When does CA-108 (Sonora pass) close for the season? My google searches keep telling me that it opens in late spring, but not when it closes for the winter season...

I have no direct knowledge. For those unfamiliar, this is the road leading to Yosemite from the east. I was going to go there for spring break a few years ago, and was stressed out if this road would be open, but I ended up not getting a camping site, so the trip was called off. However, from what I was told, it depends on when the winter snow melts. I think it could be anywhere from March to May, depending on the snowfall that year.

It closes basically when it snows out. In other words, they don't plow the road until they do it, once during the spring. So if there was a big blizzard in October, that's when the road closes.

It opens sometime in May (4th - 28th ) in the last 8 seasons
The date that it closes is much more variable, but it was open until January last year
2004/05: 17 Oct (one of the wettest Octobers on record)
2006/07: 16 Nov
2010/11: 22 Nov
2009/10: 01 Dec
2005/06: 05 Dec
2007/08: 10 Dec
2008/09: 14 Dec
2011/12: 21 Jan
The official word is that they don't plow the road. Once there is a snowstorm, that's it until Spring. But unofficially, the local businesses have been pressuring the State not to close the road in October.
