Without insulting you, that’s pure jealousy and only rewards poor life choices. Make more, pay more, at the same rate as everyone. Hard to get much fairer than that. And it’s what Democrats depend on, class envy. Yea it’s a different thread but Nathan’s opinion on our tax system would be interesting.

Not sure where you are pulling jealously from because I don’t think I’ve ever disclosed what I earn here.

A progressive system is completely fair. Everyone is subject to the same tax rates. A minimum wage worker pays exactly the same amount of taxes on their first $10k as a Billionaire would. What exactly is not fair about that?

The basic cost of living is the same for everyone despite their income, so taxes are a greater financial burden for low earners, thus they are taxed at a lower rate.

Bad decisions?? No one decides to stay home and stop earning money because they would owe 3% extra on their next $100k....keep dreaming.

I agree with you. People who make more money should pay higher taxes and people who make less should pay lower taxes. Even Peter Griffin from Family Guy mentioned the same thing and he's usually a Moron, but had a bright spot of intelligent clarity to think of that on his own

Sounds a bit like communism: "From each according to his ability; to each according to his need."

The problem, of course, is that millions of Americans "fail" at life and it is up to those who succeed to carry them.

That ain't fair; they should not be my problem.

Nature: survival of the fittest.

Coddling failures and mental defectives undermines the ability of humanity to evolve in a positive direction.

But not everyone has the opportunity to succeed. The once able bodied guy minding his own business and got hit by a drunk driver and now is paralyzed in a wheelchair would not be near as successful as the burly construction worker who is able bodied. Let's see who is more likely to succeed. A paralyzed wheelchair bound man or the burly, able bodied Construction Worker. -.-

Nice platitudes, but it should be the responsibility of family and church, not strangers / taxpayers, to care for the poor and the homeless.

America is the land of opportunity; if people are too lame to figure out how the game of life is played it shouldn't be my problem.

Can someone share with Billy I take my shots not caring if he sees them or not. He knows how I feel about him and people who know me, know it’s not an act. I totally disagree with him on almost everything from his politics of dependence to his fake persona. His hatred of others who he doesn’t agree with shows his true colors.

What’s sad is how he lives off others hard work and presents himself as better than others.

He’s living proof we should always Thank Vets for their service, but some didnt learn anything from the opportunities it presented them.

Now Bill, go back to ignoring me and go enjoy that free Burger, you certainly earned it.

Care to say why you believe people should be penalized for success or hard work?

Isn’t paying more since you are making more enough? Or do you believe that a family of 4 should be punished if one parent takes a 2nd job to provide his children a better life? Even if it’s just on the extra money, should he or she pay a higher rate on that money assuming it moves them into a higher bracket?

Not sure if you ever get OT at your job, but do you notice how much the tax goes up? While you personally may get it all back at tax time, others don’t.

Thanks Nathan.

About not being a Welcher, let's say I made a Sports Bet with a certain bar and let's say I said, 'The Miami Dolphins are such a good Team, I have a strong feeling they will win at least one game within two weeks, and if they lose every game in two weeks I promise to pay the Bar Owner , let's say Timothy, $100. The Dolphins lost every game in those two weeks and too late won three games in the third week. Yikes. On a side note I didn't day the exact date I would pay Timothy the bet if I lost. I stopped being a Patron at that bar but I did tell another bar that Timothy visited sometimes that I would pay him on say January 10th. I went to Timothy's Bar one day and Timothy barred me(No bar pun intended, ;) from coming back for welshing on the bet! He wouldn't even let me in! So, do I still have to pay Timothy the $100 since he barred me from his bar? :/

Let's just say, I gave an unbanned bar Patron $100 to give to Timothy yesterday. :) So, technically, my "Bar tab," is paid off. :)

Hmm.. after further thought, I don't even know how the codes work, I can't even recall if I have ever used an Amazon gift card. So let me ask, if 3 people have the code, then what? Can either Me, Nathan or Dan now use the code? Would anyone know who used the code? Can you lock the code to your account so no one else can use it once you receive it?

Here's a tale of "15 stupid lottery winners."

15 stupid lottery winners

When and if you win, Nathan, what would YOU do to avoid this sort of thing?

I would keep working at Walgreen's, nothing sadder than winning The Lottery, quitting your job, and end up broke within a year and begging for your job back like what happened to a literally poor sap, keep quiet about winning The Lottery for the most part, and provide for my family and friends.

I would put some of the money into Walgreen's Stock, buy a modest car,(My childhood Fantasy car was a Toyota Camry, I was a weird child, ;) but with all the Toyota Recalls I'd get a Nissan I guess, and my own modest house, like the house I grew up in(When I was young, my house had 4 bedrooms, with two bathrooms, but as an adult, the house was renovated to become a duplex and now has 5 rooms, but still only two bathrooms, LMAO! :D) If I become a Lottery Winner, a four bedroom house like my childhood home would be sufficient, ;) No need to have a 5 bedroom house like it is now. In fact, a 3 bedroom house would be even more ideal since I am a single woman with no children. One bedroom for me and two for company who might come over. So, a three bedroom house it is if I win. :)

I would donate to charities that are legitimate and not scams. I'd give money to people down on their luck on the streets. I'd make sure that generations after my own generation are still living off of my Lottery win. :) Great nephews and nieces would still be living off of my Lottery win. :)

Nathan, those are sensible.

I note however that you said nothing about how winning a lottery might influence your future gambling.

Seems to me it would be tough to resist increasing both the amount bet at your current games as well as taking up new gambling games, given the infusion of free money.

It's obvious Nathan hasn't thought this through. You simply owe it to the forum to attend a WOV get together. With money no longer an excuse, we expect you at the very first meeting after.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

To be fair there really wouldn't be any real point to continue gambling after winning say 100 million in cash after taxes.

What?

Are you saying you gamble to MAKE MONEY?

Girl, you are playing negative expectation games.

If I won 100M in a lottery I'd most certainly step up my gambling activity, as it is fun to gamble, I enjoy it.

You might want to rethink it when you hit.

Quite commendable.

If you are so lucky might I suggest you consider giving to the Hullabaloo-Definitely-Not-A-Scam Foundation?

That’s the one that helps all those Nigerian princes get their money out of Nigeria and into other countries due to wars and conflicts in their country, right?
