About not being a Welcher, let's say I made a Sports Bet with a certain bar and let's say I said, 'The Miami Dolphins are such a good Team, I have a strong feeling they will win at least one game within two weeks, and if they lose every game in two weeks I promise to pay the Bar Owner , let's say Timothy, $100. The Dolphins lost every game in those two weeks and too late won three games in the third week. Yikes. On a side note I didn't day the exact date I would pay Timothy the bet if I lost. I stopped being a Patron at that bar but I did tell another bar that Timothy visited sometimes that I would pay him on say January 10th. I went to Timothy's Bar one day and Timothy barred me(No bar pun intended, ;) from coming back for welshing on the bet! He wouldn't even let me in! So, do I still have to pay Timothy the $100 since he barred me from his bar? :/

That is a tough one. In this case, had you paid, you would still be allowed there. So in a way, you have paid. If the bar owner would agree to allow you back in if you paid him a reasonable amount above $100, then you should. This guy Timothy has seemed to say he doesn't want your money or your business at this point, so wouldn't blame you if you didn't.

It's not always right to settle all bets. I don't know if many exceptions, but the one I do know of, is when the other party, you have proof they never intended to pay you if they lost the bet. Let's say if DJT had a bet with another billionaire for 25 million. DJT loses the bet, but before he could pay, he finds out the other billionaire is going bankrupt in secret, and had no possible way to pay if he lost. I'd say this makes the bet invalid, it's not a Welch. If you say DJT should pay the broke billionaire, you're an idiot.

The loser should absolutely pay. One thing has nothing to do with the other. What's next? Saying you can get out of a bet because if you pay the guy, he might use it to buy drugs? People of honor pay their debts and their bets. People without honor look for excuses not to have to pay either. If expecting people to honor their debts makes me an idiot in your eyes, I can live with it.

First off Karen. Thanks for settling up on your promise here. Kudos to you.

Not really much need for making your question into a metaphor. I'll spell out a reminder. At the time of her 'promise' here, she made pretty much the same promise to send $100 to the forum owner at another forum: The one that used to be alansbestbuys forum. After a few posts there she was banned.

My personal opinion: She should reach out to the forum owner to attempt to make arrangements to make good on her promise. He may or may not accept her money. She shouldn't break the rules of his forum to do so, though.

I haven't been that involved in the other forum, but from what I did see, the welch wasn't the primary reason for the ban. Nathan was banned there for trolling and other stuff (and welching) based on some background investigating he did.

So I don't think it's wise for anyone here to speculate that she would be un-banned there just for paying the promise off. Maybe it will be enough, maybe not - it's not up to any of us. JMHO.

I took care of it via a post at that board.

from my understanding, Dan will ban a members sock accounts but lets them retain their original account.

You need to look at the definition of a bet. A bet is where two parties agree to take sides on an event, and pay the other party if they lose. In this example, there was never a bet, because the other billionaire never had the means to pay if he lost. What you advocate is paying a conman for a scheme he concocted after you realize it is a scheme. I'm as honest as a $25 ribeye, that dog meat must have mad cow disease. What you're saying is similar to paying a man because you made a deal to buy the Brooklyn bridge, after you realize he doesn't own the bridge. Think about it, what is the definition of a bet?

And others in the recent past were even actively encouraged to keep up with being corner-worthy, in one case even as the board found it necessary to change it's notification software. specifically & explicitly so folks' email inboxes wouldn't continue to constantly be spammed by the endless flood of idiotic 'feathered' gibberish being mistaken for actual topic replies, for one example. And at least one recent troll identity made no serious effort at concealment whatsoever, was obviously created as a taunt to a particular moderator, starting with the clear poke in the eye of the screen name making a 'monkey' out of the oblivious target, continuing with the obvious "I dare ya" creation of the pretend gender & nationality & make believe ethnicity, while attempting to raise a ruckus by cooking up the most vulgar expressions of supposed outrage & imaginary mistreatment. Hilariously, that troll attempt seemed to fail mostly because the target somehow inexplicably remained completely clueless, while practically begging "her" to stay and keep on trying to troll, even as the vulgarity of the ludicrously transparent fakery escalated!

Multiply nearly a thousand total dead and injured times all their loved ones, and you've exceeded the little social club of regulars here many times over in numbers and rightious intensity and clarity of thought. But, a 'Nathan' who claims to buy some silly lottery tickets for an after work diversion is what we wanna pounce on, lest posting that somehow hurts the reputation of the forum. Ya, sure, lets be all over that one firstly & foremost, you betcha.

And so be it, it's not gonna change, so with occasional useful interruptions of actual information by some relatively quiet & noble selflessly helpful & exceptionally competent souls lurking & sometimes responding to requests for quantitative/analytical help, most of the time the most useful function of the forum side of the site is and will remain:



Take the messenger out back & whack him for saying it, if you wish. But it is what it is, that's what it is, and the sure bet of keeping on with basically the same-ol, same-ol will guarantee remaining the butt of jokes to almost everyone who sees the forum, regardless whether you choose to be aware of it, whatever the required internal make believe self-image might be.

I can't imagine what you chose to edit out of that. Or why you would continue to frequent the site, with such a rag-tag bunch of misfits here. I would think, sadly, because I've enjoyed you, you would find it much more to your liking among our detractors and mockers.
