Weird thing with casino advertising here in PA. For years the nearby WV racinos have had a billboard campaign going. With table games here they still have it. But now they seem to make sure they have a billboard within sight of a local PA casino. For me it makes me do a double-take because you wonder who would buy a billboard to advedrtise when you can see their building signage from the same spot. Then you see it was for another casino. Either by PA law or gentlemen's agreement, the local boys seem not to do this, only WV joints.

So, anyone else see this anywhere? Are they trying to get that double take or just stroke the GM of the place they are advertising near?

I would think it'd be a bit of both, but more likely the first.

Might simply be a bidding war for the outdoor billboard space.
After all. If you owned a billboard and wanted to sell your space to someone. Which do you think would pay more?
The guy to whom you can say: 90 percent of the people who see this billboard will already be enroute to your casino.

The guy to whom you can say: 90 percent of the people who see this billboard will already be enroute to your competitors, therefore we are selling you space for an ad that will be seen by actual gamblers not just ordinary passersby.

PA houses may not do it on their home turf, but they definitely reciprocate in WV. There is (or was) a billboard advertising the Rivers on the way back to Pittsburgh from Mountaineer.

I guess people are supposed to think "well, I lost here, so maybe I'll just keep on driving to PA on a whim and try my luck there."

Where was that one at in relation to the casino? I am serious, at both Rivers and Meadows I could take a picture and have the casino and billboard in the same shot.

It is not just the casino industry plays these games, actually. When I worked managing a branch of a national pest control company a manager told a story. Some local company had a billboard for their company right across the street or something. So this guy spent months getting the beuracracy to approve a buy when it became available the next year. The local guy must have loved it-tie up the personal time of a manager, regional manager, and above. Demoralize the sales force and other employees all summer. Oh, and he was buying billboard ads anyways.

On the various highways into A.C., there are plenty of billboards advertising all the casinos.

On the way out, there are billboards advertising out-of-state casinos.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁
