I get 22 for download and 8 for upload from
Comcast. My modem died in Ap and the new
modem is twice as fast as the old one.

Test yours with this site, its the one Comcast uses.

What do you pay? Is it part of a bundle?

Its part of a bundle, but its not more than
$50 a month for internet. Did you do the
test? What are you getting now.

Upgrade your modem. If its a few years
old it could be the problem. My old modem
was doing 10 download and it jumped as
high as 25 with the new one.

In some cases you might not even need to replace the modem/router. An update of the firmware and a reboot can do the trick.

You may find the dollars spent on a new modem is less hassle than updating firmware.

Wow, I must have a problem. I got 2.41 & 0.43 scores. It rated them as D- for the USA.

How can I improve this? My PC is 3-4 years old.

Do what Cesspit said or get a new modem. In the
last year they have gotten really fast. There was an
even faster one I could have gotten but the guy at
Best Buy said I wouldn't see the difference, don't
waste the money.

I don't know all the techno-reasons behind it, but nominal speeds are different than actual speeds. If my understanding is correct, then 13-actual is about what you would expect with a 15-nominal.

That's correct. Just for overhead (routing info and correctness checks) you lose about 7% so that's 13.95. Then you can never quite get theoretical peak even in the best conditions. If you have a cable modem then it can vary even more with neighbors usage.

I got 14 in the morning and 15 in the middle of the night. So I assume that I am affected by how many of the neighbors are using the cable.

The RCN cable company says it's average revenue per customer is $113.
Video 55%
Data 25%
Voice 17%
Other 2%

It makes me believe that they have very few customers purchasing the 60Mbps Internet for $70 per month.

I see that Google is going to try and introduce ultra high speed internet to Kansas City. It doesn't say the speed or what it will cost, but I am betting on 1 giga bit per second for possibly as much as $100 per month. I wonder who will be the takers?

15 really isn't bad. I doubt you could tell the
difference between my 22 and your 15. I was
getting an 8, so I notice a huge difference.
Nobody needs 60 unless there techno junkies
and are downloading mega stuff that would
baffle the rest of us. 15 is plenty fast enough
for watching movies or anything else you might
want.
