In NYC, many small ,mostly storefront, churches are fronts for illegal cardrooms.

LOL. No money was found being wagered, so not enough evidence to establish that there was illegal gaming. Yeah, sure! 100 slots is no small investment for a bit of innocent amusement. The slot machines belong to someone else.
The church only rents part of the building from their landlord. Someone else rents the other half where the slot machines were found.
