BTW, for those of you who weren't there, at dinner Friday night I asked for a show of hands of everyone who had ever been suspended from this forum. The majority of the attendees raised their hands.

Well in defense of the suspended, this is one of the tightest moderated forums I have been a part of. I have definitely toned down some of my responses here to avoid comments deemed worthy of a suspension.

I don't remember that conversation, and I surely hope that's not me you are referring to. I did make comments many moons ago about that thread and how it had turned so nasty, but I don't recall saying anything against you.

This weekend I said that thread was like a bar that should be shut down NOT because the owner is breaking the law but because people keep getting shot there. I thought you rather agreed that the discussion had gotten out of hand.

It was not you I was referring to. It was someone who was at Casino Royale. I'll just leave it at that. I'm not trying to out him or anything, I was just bringing it up cause it was weird to be face-to-face with someone who was just very, very mean to me. It's been so long I don't remember the specifics of what he said and I have no desire to go back and look at any of the remarks. I have been in a very positive frame of mind lately and unless alcohol is involved I usually remain that way. I don't have any interest in fighting with anyone.

But on a side note, Doc, I remember you saying how you thought the HB Challenge thread should be locked down. But I agree with the Wizard (and if I can say it respectfully as well) that if someone is not interested in a thread then they don't have to read it.

Good grief, it was me.

Just say it.

"Mr. V."

See how easy that was?

I showed up "in real life" and was reasonably conversational with you and others; wow, what a surprise, huh?

Not bad for a lone wolf sort of guy, I suppose.

As for what I said, it was akin to "I'm not your enemy. It's just the internet."

You must have noted that I never apologized to you in person: why should I?

As for my comments about you on the HB thread: that was very moderate compared to what I've seen (and written, truth be told) on other boards.

I arrived early for the lunch and stayed through the conclusion of the trivia contest; things were winding down at that point and I wanted to get to Casino Royale and stake out a spot for craps; I was the first group member to arrive at the casino.

I was at CR when you arrived, and I stayed for awhile after you left.

Aaron and I did not have any problems: neither of us said a whole lot to one another but the vibe was OK at CR: we played standing next to each other, stick right, just two guys at the craps table gambling, with only the usual craps table light banter between us.

No big deal, really, and dice setting was not a subject of conversation.

Thank you Nareed for setting up the lunch at Sugar Factory, and for the unusual (for me) candies from Mexico: tasty, and not at all what I am used to.

Doc, you can post my picture; as I told you in Las Vegas I'm not concerned about that.

Thanks for asking though.

There was no attempt by me to avoid the group pic, no calculated effort of evasion.

For those with a morbid sense of curiosity about what I look like (and you know who you are), Doc will post the photo taken at Sugar Factory when it becomes possible for him to do so.

No doubt when looked at in the right light you'll see horns, a forked tail, and a black heart.

What happens in Vegas ...

No, I never play the darkside. I would have been betting with him and cheering him on. Winning from the darkside is no fun.

Unforunately I had to miss the meeting. I was asked not to show, and I think because I didn't you all had a much better time. That's all I want to say, but... Maybe next time.

Well Alan I missed it too. I'm not one for group casino play, I learned a long time ago that being at the tables with a large group will cost you money. Now as for Ahigh , he loves putting on a show for everybody and is right in his element when he has an audience.

It would have been fun to put a few faces to the handles on the site, I wanted to met MrV as I get his sense of humor, where a lot of readers wouldn't. If your going to post on some of these boards you have to have a thick skin, some of the things that are written are not right. I'm not here to cut someone down, I want everybody to understand what you are up against when playing craps.
I much ratter give our great fiction writers on the game of craps compliments on their fiction writing skills.

Everyone provided a user name and a first name. Now, whether all of the first names were real, I don't know and don't much care. Giving a user name makes the connection easier. First names are just easier to pronounce than something like rdw4potus or MrV. I didn't ask for last names, but I suspect those that I don't already know would have been provided if I had asked. Everyone has seemed quite open at each of the three WoVCons.

Just to put a little cherry on top of this story, apparently the pit doesn't communicate very well with marketing. Not only have all my points and offers remained on the BConnected website, but I also just got an email asking me to fill out a survey about my recent visit. The email had a subject line of "Your recent visit to Main Street Station," so I was half expecting it to contain a survey about how I liked their back-off procedures :)

I have some limited access for a little while.

I would like to thank all those who attended the WoVCon lunch. It's your presence and company that has made this little tradition a great success for three years running.

Special thanks to Doc for undertaking the role of official WoVCon photographer, to the Wizard for the trivia contest, and to Paisiello for the coffee.

I was really glad to be reacquainted and to meet old friends, and new ones as well. Hopefully you all had as god a time as I did.

How many Yummies would you give the lunch?

It was good, not great.

I had a Mediterranean salad, and oddly it was chopped up pretty finely.

Most of the attendees seem to have had burgers and fries, and nobody went "wow" or "yuck."

Typical fare, I suppose.

The wait staff bordered on the incompetent though, confusing drink orders.

Still, it was fun, and that's really what counts.

I went for the Chicken and Waffles which was quite delicious, but anytime I get them, I'm always full before I can finish the last bits of chicken. Could have used a bit more syrup, but still pretty tasty. I give it 3 Yummies.

I had the Sugar Factory burger, which was a bacon cheeseburger with a white chocolate bun and a tangy sauce. Even with the sauce, the balance was a little too sweet from the bun. Still, it was very good, and definitely unique. 3 Yummies sounds about right.

On a non-food topic, I thought I would mention the Sunday evening entertainment my wife and I wound up at. This might be of particular interest to those of you who like the downtown area.

We had initially planned to see Zarkana, the fairly new Cirque show at the Aria. I texted a few folks who had been in the group on Saturday, but no one showed interest in joining us. Probably a good thing, since we changed plans.

We went to see the Scintas performing in the little showroom upstairs at the D. We had seen them twice before, at the Rio in 2006 and at the Hilton in 2008.

The group is mostly the Scinta family (and some friends), but sister Chrissie is experiencing some health problems, so they have a very talented fill-in taking her place. The show consists of music, comedy, impersonations, and a lot of ad libs and audience interactions. It is a very high energy show that is enjoyable even for geezers like us -- perhaps especially geezers like us.

There is a review of the show here by Robin Leach.

If you plan to be downtown and want 75 minutes of fun, give the Scintas a try. The show is very reasonably priced.

At 100x odds for $5 line bets, no, no one took full odds. I was considering doing it, just once, prior to the trip, but the craps tables had really beaten me up on this trip, so I wasn't going to put $500 down on one number.

I don't believe anyone took 20x odds at $3 either, although that wouldn't have stood out all that much.

In retrospect I wish I had made a big odds bet, maybe $200 or $300 just for the hell of it. Oh well, next time.

EDIT: To answer your first question, we had probably half of the lunch crew at craps. I believe we had 7 or 8 WoVers at one end of the table at one point. A few wandered down there but didn't feel like elbowing in. It was pretty crowded.

EDIT2: And of course to your last question, I don't believe anyone won money. Aaron was doing all kinds of crazy stuff, put bets maybe (or maybe they were just regular come bets with odds), I dunno but he was turning numbers on and off for the come-out roll willy-nilly. With all of that madness he may have had a winning session. The table was "cold" to use the parlance of the people so to speak, so it was rough. I lost a couple hundred bucks.

Me too.

IIRC, at one point I made a 10X odds bet, unsuccessfully, and given that the table was not conducive to my style of play, I left after 45 or so minutes: I refuse to stand at a craps table and get whacked.

Aaron was rebuying in when I left, but hey, he easily could have rebounded.

FWIW, nobody demonstrated the slightest scintilla of "dice influence" that I observed.

No surprise.

Overall I won almost $700 for the trip, which ain't chopped liver.

High point: seeing Fleetwood Mac (comped) at MGM Grand.

Lord, Mick Fleetwood can pound those skins ...

I had been having some difficulties with the D70, which was about eight years old. Right before we left on a cruise last October, I bought a D3200 body, with plans to use the two lenses I already had.

At our first port stop, I encountered the exact same problem, and I realized then that it was a lens problem rather than an issue with the D70 body.

I got the lens repaired after we got home. I use the D3200 for everything now, keeping the D70 as a backup. They are similar, but there are a few differences I haven't adjusted to completely.

My host let me use the freeplay (part of the offer, including room) to "pay" for the two tickets.

Sat toward the rear, but with good sight lines, and not bad sound.

Look for the "extra" musicians behind the band adding additional sound reinforcement, e.g. a drummer, a guitarist, and a guy on keyboards.

I had to get online to make a credit card payment. I thought I'd take advantage and post a little here.

I had a good evening yesterday. i haven't been gambling much because of the length of my stay (still have 8 days left!!), so instead I've been shopping (I found the perfect bra for me) and sight-seeing, and writing a bit even. Yesterday I wanted to play craps. Unfortunately one craps table at 4Q was full and the other was empty (I don't like to play at an empty table for various reasons). so I headed over to the Ditz to play nickel Loose Deuces.

I went up a bit, then down, then up, then hit 4 Deuces for a $125 hand pay. I kept playing until I got back to my original buy-in. On cashing out, the machine did not have enough coins, which required a return visit by the slot attendant. When she got there she said "I thought you'd hit the royal now."

I headed back to the 4Q and now there was room at one table. I had an odd roll in which i hit no points, but made about $50 from place and come bets and a couple of sevens on the come out. Then the table grew colder than an Antarctic summer and I went down to $60 r so from my $100 buy-in. I was pondering leaving and decided to risk $15 more. The shooter proceeded to have a rather good roll. I won four points, several place and come bets. Finally he sevened out and I left up $115

not bad for an evening's entertainment :)

Now I'm going to have dinner at the Fremont buffet (yes, I know, so don't bring it up).

Whats wrong with the Fremont buffet, I eat there
when I'm Downtown. Its good for the price, what
more do you want. Try the chicken fried steak at
Binions cafe, its to die for. The one I had melted in
my mouth. Get a coupon book from 4 Queens and
you can get 2 for 1.

I like the bento at the coffee shop at The Cal, the one downstairs by the entrance.

Very tender beef, chicken katsu, spam and rice.

Outstanding.

So I finally got home Friday evening and had time Saturday evening to get the photos off my camera and cropped to post in this thread. Sorry that I can't make everyone look as good as they do in real life.

As reported earlier, on Friday afternoon of WoVCon ]I[ weekend, a subgroup met for craps at Main Street Station, visited Fremont Street and the D, and returned to Main Street Station for the buffet. Not all of even the subgroup were present for all of these activities. On the way from craps to Fremont Street, we stopped at the historic train cars parked along Main Street and got a group photo in front of Buffalo Bill Cody's car.

Left to right it's Nareed, HotBlonde, rdw4potus, tupp, and Doc.

Then on Saturday, we met for lunch at the Sugar Factory in Paris Las Vegas, where we dawdled over our meals while waiting for the Wizard to get his tire problems resolved. I took a few photos during lunch, but in the dining room there was no way to get a photo of everyone together. Here are the individual shots:

Ahigh

Doc and Mrs. Doc

DRich (and a partially anonymous AcesAndEights in the WoO shirt)

HotBlonde

HotBlonde embarrassed to be sitting next to MidwestAP, who was trying to maintain his anonymity.

Nareed

paisiello and trivia-winner loach

rdw4potus and MrV

SONBP2 and tupp

Now the scheduling of WoVCon ]I[ missed the Wizard's birthday by a couple of days, but when he finally arrived, we did get a chance to commemorate that occasion, too.

The Wizard, yet another year older ;-)

After lunch, we got most of the group gathered on the Paris Las Vegas casino floor outside of the restaurant. You have already seen the Wizard's version of this photo, but here is mine that includes me, too.

HotBlonde, MidwestAP (hiding), Wizard, Ahigh, AcesAndEights, tupp, loach, rdw4potus, paisiello, Doc, and Nareed.

Thats MrV? Are you same MrV that was on GG for years?
If so, what happened to your posts, you had 5000 and
only a handful are in the archives. I tried to PM you
and you don't accept them.
