I will be taking my first ever ocean cruise this summer. For those of you who have been there before, will I be able to find anything playable in the on board casino? VP? BJ? I am guessing that with a captive audience, rules and paytables will be pretty dismal.

Never found any decent VP on my handfull of weekend Carnival cruises from Long Beach to Mexico. Bob Dancer wrote about a small advantage play he found in a cruise casino. I like to gamble as much as anyone but, when on a cruise, I find laying in the sun with a bucket of cheap beer more enjoyable...not to mention the 10 pounds gained from eating around the clock. Have fun!

You can expect 2x odds on craps. Most cruise ships know they have a captive market and that most of them are gambling neophytes, so why should they offer a good deal. The whole casino is still a small part of the ship's revenue.

The cruise I was on had 1X craps - 2X on formal night.

Also, the poker dealers were absolute idiots, with little knowledge of the game.

Here's my full review.

my cruise also had super inexperienced dealers on the craps game. i've mentioned this before, but they would forget to move any come bets to the rolled number quite a bit of time. One of the dealers apparently thought that the come bet lost on 2, 3, 12, and won on 7, 11, and pushed on anything else. that's a massive advantage if you stay silent.

although if PG Dan were captain he might make you walk the plank for not pointing out the dealer error.

I've been on the Norwegian Star twice. The first time they barred me from blackjack. The video poker was terrible. The poker game had a very high rake, I think 10%, with a high cap. The same bunch of players were there most of the time, about half very loose recreational players, and the other half solid players taking their money. Blackjack as least paid 3-2. There were also some good coupons in the fun book.

Very friendly 5-10 limit game I played was a gold mine. Half the players called down with bottom pair even vs a rock. perhaps best limit game I played ever but this was soon after the moneymaker effect. I didn't trust the video poker at first to really give it a good shot it was at 4400 I don't remember the meter movement. looking back I don't know why I trusted the slots but not the VP. They had Xfactors, diamond thief, cherry pies, diamond mines, .25 & $1
Anyone ever get a cruise comped from play on the cruise? Is this hard?

I get my meals comp'd every day of the cruise. Happens on every cruise.

The only cruise 'comps' I have ever received were a nice tee shirt, a baseball cap, and a few drinks from the casino bosses. I've asked for a beer on the house, and I have had them offered to me.

The best comp was from the Celebrity casino manager who was acting as the boxman for one of my late craps session. I closed the casino, and he asked me to stick around while he took care of some things. When he was done, we went to the casino bar and he had the bartender pull down some fancy bottle and pour us a couple of shots. It was some really high priced stuff, and man was it good. When I asked what we were drinking and what it went for, he laughed and said "you don't want to know".

You should try Star Cruises here in Asia.

The BJ here with CSM and their European BJ rules has a 0.50% HA.

They give you 1 point per hour for $10 table. For every 12 points they give you 1 free cabin night. Assuming 100 round per hour it will cost you $5 per point or $60 for 12 points for 1 free night.

That is cheaper than living in the US and/or you could come here for a long long stay.

This is why I am on their ship about 1 week every month. Get bored if stay too long.

Admittedly I haven't run a cruise ship casino in 5 years but last time I did most of the staff wouldn't know a counter if you jumped up and bit them on the nose......They just don't have enough knowledge. Management is a different story but they are hardly on the floor except when things get busy.

A good way to make money on a cruise ship is definitely hold em. The fish are everywhere and taking them down is quite easy actually.

VP is not great and the slots should be avoided at all costs.

Some of the dealers are hot but they aren't interested in passengers, mostly :)

Have fun

Perhaps we are on the way back to the days when transAtlantic steamers issued notices about men being careful with whom they played cards. Some fifty grand losses had lead to suicides but one con man did well be telling his mark "No, I won't play with you, I'm a professional card shark". Then on the last night of the voyage... he relented and did play with his new found friend. Skinned and gutted him ... knowingly.

But int hose days if you didn't like the beating you took, you simply pulled out your six shooter from the your belt and plugged a good few holes in your opponent. Kinda like putting a brick in your glove and slapping him in the face......REAL HARD! :)

Grumble. Fifteen minutes, can't find the thread with the other cruise info, so... Necromancy at work.

Grand Princess, Princess Cruises.

One digital poker table.
Minimal VP.
Slots are mostly current generation, penny denom.
No machine version of table games. (Maybe a GK-style BJ mixed in there, but nothing like the big standalone units. Didn't even see a single-user digital roulette machine.)
One of those weird Gamblit "social gambling" tables.
A few arcade game style units, like Key Master and coin pushers.

Can't give exact rules or table limits as they're not open yet and some signage isn't in place.

Hello! So I've been on Queen Mary, there is pretty cool as i can say "there you will have all in one, a whole the world". Sea(Ocean), Sun and casino at International waters, do whatever you want. But little bit later I've tried to play online casinos, also pretty good while you at home. As i know myself, before I'll start to play i should to learn how payments and withdraw money works. To much scamers without reviews and any documents. I wonder to play play.casino advantage play those guys worker pretty good and support center ready to help you at any time. Good luck!

I would echo previous comments. Recently, on Royal Carribean, you had to play $50 minimum BJ to get 3/2 on blackjack. But always: inexperienced dealers everywhere. Shop around, you will see some odd things in a Cruise Ship casino and maybe there will be a pony in the pile somewhere.

Years ago, I had some great experiences playing live poker, with a dealer, against others in the ship casino. Very beatable games.

More recently, I have not seen live poker games, only electronic poker games, where you all sit at a table with video screens and all the cards and money is done electronically -it felt like on-line poker. After playing it awhile, I realized that the rake was 15% -which is incredibly bad. If you bet, someone calls and you win, you win only 1.7 to 1. I pointed this out to other players at the table at that time, and everyone immediately tightened up and only bet killer premium hands. Basically it sucked mightily. Almost better to play Keno, lol.
