casino in South America (Columbia?). It has about 50 slots and 10 tables.

He said they don't have craps anywhere there. He tried to introduce it but it didn't go over well at all. This confirmed comments in various threads that if craps were introduced today, it would fail.

That man is named Dan (also), and is one of four owners of the Rockerfeller casino in Bogota, Columbia, which is a successful and important casino in an upscale neighborhood there. According to him, the games that seem to go over well in Latin America are the standard games of Baccarat, Roulette, and Blackjack. You will not see craps, Ultimate Texas Hold 'em, Pai Gow Poker, or the likes in Latin America.

Nice group picture, always good to put names with faces. If I'm ever at one of these WoV get-togethers, I think I'm going to have to fashion a mask or something else mildly interesting, as there are a lot of casino security folks on here (even one from my local area!). I wouldn't want to miss out on the picture, but I also don't want to make myself an easier target for heat...

Hey all,

Just wanted to say it was my pleasure to pick up the tab. I had been feeling a lot of anxiety lately about my future (or really, 'the' future) of what I'm do for a living, and between G2E and this excellent dinner (featuring a lot of exciting new faces and some of my clients) it really helped alleviate that. Even if it doesn't last for whatever reason, it was a nice reminder that I actually did get stuff done in five-odd years that I can be proud of. And by that, I mean "put on a resume" ;)

Now that my heartburn has died down from trying to eat that inferno burger, I retroactively resolve that last night was a great time!

OK THE RESULT OF THE TRIVIA CONTEST :

Unfortunately , there was a double disqualification. I actually finish with 14 and one/half. I deliberately left off the correct full answer
on the 6 flags. Once someone has a perfect score, it does not let the next guy have anything to shoot for. But there was a ballot problem.
My penmanship is so bad I did not recognize my own handwriting and somehow i got my own picks to mark. You are not supposed to grade your own answer sheet, so I was disqualified. Now if you me and Switch in the Quinella or " Reverse forecast"
for UK punters, or either of us to win the trivia contest, you lost.

Switch had 13 correct, but someone wrote stone after the total. Since Geoff has not weighted 13 stone since he was a teenager, he was was disqualified for being overweight. Teddy was then given the win.

On a side note, several people put down an Exact a box. This is a correct answer also. However mike though a daily double was picking the horses first and second. He was straightened out on this but a drunk wandering by who shouted a daily double was the winner of 2 consecutive races. I thanked him and asked why he thought it was any of his business. The drunks said he was Fins Uncle.

The grey hair is on too many mug shots.

At 72, that fireplug is still 6 feet tall.

SNOOKER MATCH :

Switch said he left his cue in the UK. But he wanted to substitute anybody in the interest of fairness.

Since we both knew there was no other talent at the luncheon, he actually pointed at the waiter and said he would back him against me.

I was about to go for it until I noticed the waiter's pants were too long and bunched up at his waist. I later asked the waitress if she knew anything about the waiter. She said he had just been hired that day. I gave her $20 to find out his name. She came back later and said he had an English accent but it sounded like Rodney O -my-ass-in-a-van. I figured it out. Ronnie O'Sullivan.

I should have known. My Mom's maiden name was Bailey , from County Cork, Ireland.

I can hear her sweet voice even today, saying :

I would also like to thank Charles for picking up the tab! He was so classy about it as well....paid the whole bill without even telling anyone. I didn't find out until he had already headed out the door and Mike announced it to the group that was still in the restaurant!

It was great to meet additional Forum Members and learn more about them. Notes to self post WoV Dinner:

1) Put all your money on TeddyS in any trivia contest
2) Switch is capable of figuring out math of most proposed BJ rule changes after a full day on the Show Floor and cocktails.
3) If you need to know anything about video poker machines (or slots), CrystalMath is a great source.....and also a hell of a nice guy. By the way, getting a new slot machine approved by GLI is gonna cost you 3 - 4 times as much as the $50K budget for a table game.
4) It is possible to be from Rhode Island (or Maryland) and move to Bogata, Columbia and set up a small casino (I thought Blonde Dan's screen name was "Oskar" something, but I don't see that in the member list).
5) I overestimated the attendance by taking the over 25, but two that were present had to leave early, so they didn't make the picture....total was 17 which I think is still a record.
6) Need a non-IP attorney in Las Vegas, SonBP2 is your guy. Just set up his own practice in LV!

Great time was had and I am looking forward to next year's G2E!

I had a great time at my first G2E. As a gaming enthusiast, I thought I was going to splooge in my pants when I first got to the show. Just excellent stuff. The models didn't hurt either.

The meetup was fun, and exceptionally nerdy, as is to be expected. I think we scared the waitstaff. Thank you again, Charles, for the meal, but sorry I lost $40 for you...

Switch has a deadly deadpan sense of humor. He was killing it at the table. Buzz could hardly keep up with the wisecracks.

As a kid, we all had nicknames instead of screen names. Three fingers Joe Broccolini, Chuck the Pistol Pistorio, Ronnie "don't call
me " Schmuck, even some crazy kid called Buzzard. I hear he shortened ii to Buzz thru violent behavior. Anyway I was kinds curious
about meeting Switch.

My knowledge about Englishmen up until G2E was limited. I only knew of 3 English male characters.

Rober Donat in Goodbye Mr. Chips

Robert Harris as English Bob in Unforgiven

And of course Prime Minister M. Thatcher

Well, Switch is indeed worthy of his name. And I have been around enough to not buy into that ex-school teacher, Country
Gentleman act. I mean he is smooth as silk, and I will have to check with Stephen Mr. Casino games to see if I am right.

I have a feeling when he and Stephen had their club, if a customer was being rowdy and bothering others, Geoff would suggest
you might want to call it a night. If you hesitated to accept that generous invitation, Geoff would SWITCH gears and you might find
yourself sailing thru the air and landing painfully on your English bun in a gutter in front of the establishment.

Having said that, when you returned the next evening all would be forgiven, and your marker might even be good.

But I ain't buying that smooth, beg pardon, English Country Gentleman act, elegant as it is.

Plus, thanks for the second time Charles.

Due to Teddys' blog, I had decided to appeal my disqualification in the trivia contest. Since members crossed state lines to attend, it will be filed in Federal Court.

I will be represented by Waldorf T. Flywheel and his assistant Emmanuel Ravelli of the firm Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel .

I'd like to chime in with a few observations from the WOV dinner along with some ideas on how to make any future gathering, that you may be involved in setting up, a more financially rewarding experience.

Firstly, how to increase your ev at the next WOV meeting or any other social event:-

1. Invite Charles Mousseau - no need to worry about who owes what or determine what size matrix best simulates the individual expense incurred by each member.

2. Invite Buzzpaff and his wife, Josie - place a demo' slot machine (with 0% payback set) in the corner of the room. Distract Buzz for 30 minutes and his charming wife will donate accordingly.

3. Get the waitress to memorize the formula for solving a quadratic equation then bet as much as The Wizard will lay you that she will know the answer. (I guess this one backfires if Mike reads this :-) ).

4. Set up a cash entry quiz for pairs of players and make sure that Teddys is your partner.

5. Any people that you do not wish to attend your event then just make sure either CrystalMath, Paradigm, Lucky or Switch give them directions. That way they will have no chance of turning up. They couldn't even follow a group across the 'Strip' without getting hopelessly lost :-)

Onto other observations from the evening:-

1. When marking the quiz results make sure that you swap Buzz's pen for a red crayon to avoid any confusion :-)

2. If PaigowDan is asked a roulette or nature-related question (especially large mammals) then bet against him.

3. Make sure JB stands at the front of the group when taking a group photo'.

Most of all DO invite everyone who attended that evening because, without exeption, it turned a moderate burger bar into a fun evening.

And to top it all off it was "Moussed" (aka Free)

I look forward to a larger group attending next year - it was really good to put faces to the names on this board. I'm sorry I missed out on the gambling activities that ensued down to being totally shattered after G2E and also because I was part of the navigation group (see (5) above :-).

Always a good idea, an engaging, generous, and mathematically literate guest always!

I agree. It is the only game that I've both neither dealt or really played. Now craps and PGP, and card games in general...

AMEN Dan ... to the gratitude due Charles and to the great time obviously had by all. You guys are a lot nicer than I expected. I knew you were smart and funny, but 'nice' was a nice surprise!
