I find it amusing that someone complains a board is quiet... by posting on another board.

No. I drove past the Bicycle Casino a couple days ago and was tempted for a moment to stop in. But I was tired and a bit hung over and kept driving.
I was planning on coming out to Vegas at the end of May but I may postpone my trip. My mom is coming out towards the end of this year to visit me in LA and I may come out to the Strip for a day or two with her.

Things may pick up after Valentines Day. I think I speak for most men that we hate that day. If I were single a month or less before I would stay that way until after it passed, just to avoid having to deal with it.

Valentine's Day is a made-up holiday designed to sell jewelry, flowers, and candy, along with movies and expensive meals. They do that by making everyone subject to it feel inadequate, unloved, and lonely by comparison to some idealized commercialized couple. Please, folks, don't let advertisers make you feel like crap; it's your choice in the end whether you do or not, but at least know you're being deliberately manipulated to think that.

You really think most men hate that day? We should create a poll and see. How can anyone hate it, it's the most romantic day of the year!

I could never have put it half as well.

Add to that that men feel put to an unpassable test. As far as I'm concerned, Valentine's Day is a relationship killer.

There is nothing about the 14th February that makes it any more or less romantic than any other day. It's up to the people involved to make it romantic, and doing it because everyone else is... blegh, that's about as romantic as pink cupcakes with 'I WuV U' on it.

This whole discussion strongly reminds me of a song performed by Bob Malone, a piano player and singer I have had the pleasure of seeing perform a few times. I found a video of his performance, apparently captured by cell phone. The resolution looks terrible on my phone, but I don't know how it will look/sound on a computer.

I think both those of you who detest Valentine's Day and those who love romance will enjoy it.

I got scathed this time. I announced I was heading off for some errands in a manner that discourages "spouse coming along". One of those errands was getting a V-day card. But I had a bunch of stuff to do and it took me a while to get gone. Then the wife, noticing I hadn't gone yet, wants to go and I've forgotten I don't want her to. A situation hard to handle anyway, once I realized it was going to mess me up [snow storm meant last chance going up in smoke], I blew it and lost my temper a bit. I just blurted out that she might as well pick the card herself, or somesuch. She was mad at me the rest of the day.

Just goes to show what a minefield these things are.

Darn it, Buzz, you forgot the smiley face which gives many a free pass. I don't believe that you meant to insult anyone, rather you were trying to emphasize your point much like using the word duh. This seems like one of those things that you would say to someone's face resulting in a good laugh from both parties. I don't know if HotBlonde feels the same way but she seems like a reasonable person.

Perhaps that and your longevity were taken into consideration as this was treated as a first offense. Enjoy Valentine's Day with your family. At least they won't suspend you if they haven't by now. :-) See, smiley face. :-)

Ouch. Getting done at work at 4:00a.m. certainly has its advantages in that regard, except I forgot V-Day completely last year (or was it the year before?). My wife actually didn't really care one way or another that I had forgotten it, but I still don't make a habit of forgetting stuff like that, no reason to press my luck.

Okay guys, if wasting money on cards is your thing, I have an idea. When you purchase that special card for that special person buy a few different ones. Stash them until you need one, hope the Alzheimer's doesn't kick in and you're good to go.

I was just about to take the Alzheimer's quiz but I can't remember where I put it. I thought it was next to my car keys. Has anyone seen my keys?

My wife and I have seen this terrible disease working at one of our volunteer jobs. Sometimes you just have to try to have a sense of humor.

My grandmother had Alzheimer's. However, I was living in San Diego at the time and would only hear stories about how bad the disease was getting. There was a period of time where I could not believe it as, when they put her on the phone with me, she was always lucid and knew who I was, asked me pertinent questions, etc. However, a story Iw as told by a family member was that a waiter at dinner asked her who she wanted her coffee and she replied "Light, like my men" (maybe she was paraphrasing the movie "Airplane" but who knows LOL)

Nah, that's why we contrived March 14th (no, not pi day) as Steak and a bj day...that levels the field ;-)

No, March 14 is pi day only! You may eat steaks on that day, but they should be round in shape.

What is romance? Or better worded: what is love? Baby don't hurt me (or make so damn expensive $200/hr adds up)

When a man is romantic towards a woman it is equivalent to when a woman talks dirty to a man. Both acts make the opposite sex swoon. It's done for the other person to enhance your experience together. Romance is also chivalry. What woman doesn't like a chivalrous man?!

One of us will have to post something more substantial if we wish to debate the matter. Perhaps it is different in different areas, but the majority of the women in this area in the 18-29 range are unwed Mothers, many of the fathers are relatively unheard from most of the time, ergo, I conclude that they do not like chivalrous men.
