I'm about to move down to Jackson in a few months. I hate that I'm going to be relatively far from Tunica, so I won't be able to make as many trips over there as I used to, but luckily I'm only about like 45 minutes or so from Vicksburg, so I can make a few trips over there a month. I've played Ameristar twice, but I'm not familiar with any of the other casinos. Hopefully there are a few games VP or BJ to be had. I'm afraid I might just get a bunch of "just stick with Tunicas!!!" Any info would be appreciated!!

I have played in Vicksburg twice and plan to stop by on a trip in a week or so, but I have not spent enough time in any of the casinos to give a review or rating. I'm a small time player and a chip collector, and I just made the rounds to pick up my souvenirs. As I noted in another thread, my trip this month is to make a loop of Louisiana picking up chips from all the casinos there, and I need to stop by Vicksburg to pick up a chip from a casino that changed name from Horizon to Grand Station since the last time I was there.

I did have an interesting, non-gambling experience on my first visit to the casinos there back in April 2006. My wife and I had an outstanding dinner at Bourbons restaurant at the Ameristar riverboat casino, immediately north of I-20. It is a Bar-B-Q and steak place. We had a fine dinner, far more food than we should have tried to eat, topped off with a huge fudge cake dessert, half of which we had to take to go. I thought the price was quite reasonable -- surprisingly cheap even -- at $30 plus tip. (Their current menu indicates that prices have gone up a bit in the last half dozen years.)

When they brought the credit card slip for me to sign, I noticed that it didn't have any indication of where the purchase was made -- didn't say Bourbons, didn't say Ameristar, no indication at all. I thought that was odd, though later it occurred to me that some folks (like those on a business trip with an expense report to file) might not want their receipt to show that their meals were purchased at a casino. Anyway, I asked whether I could have a credit card slip that included the name of the establishment, to complete my own records. That caused a little delay, but they were able to accommodate.

That charge still has not showed up on my credit card account! The great meal seems to have turned out to be free, even though it was not comped. That is one of maybe three credit card charges that I have ever had not come through, and I don't know whether the restaurant never processed it or American Express lost track of it or the charge went to someone else. Great free meal. If I had known I wouldn't have to pay the bill, I would have signed for a lot more than the 20% tip that I did!
