My goal is not to lose a certain amount in a certain amount of time but just to exercise and eat healthy. The weight will start coming off if I hold to that plan. At my size I think it’s very realistic that I can be down to around 200 pounds by the new year. (I’m only 5 ‘10) I have a friend who is a gym rat that will be on my ass everyday to stay on his workout plan and I thought it would help me if I was accountable to this thread. I plan on posting weekly updates on how it’s going.
The poll question is basically how much do you think I will lose or gain by January 1, 2020.
TLDR.Quote: PokerGrinderI’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life. My highest weight was 292 pounds around 2011. I got down to about 245 by exercising and eating better but that all went out the window when I moved to Las Vegas for 6 months in 2013/2014. By late 2014 I was back up to about 270 and after WSOP 2015 I was about 284 again. I stayed above 270 for the next 18 months or so before finally slowly losing the weight during 2017. I got down as low as 214 after my trip to Asia for 3+ months in 2018. From there I put a little bit of weight back on but kept steady until last October. Since last October I’ve put on over 25 pounds and I currently sit at 251 pounds. (I think this timeline makes sense)

I second that emotion. All I know
for sure now is as you get past 50
weight loss is twice as hard and
gaining is twice as easy.
Quote: AyecarumbaI wish you well PG. I think you can get back to 220, but cracking 200 will be a challenge without the intense amount of walking in the jungle heat you did in Asia. As the winter months come to Canada, how will you keep the intensity of the exercise up and avoid the poor food choices available at the poker room?
I have a free gym membership through my parents businesses and I also have an elliptical machine in my house. Also my friend who will be on my ass is a very large guy who lifts a lot therefore he can inflict pain lol. Jk but he hopefully will keep on me to work out.
Not eating in the poker room is easy, the food sucks. I’ll just make food and bring it with me.

day and the weight will come off. No
carb calories.
You can do it!
Just stay out of the parent's popcorn!
Quote: FleaStiffI have heard that chasing a variety of German girls around Asian youth hostels can lead to weight loss.
Flea should trademark this weight loss program. He could call it "NutriStieren".
While not overweight, Axel and his boyz certainly weren't shy about pointing out that I wasn't in the "best" shape at the superbowl party. Mostly due to injuries and traveling full time for AP now, I had to readjust my life to make a healthier life a possibility again...
In the past 2 months, to the day, I'm down 30lbs, from 199, to 169... which means I'm probably down about 35 lbs of fat but gained about 5 lbs of muscle. I did a fair amount of research and found my "sweet spot," where my body wouldn't think I'm starving but I cut calories along with working out. Basically I take in 1450 calories per day, and if I workout and burn 300 calories, I eat another 300 calories. My goal per day is to take in a "gross" 1450 calories. By doing this and simply working out intensively 2-3 days per week, I've dropped aforementioned 30 lbs in 2 months. I think I'll probably do another 10 lbs because I'll finally be in "really" good shape, and then I'll move to a maintain plan. So basically in 6 months, with having the weight to lose, I think you could easily lose 50 lbs... probably closer to 60 in fat, and picking up 5 lbs of muscle.
Basically control the calories in, and when you DO workout, even if it's just 2-3 days a week and not every day, KILL IT. Like anything else in life you get out of it what you put in. There's a MASSIVE difference in walking for 10 miles and running for 10 miles. The amount of effort you put in will dictate how your body responds in a big way. Good luck and if you want any motivation or ideas for new workouts/meals, you've got my number =).

I do drink my coffee-water black (no longer any Old Sock coffee or Boiled Roach coffee).

A realistic goal would be twenty pounds by January. People often fail by setting unrealistic goals. I find setting easily achieved goals builds momentum and leads to long term success. Instead of picking a weight target, find a favorite pair of pants you no longer fit into.
Make wearing them your immediate goal.
Everyone is different, and reacts differently. I don't do long term goals well, I need to keep the prize directly ahead of me. You know yourself best. Be realistic and don't be afraid to fail.
Best of luck.
Bill I think you misread my post. I’m not setting 50 pounds as a goal but more as a guesstimate of what I think might be possible if I do what I need to do.

Ya juice drinks are full of sugar. Apple or orange juice sounds like it should be healthy but are anything but. Water is of course the best drink but it does get boring sometimes. I do also drink black coffee and my weakness coke zero.
I thought I'd pass along something to you that has helped me. It is an obvious thing but it has made a big difference in my life. Just try to put off eating the first meal of the new day. You might go 1,2 or 3 hours or more until you eat. When I find myself thinking about food every few minutes, I eat.
I was told that by doing this your system has a better chance to lose weight, because you are going longer since the last meal from the day before.
Also, take at least a one mile walk each day. And I have no cookies, pie, chocolates or desserts in the house. The more you avoid these foods the more you'll think of them as junk. Eating sugar makes you want more sugar.
And lay off the chicken McNuggets!
Good luck!

I know a lot of people do the intermittent fasting and I have not done much research on it, but I thought it has always been said to eat in the morning to kickstart your metabolism. Is that not the case anymore

I was told that you burn off sugars first, then after you have burned off any excess sugar you then burn off fat. That's the reason for waiting to eat the first meal of the day. I was told this by a retired L.A. county sheriff who was thin. He fasts too.
I eat small bits throughout the day, that has always worked best for me. I have a bowl of steel-cut oatmeal and scrambled eggs consisting of 1 egg and 1/2 a cup of egg whites for breakfast. I just had carrots and hummus and when I get hungry I’ll have 5 oz of roasted chicken with 1 cup of brown rice. For dinner I’ll have chicken or fish with rice and most likely asparagus. If I want a snack later I have a handful of roasted tamari almonds.

Lol no offence but being thin doesn’t qualify him to give nutritional advice.
Quote: PokerGrinderRomes I will probably take you up on that offer. I plan on adding muscle as I lose weight so I don’t know how much muscle weight I will put on. I assume 5-10 pounds of muscle mass in 5 months makes sense.

I didn't misread it. I'm just saying keep your goals short term, and your long term ones will follow.
If you are two fifty now, I don't think losing fifty pounds in five months is very realistic. I sincerely hope you prove me wrong. It will take a lifestyle change. One day at a time.
Quote: billryanBe realistic and don't be afraid to fail.

I disagree completely. If you set a goal, do not fail under any circumstance. If the goal is realistic, failing is just an excuse. Be mentally strong. If Irom Sharmila can go 500 weeks on a hunger strike, why can't you?

I've been up for 4 1/2 hours and just had my first meal of the day. A good-sized bowl of oatmeal with 30-calorie per serving almond milk and no sugar. And it tasted great. (If I had to eat celery I wouldn't like it!)

Allow me to rephrase. Don't be afraid to stumble. Once you set your mind on something, time is the only thing keeping you from it.

Before they used the glucose drink
they do now, before a glucose
tolerance test they gave you orange
juice because it's pure sugar and
hits you with a jolt.
not quite sure what planking is, do remember some headlines about public planking and police responses.Quote: PokerGrinder15 minutes on the elliptical and then a 1 minute plank. I thought the planking would be easy but my arms started shaking 10 seconds in lol.
Exercise?? I lifted my coffee cup this morning. I pressed a few buttons on the alarm clocks.
Open the paper and read the Obits.
If I'm not there, then I know I'm not dead
So I eat a big breakfast and go back to.bed.

Thanks for the youtube video. It is generally pleasant to look at girls in work-out togs, but all this talk of form amazes me. I could not even do a proper push-up age twelve.Quote: PokerGrinderhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ASdvN_XEl_c

Pain is good. Its when you wake up not in pain, that you should worry.
Recently had fabulous mahi mahi
tacos using thin sliced jicama for shell.
Good elimination of carbs I think
I've written about it ad nauseum I guess, but one thing I like is that it adds to your sense of self control and what you are capable of. We are mostly massive babies here in the 21st century and the first world. Things that 100% of people used to do without even thinking about it seem like tremendous challenges.
I'm about due for a 5 day+ one.
It's nice for situations like the one I'm in now. I'm on the east coast. I was in NYC. Entirely possible I will never be back. I'm not going to deny myself pizza and pastrami on rye. By throwing in a few 24 hour fasts, I've kept the damage minimal.
I've researched it a lot. I'm open to trying new things and experimenting, but at the end of the day, I have a skeptical nature. I'm not going to just believe a bunch of crap I read on Reddit, or from somebody trying to sell stuff, or a person who is a guest on a show where they also discuss bigfoot. I'll LISTEN, but I'll research and experiment on myself to reach the best conclusions I can.
While I don't do one meal a day, I think this is one of the better overviews of the history of fasting dating from ancient Egypt, to Plato, to Upton Sinclair to contemporary doctors and scientists. A good jumping-off point. A great channel overall.

A lot of hard work and dedication. Not everyone can consume massive amounts of empty calories and vegitate. Most people put on an extra ten or twenty pounds and lack the testicular fortitude to keep going. Someone like you, I can't see you hitting 350.
