I am just curious to know about yourself. Do you walk in the morning? If so, how much time do you spend in the morning walk? Myself spend 1-2 hours daily?
Thank you!!!

No problem! 5am is really early session in the morning. I get up from bed at 6am and then go for walk.

Ah. I forgot he started the gaming thread that I hijacked.
Walked for 10 years, bunch of miles, some spectacular country.
Then I started running, 5 years. Threw in whitewater kayaking, mountaineering..
Then biking, couple years.
Then ran into WoO.
Now couch potato.....
Maybe I'll rake leaves tomorrow.....
Unicycles scare me.

Don't give up - try carrying a couple of dumbbells with you as you enjoy the outdoors etc. I do various curls as I'm walking (usually 10 reps & 10 sets) with 2 15lb DB's. After my brain tumor surgery in 2001 I vowed never to allow myself to get out of shape or weak in my old age. IMO Why join an expensive gym when I can do the same thing outside in the fresh air?
I walk miles each day as my primary exercise and have done so for almost a decade now. Carrying weights in your arms or around your ankles is a horrible idea. It can cause all sorts of big physical problems. The way you walk, your pace, how you swing your arms and legs, is not something you want to mess with. You can cause big joint and muscle problems, strains, sprains or worse. Do any sort of Google search on this and you will see how bad this advice is. For example:Quote: HeySlickDon't give up - try carrying a couple of dumbbells with you as you enjoy the outdoors etc.

If you want to carry weight, either carry it on your back or waist. Vertical weight that doesn't impact the natural motion of your arms and legs is the best way to improve the cardio effect. But even this doesn't make much of a difference unless you combine it with an incline of some sort.
A few years back, it was the fashion to walk with 2 pound hand weights while swinging the arms very close to the body. You don't see that much any more. It certainly increases the cardio value from walking. But there's nothing like a ruptured vertebrae to bring a certain sense of reality to what that is really doing to your body.

I guess I must be the exception - I've been doing my route for well over 12 years and, I've NEVER had any of the problems you mentioned above. FYI if my route is as harmful as you mentioned, how is it that I'm able to continue doing so? FYI I know my limitations and I don't exceed them, if I do, I pull out the teeter board and it relieves most if not all of my aches and pains.
Just because an activity is not harmful to you does not mean it's not ill-advised. Not everyone who smokes cigarettes gets cancer, right?Quote: HeySlickI guess I must be the exception - I've been doing my route for well over 12 years and, I've NEVER had any of the problems you mentioned above. I used to pshaw going to a gym as well and found plenty of exercise outside. After living on an island with really lousy weather I learned that if a person grabs a gym bag and gets in their car, they are likely to go to the gym and get some good exercise. For me, exercise equipment around the house ends up being a place to hang laundry.
After enough disc damage and being in physical therapy several times, I have found water therapy to be the least shock on my joints, and next to that I walk as many days per week as I can make myself. I like trails versus asphalt. I need my hands free. Each to their own, but whatever it takes, don't atrophy.
I also notice although our weather is great, right now sunny and 58, I don't see many others out walking? I have lately starting carrying when walking. Concealed carry.

What a RIDICILOUS and ABSURB comparison. FYI my advise is not ill-fated, I only suggested 2FALT to try it. I'm well known in my community for doing what I do and, I'll continue doing so.

I have a 'Teeter' inversion board & it works wonders whenever I over do it and the *disc bugle out a little.
edit/add
*The disc is a combination of strong connective tissues which hold one vertebra to the next and acts as a cushion between the vertebrae. The disc is made of a tough outer layer called the "annulus fibrosus" and a gel-like center called the "nucleus pulposus."

The teeter looks best to me with lumbar support and easy ankle grips, what model do you have and have you tried others?
I really liked my "Ab lounger" and doing crunches, but right now I have two hernias [not from that] and it isn't advised. I'm kinda bummed about it, I like core exercises. I guess I crave, "the burn"? : )
My wife's dad was the absolute measure of a good man. He died lately from heart failure but, until two weeks before he passed, he went to the gym or swam at least 3 days per week. He was fit, just drew a bum heart. Made it to 84, and loved working out.
I am absolutely convinced that exercise is necessary for longevity. I don't see fat people live to a hundred, not morbidly obese anyway. My natural doc says to fast, at least once per week, he thinks we die because our organs wear out processing what we eat.
Makes sense according to study's on rat's anyway.

If you dodge all the other bullets, then yes, cancer in one form or another will get you.
What, you thought you might be immortal?

I don't think they have different models - IMO the Teeter brand is the best one by far - I bought mine about 6 or 7 years ago. If my memory serves me well, I believe I paid around 400 dollars - again, by far the best one on the market and well worth it. Check it out online.

That got a little complicated as to who said what and when.
But somewhere in there I heard the advice 'to fast once a week'.
I am going to try that, fast once a week, at the tables for 24 hours straight, if I can get permission.
Do not look for an update, my boss/wife trusts you guys even less than I do..;-)

It could also be this common problem that some men face as they get old-er - beginning in the 40's.

You might want to be careful with that. This can be a very negative thing concerning rising and dropping blood sugars. My partner who is borderline diabetic or pre-diabetic as they call it has been having headaches for a while. Last week his doctor told him that our eating routine of one big meal usually in the early afternoon, with a couple of other very smaller meals, is about the worse thing he can do (fasting would be even worse). It wreaks havoc with your blood sugars. The advice was to eat at least 4 smaller meals throughout the day, which is going to take some effort and a complete change in our schedule, but that's what new years are for....a new beginning. :)
Now about this walking....Not only do I not walk in the morning, but except for walking the casino floors I have really gotten away from any walking. I used to walk and run regularly, play softball on a team and volleyball in the park on a Sunday afternoon. Now I get almost no exercise. I mean, I get someone to drive me, if I am going a quarter mile to CVS to grab some M & M's. Considering the purchase, the least I could do is walk there. lol. It has only mildly effected my weight, I am about 162, up about 10-12 pounds from my ideal weight, but I see a tiny little roll of "extra" when I sit. :/
But again, 2 days from a new year, it is a good time to make some changes. :)
That is, unless your definition of "early morning" is "any time before 7 AM", in which case you can add "from the Rio's main entrance to the eastbound bus stop across the street".
