least two hours a day on YouTube watching
the news, playing Rush Limbaugh in the
background, looking at videos on the 37
channels I'm subscribed to. I got hooked on
hiking videos Last Summer. I'm subscribed
to 5 cooking channels. All kinds of esoteic
stuff I'm subscribed to.
I never watch any of the cable news networks
in real time. Every segment on every news
channel shows up on YouTube minutes after
it's done, minus the commercials. There are
hundreds if not thousands of complete movies
on YouTube. Complete episodes of old TV shows,
complete documentaries, movie trailers and clips,
the amount of total content there is
mind-boggling. When I think about it, it's
probably closer to 3 or 4 hours a day did I spend
there, it's my go-to place on the internet.
I love Sam the Cooking Guy. His inspiring because
he thinks outside the box. His channel has exploded
lately, he's adding 3500 new subscribers a day.
I really like hiking videos. This girl hiked all 2600 miles
of the Pacific Crest Trail last summer. She's very
entertaining and you can interact with them as they
hike in the comments section.

commercials. Now they all do. Progressive,
Farmers, State Farm. Liberty Mutual
finally gave in.

What do you think about the cheating allegations against the Limers? Do you think they really tried to disrupt the Raspberry Racers but somehow messed with Team Primary instead? Doesn’t make sense to me, especially when you consider Team Primary had good speed going into the final leg of the relay. Therefore, it’s clear Team Primary just messed up on the last hand-off and wanted to make the Limers an escapegoat. Then again, I wouldn’t put it past those dirty Limers fans to cheat....their whole organization is corrupt AF.
The entire event is fascinating, but the alleged cheating starts later, around 10 min 30 sec.
https://youtu.be/O2AbcCbyJ2U
Again, this is just the QUALIFIERS. And if you knew anything about the Marblelympics, you’d know it’d be just stupid to try to cheat in that fashion. The Raspberry Racers are WAY BETTER than the Limers, so cheating against them doesn’t really make sense, it’d make more sense to cheat against other teams that have similar skill. Remember, the allegations are they TRIED to cheat against RR. Even if it was a bait-and-switch, why would they cheat against Team Primary? With TP’s young squad and developing talent (reads: untalented), the Limers are significantly better than they are. TP is simply not even a threat against the Limers.
I think it was a fan or group of fans from a different team that caused the disruption, possibly making it look like it was the Limers who did it. Probably Mellow Yellow or Balls of Chaos, IMO.
I get hooked on old rusty knives and
cleavers. I often watch the first 2 min
and skip to the last 2 min for the reveal.
Awesome.
Some of these have millions of views.
make a living having a cooking channel.
Laura in the Kitchen has 3.3 million subscribers
and her videos get 10's of thousands of hits.
She probably earns between $300K and $750K
a year by making cooking videos in her
kitchen. She also makes product placement
money. There are channels that make
millions a year.
Laura is one of the good ones..

I'm thinking of making a new YouTube channel called "Fun with Math" or something like that. I plan to buy a big white board and just solve math problems and talk about how great math is. I probably will get tens of views, but who knows. Too bad I don't look like Hannah Minx or I would be getting millions of them, as she did.

She reminds me of an owl.
Quote: EvenBobThere are thousands of restoration videos.
It's like confidence in a can. I just finished gutting the first half of my house. Prolly never would've pulled the trigger, but I know I got a hundred guys to show me what to do if I get stuck, and a thousand guys to show me how to repurpose all the s@#$ I'm stripping
Between YT and overstock auctions, I'll re-floor my entire house for less than just the labor for just the kitchen. It's like a 500% return on investment in 2wks. Add in plumbing, electric and automotive and the site damn near prints money. Just add effort.

It could work but I would say needs 2 things. First, it must be *FUN*. Show it in a neat way. Best example I have that is close to math is explaining how dice work. People half the time do not know that opposite sides add to 7. Really, I have been in rooms of some of the best math and computer geniuses on the planet and they do not realize this. I once made it fun enough that a half-drunk lady of the house spent over a minute flipping the dice over as if it would change the result.
Second, show the practicality. As I have often said, I never once had an algebra teacher explain a practical use for algebra. Not once. Just those "B chasing A" problems that the answer should always be written in, "if B would just have been ready to leave when her husband said they had to leave the whole problem would not matter."
It's funny to me that someone would watch youtube and then head for the cable news and advertisements amid the sea of fun and informative content. That's like going to the buffet at Ceasars and eating a bunch of taco bell you smuggled in.
Best all around poker channel, is Doug Polk, one of the world's top players. A lot of his concepts are too advanced for smaller stakes, but you still learn some stuff and it is cool to observe the higher level thinking. Plus he is a funny guy.
My favorite channel atm is Vegetable Police. Funny enough to be a pro comedian, which he sorta is I guess. He is a diet and fitness experimenter who kind of hops from one extreme to the next. A vegan for several years, here he is eating raw chicken that has been left in an unrefrigerated jar for several weeks.
Just found What I've Learned. Short videos, with a bent towards self improvement. How we learn a foreign language, what causes mental health issues, nutrition, etc. He is just a smart guy who does his own research, so nothing is authoritative. But it can still be helpful to get an overview of hours of research in 10 mins.

My generator wouldn't start a few weeks

5 min on Youtube and it started on the
first pull.
It's like having all the practical knowledge
of the planet in one easily accessible place.
It's hundreds of libraries and archives in
your home. To think what I had to do just
20 years ago to find info makes me tired.
Youtube and sites like it have to advance

YT is the biggest part of the "information superhighway."
My dad was amazed at some of what was on there. But he didn't get how it is the first thing you look at. Once I had to call him to ask something about car mechaincs and he didn't know. He calls back and asks if I "checked YouTube." He didn't get that I called him because I couldn't find it there.
Yet all the times I showed him all that was on there he still rather watched cable.
Funny, I just came back from the generator repairman. Mine is an Onan LP powered, so my knowledge was minimal, and access is zilch. So refreshing to encounter such a knowledgeable and honest guy. The price to replace RV generators is horrifying. But its nice to be able to go way out in the desert and have air conditioning.Quote: EvenBobMy generator wouldn't start a few weeks

Mine involved staring fluid and getting

you carried a can in your car at all times.
I surprised I had one and knew where
it was.

Tough competition out there. Do you watch Numberphile at all? It is my go to math channel.
121 mil views, award nominated.

Yes! That is a great channel. I could never top him, but hopefully somebody would learn something from me.

You have to have a hook, or don't bother.
You have to be unique somehow, give
people a reason to watch. Too many
boring math channels out there already,
you have to be not boring talking about
a boring subject.

I've thought about getting a well-endowed model to ask me questions, but it would seem ridiculous if she didn't actually understand what I'm talking about. I will probably start out just being myself and see where it leads. It isn't like there is a shortage of material when it comes to math.

Get someone skilled in nude body painting and have them draw/paint the math concept on the model's body while you explain. You can time lapse it some to move the pace along for some of the drawing parts.. 100s of thousands of subscribers in no time.
Nude body painting is allowed on youtube.

Actually, that's a killer idea. Vegas is
great place for such girls, too. I'd
watch.

I've been thinking about it for
the last hour. You'd need a few
girls and rotate using them.
It's perfect because math guys
are notoriously shy with women,
especially nude ones. They would
never do something like this, but
they sure as heck would watch it.

off like a rocket.
Yup, it's on Youtube

I think it was Casino Royale, one of those 007 movies where they were playing NLHE and the hands were: 4oak, SF, and royal flush, something ridiculous like that. Anyway what're the odds lol

now that is a true bad beat.
My kids watch youtube all the time, I watch it to learn how to fix my car and house.
Embarrassing..
And non gambling favorites....Bad Lip Reading is always good for a laugh. The wife and I like Psychetruth massage videos to help fall asleep at night. ASMR has become pretty big on YouTube. Sometimes when I'm busy around the house, it's always nice to put on a podcast on a topic I'm interested in.

This is pretty funny.
went in public computers knew who you were
and they targeted advertising specifically for
you. It's already happening on Google and
YouTube.
If I look up something on YouTube, like restoring
an oak floor, for days afterward videos will pop up
on that subject. 3 weeks ago I Googled information
on LED lanterns. Everyday I'm still seeing ads for LED
lanterns.
I can only imagine what a pain in the ass this is
going to be when we get to the world like in
Minority Report.
Quote: EvenBobIn the movie Minority Report, everywhere you

In some major cities in China they are already doing that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but people are getting fines in the mail for things like littering when caught by a public camera that used facial recognition to identify the suspect.
It is only a matter of time until what you saw in Minority Report is reality. I give it about 30 years before you walk into a Banana Republic and are welcomed by name when you set foot through the door.

Did you watch the videos? It is the whole insulated culture. Professors write crazy articles for journals only professors read. They get career advancement from it. The system feeds on itself.
FWIW, Global Warming is the same phenomenon.
