$25 at Cook Unity
Two pounds of lasagna, fresh shredded Parmesan cheese and a dozen meatballs. Freezer bound.
Dinner was two hot dogs and some Jolly Ranchers.

Hot dogs and canned ravioli? Isn't that the diet plan that escaped convicts use while they're on the run?
Quote: billryanAmerican cheese and black beans grilled on a burrito. For about a buck, I can make four of these and serve four of my homeless neighbors. Black beans are good for you, but finding ways to hide them in my food eludes me. Maybe swallowed whole in yogurt.

I like black beans and rice. I usually slice up some sausage and add it to the rice.

Black beans and rice, hot dogs and canned ravioli. You're moving up from what escaped convicts eat toward what the hobo gangs used to eat in the homeless camps during the Depression. Beans and rice gives you a complete protein and you do not need to add meat to it.

I am cheap.
Last night the wife cooked so I had a "real" meal. Tuscan chicken over pasta.

Beans and rice is a personal favorite.
The rice is easy to make, and with a rice cooker, it's almost playing the cooking game with a cheat code.
Adding a few spoonfuls of black beans, chili beans, baked beans, porkand beans, kidney beans, or whatever beans is easy.
Crown it with a fried egg and condiments. Behold the exquisite bachelor cuisine.
Otherwise... I've been getting black bean refried beans lately. A smear of that on a tortilla as the first part of a soft taco is a pretty easy way to "hide" them, not that I have to "open the hanger, and park the airplane" or anything.

No sauce? Tomato sauce would balance off that meal.

No, they have sauce inside them.
I have some eggs that are going to expire tomorrow. So I'm going to cook them all today and freeze them in single serve meals so they'll keep. One can also freeze raw eggs, too. Never tried either so wish me luck!
For lunch I tried some German sounding white hot dogs instead of my usual Nathan’s. They weren’t bad, but I prefer Nathan’s.

Nathan's are the only hot dogs that I buy anymore.
Sonoran hot dogs seem to be sold everywhere in Tucson, even pizza places. These oversized dogs come with heapings of seemingly everything under the sun. Not for me.

The ingredients in a hot dog are basically the same ingredients in a can of cat food. I don't eat cat food. Decades ago when I had the cab company a customer I picked up on a regular basis owned a meat packing business and he invited me in once and showed me how they made hot dogs. I don't think I've eaten the hot dog since then. It was absolutely disgusting. Like the old saying goes, they will take you to the kitchen and show you how the sausage is made. Nobody wants to see that.

Blasphemy!!! A hot dog should be eaten au natural with nothing on it,

Blasphemy!
A hot dog should be dragged through the garden.

Quote: billryanA proper hot dog has mustard and a bun. Anything else is silly.

Mustard just masks the taste of the hot dog. I could see putting it on poor quality hot dogs but not on a good one. Of course, I don't use condiments on any food.
The last time I had a certification class in Las Vegas, they were gone.
Quote: billryanLast night, I had a sausage lasagna from Cook Unity. I like meat lasagna, so I expected I'd like it, but it was too spicy. It reminded me more of a burrito than lasagna. The odd thing is none of the reviews mention it being spicy.

A spicy lasagna sounds good to me. I put hot Italian sausage and pepperoni in mine..

That's rather the point isn't it. That's why condiments were invented.

I put eggplant and pepperoni in mine. I prefer sweet sausage to spicy, but this particular lasagna had more than spicy sausage.
My Dad had a stomach wound from WW2 and ulcers, so I grew up eating very mild food.

Why eat something that you need to mask the taste of? I never understood people putting dressing on salad and now people put ranch on everything. People putting sauces on chicken fingers confuses me too. I like the taste of chicken, why mask it? I will put seasonings on food like salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder but to me those don't mask the taste of the protein.

I see it differently.
Salad is the instrument I use to deliver ranch, because drinking ranch from the bottle is uncouth.
Chugging tartar sauce is frowned upon, but slather it all over fried shrimp and it becomes socially acceptable.
I've learned to read the ingredients on the liquids in my fridge. Starting with fruit juices, bbq sauces, ketchups, mayo, salad dressings, yogurts, etc. Some are eye-opening and can change how you think about them.
Quote: gordonm888I often eat my salads without salad dressings. I want to taste the vegetables and toppings not the gooey or vinegary dressing.

My Mom was on a diet for years that had one rule- don't eat anything where sugar is in the first five ingredients.

If you cut the stalk off and just heat the florets it will heat much faster.

So, today for lunch, I had a socially acceptable meal...
Fried shrimp was delightfully crispy, which is sadly often not the case.
