Am I the only person who never gets maid service? I put the do not disturb sign on the door as soon as I arrive.

I suppose if I was staying in a room for a month then I’d want a maid once a week to change towels/sheets and do a little cleaning. But when you’re in the room for just a couple nights, what can she do besides make the bed …rearrange your stuff so you can’t find it or steal something?

I get surprised when I read some people actually tip the maid

I want fresh towels every day. Other than that, not required for me.

I get that but usually the bathroom has two or three towel sets, enough for a long weekend

My problem is usually the wives are involved and they each require two towels per day.

Not start a tip war, but I used to get daily service, and tipped daily.

That ended when I got fed up with their lack of following instructions.

I don’t make a mess and when I leave for the day, my room is reasonably orderly.

I used to put a note on the bed, in English and Spanish, that said, please don’t tuck the covers, and their tip was left next to it.

Far too often, the covers are still tucked. The tip is always taken.

Now I’m a do not disturb guy.

Let’s not gloss over the implication that you have multiple wives.

    Um. Care to elaborate?

Taking out the trash; restocking the bathroom tissue & minibar; removing any dishes from room service; I believe the maids may also take any of your personal items to the hotel laundry service, should you desire.

    There's stuff they do.

I don't usually want them to do any of it.
May the cards fall in your favor.

It has been elaborated on various times on this forum.

If I'm staying three nights or less and have a room with two beds, I don't bother with housekeeping. If I'm there a week I'll have a mid-trip service.

Maybe that’s the difference. I don’t live in hotel rooms, I just sleep there

Nope. I never get stayover service, either.

I'll usually just go down to the front desk and turn my dirty towels in for clean ones if I need fresh towels. I'll also get trash can liners from down there and take the trash out to the dumpster (or throw it in a bigger trashcan) myself. I'll sometimes get these things from the housekeeper if I see her around, but I generally keep my room really clean, so there's not much that I need her to do...I just sometimes need new stuff.

I'll typically tip if I get anything directly from the housekeeper. I also leave a tip in the room before checking out, but the room is typically near-spotless when I leave. I worked hotels and had to clean the rooms in the event the housekeepers got snowed out...making beds is Hell on the back!

So, I'll usually pull my trash, tie the bags closed and put all of that in one place. Any foodstuffs or containers are in the trashbags. After that, I'll strip the bed and pile up the sheets and pillowcases in one spot. I'll usually fold up the comforters and blankets and stack them on the window bed, chair, or wherever I can...those almost never get washed, anyway, so no harm in stacking them. I'll put the blankets on top of the stack just in case they actually do get washed...the comforters almost certainly do not.

I figure it's always nice to have a room where you basically just have to restock the towels (I leave the used towels in a pile, usually on the floor near the trash) remove the trash bags and old towels, make the beds, restock soap/shampoo and dust off a bit.

I don't want a maid entering my room and jamming my toothbrush up her vagina. They all do that, you know.

If you stay in a room as long as we do, weeks at a time, you run into a policy that all the Vegas resorts have, which is that if you don't allow housekeeping into your room at least every other day, the hotel will pay you a visit to make sure that you are okay, and...not up to no good.

This "welfare check" stems from the October 2017, Mandalay Bay tragedy. No one is allowed to "hole up" in a hotel room without being checked on occasionally. The days of Fear and Loathing until the room is trashed, are over.

Each hotel has slightly different policies for this welfare check: at Wynn, the manager pays a visit accompanied by security, and simply says hello at the door, asks if you are all right, and does not enter. At Venetian, two security guards enter the room, but, in the case of checking on a large suite, don't really go much further into the suite than the living room area. The rest have policies somewhere between the two of never entering or always entering to check on you.

We, especially my wife, don't like to deal with housekeeping, so we will have them visit either only when we are both out, or, if they visit when say, just my wife is present, she will close off part of the suite and allow housekeeping into only the living room, dining area and bedroom (some of these suites have large areas and additional rooms connected to the bathrooms).

So, anyway, you can't get away with putting a Do Not Disturb sign up for more than a couple of days and not being visited by someone from the hotel, so you might as well just let housekeeping in occasionally if your stay is extended.
I tell you it’s wonderful to be here, man. I don’t give a damn who wins or loses. It’s just wonderful to be here with you people. https://wizardofvegas.com/forum/gambling/betting-systems/33908-the-adventures-of-mdawg/
