And to think I tough you were going to say they were going to make the old people retest more frequently. Or start targeting the stereotypical race of bad drivers.Quote: DeMangoThe State Senate has passed a bill to up the speed limit to 75mph on the interstate highways and other limited access toll roads. The State House is expected to follow suit. I did the calcs on my 620 mile jaunt past the "almost a casino" in Tampa, to Biloxi, and it will cut 1/2 hour on my travel time. Those driving from the southeast (Miami, Wet Bum Beach) will see even a greater savings.
I can't stand the fact they are giving illegals Drivers licencees here in NV. That's Total BS They should be deporting them not helping them
But it will be nice to go across Alligator Alley at a faster speed... I don't like lingering on a road named Alligator Alley.
Now that I'm learning math and learning Poker Variant Carnival Games I will be enjoying the Seminole places more.
For "Real Craps" I'll always have that Victory Casino ship even if its a bit of a drive too.

Do you actually drive the speed limit or go over?
I dunno how strict Florida is, but if they are like most states, they'll probably not pull you over until you're going 80+. But I wouldn't automatically assume this would move that threshold five miles an hour higher. Illinois upped the limit to 70 this year, and the cops are now pulling people over left and right there. Call me a wuss if you want, I think Florida is too populated for 75, imo.

Higher Speed limit is great for alligator alley, Naples to Ft Lauderdale, driving through the Everglades from Gulf coast to Atlantic coast. I've done that drive, couple hours of nothingness.

It really depends on the area. Tallahassee and nearby counties may ticket at 9mph over. That area has it's own dedicated spotter plane. More lenient here on the west coast, I have no problems at 11mph over.

Do you stop in at the "almost a casino" or just drive by ?
If you just drive by, isn't it cheaper (and a lot faster than 75 mph) to fly ?

I agree there may be some areas where 75 is too high; not sure how they are handling the areas where it will be allowed. The drive from Jacksonville to the western border on I-10 is mostly wide open (especially west of the I-75 interchange) and is a good area for the higher limit.
Anyway, if I where a Florida resident again (someday...), I would play more in Biloxi than anywhere else even if it meant less frequent trips overall. The casinos in Florida just don't work for me. The Victory? Maybe...but what do you do when you hit the felt a think you need to take a long break?

What does population have to do with anything? I assume that we are talking about a divided freeway here, not driving past someone's driveway. Obviously if there is a lot of traffic you can't drive the speed limit.
Speed limits are stupid anyway. They have nothing to do with safety; they are just tax collectors. If the road is empty, the speed that I can drive safely in my car may not be the same as the speed that you can drive safely in your car. If the road is not empty, then you should drive at a speed that is safe given the traffic and road conditions, regardless of the speed limit.
