The run to this point for the Kings has been incredible, no team has been this successful in the playoffs since the 80's. Have fun, I'm sure it's a great atmosphere.

The Kings deserve this. Not sure how they were only the 8 seed, but they took care of my Blues like the Blues were the 8 seed.

They had some slumps during the regular season but they came to form in the playoffs. I'm glad it went to game 5 because it would of sucked if the Kings won it on that garbage penalty. I'm confident they will win the series whether it is in NJ or LA.

Goalie John Quick attended High School in neighboring town. I was hoping for a Rangers-Kings Series for the Cup. I couldn't lose.

Devils won last nite so its Kings in 5 :o)

I was assuming Quick was Canadian , but no.

The Devils avoided a humiliating place in the record book? I think I heard that they would have been only team to have been swept in final round of Stanley Cup. Did I hear right?

I instantly knew that someone fed you a line on that one...my Washington Capitals were unceremoniously dumped from the Finals in 4 straight in 1998. I still feel the sting of that loss...

I checked and that actually was the last sweep and came as the last of four straight sweeps (Devils, Avalance, and Red Wings x 2). I think there were a total of 5 sweeps in the 1990's. There were sweeps in just about every decade (one or two mostly) except the 2000's...

Being an avid sports fan (Not a Kings fan mind you) but this run the Kings have made in the playoffs is something I don't think I have seen in my lifetime. It is one thing when the Packers a few seasons ago won the Super Bowl as the 6th and final seed in the NFC (although they were favored in all 4 playoff games), being the 8 seed, winning best of 7 series left and right, is perhaps the greatest team performance I have ever witnessed in the playoffs.

Apparently these Kings are road warriors, and home cupcakes. 10 - 0 on the road, 5 - 3 at home. I can't wait til next year when they interview a defending champion King and he tells us how important it is during some regular season game how important it is for them to get that 'home ice advantage' in the playoffs...

One game at a time. I've been crushed by 4 straight wins before when the Red Sox pulled off the impossible and took out the Yanks after the New Yorks took the first 3. Time to flip that around and hand the Kings their first road loss and shake their confidence going back to LA. Even if the Kings manage to pull it out in Newark, I'm happy that the Devils got to avoid being completely embarrassed. The Devils have certainly overachieved this playoff series as well and that is the beauty of hockey for me. A 6 seed and an 8 seed in the finals. There have only ever been two 8 seeds to even make it past the first round in the NBA. There's nothing like playoff hockey.

You are right... never swept.

And continues to be unswept as of last night's game. :(

I had a lot of fun. When the Devils scored their first goal I was like "Oh, no!" When the Kings quickly evened up the score I was so happy. And you know it went downhill after that. It would've been cool to have been there amongst all the fans rooting and celebrating had the Kings won last night. But it wasn't meant to be. I still had fun. You can't beat the energy and excitement that was there regardless.

I did break my diet yesterday. Ate my usual Wednesday breakfast of eggs and veggies then took the day off, so to speak, and indulged in alcoholic beverages and appetizers and such. Didn't go overboard on the food at all, but did a bit on the booze, as I'm feeling "rough" today, as Switch with his cute British self would put it. I slept in to stave off the slight headache I had earlier this morning. I'm still feeling a little hung over, and was considering not eating at all today to make up for the additional calories I consumed yesterday, but my hang over is making me feel like I should eat something to feel better. I didn't get crazy drunk or anything, I have noticed as I'm getting older my body doesn't recover too easily from my alcoholic consumptions.

I had got to hang out with several different groups of guys yesterday. Problem is most, if not all, were married but wanted to fool around with me anyway. I told them all "Hell no!" because Homey don't play that (bonus points if you know where Homey don't play that comes from... no cheating!!!) As I told in another thread before, years ago I had gotten propositioned by Scott Melanby of the St. Louis Blues but responded in the same way cuz he was married. He was cute though, and it would've been cool to have slept with an NHL player (I fooled around with one once and he literally had legs of steel). Looking back maybe I should've slept with Melanby. Oh well.

Oh, and it was funny last night being told "Shhhhh!" when the phone would ring and it was this one guy's wife calling. Another guy pulled me in to his patio table at Trader Vic's when I was walking by and kept fork-feeding me tuna tartare. My kind of man! Don't remember if he was married too or not but thought it was funny when he wanted me to go back to his room with him, even though his buddy who we were eating with would be sharing the room with him. Hell no again!! "Bring a friend!" Um, no. They weren't even cute anyway.

I think it means the bookies expect more people to want to bet on the Kings. Therfore you have to lay $175 to win $100.

Seriously, I've read the Wizard's articles on sports betting several times, but I can't keep the information down.

I hate American-style Odds, but yep, -175, means lay $175 to win $100. This makes them the favourite for the bookies (offering a 63% chance of them winning). The Devils are bet $100 to win $155 (offering a 39% chance to win). And yes they don't add up to exactly 100%, that's the bookies over-round and profit.

EB wouldn't gripe. He's probably at home with a beer and a pizza, watching it in his room.

After game 2 of the first round of the LA vs VAN series, I picked the Kings to go to the Cup. I'm totally oblivious of anything west coast in all sports, but 2 games showed me all I needed.

How so?

Edit: Or is that just a general opinion of displeasure?

Double Edit: And with this, my Leafs will be the sole possesor of the longest drought between Cups (last won in 66-67, same year the Kings became an NHL team) I guess next year is my year then, yes?

One penalty in the first period shouldn't decide the Stanley Cup. A 4 minute double minor should be the max.

It's also general displeasure.

Just checking =) I look at it as one guy shouldn't have been so unhinged as to have blown the Cup in the first period. I'm one of the biggest proponents of self regulating, old school hockey, but that was an easy call. The huge fine and suspension that will be coming, that I won't much care for.

appis, I don't follow soccer much (World Cup being the exception), but there seems to be an area of contention in every sport I follow. I think a lot (at least in my sports cases, and IMO) has to do with the advances in medical science and realizing just how much damage big hits do to one's brain. Hockey's been diluted, football gets closer to two-hand-touch everyday, and NASCAR lost most of it's badass cowboy mentality. Atheletes are no longer "warriors", rather delicate precision instruments. I'm ALL for protecting these men and women's medical futures, but it wish it could be done with losing the warrior-hero essence.

I was born and raised in LA and don't know anyone who is a hockey fan. I happened to be at a bar full of people when the Ducks won the championship and no one even cared or noticed the TV screens. There was a guy at the bar on business from Boston and he was shocked. He kept going on and on how it's a shame no one in Southern California cares and about how Boston would be partying if the Bruins won. Having said all that, I don't think LA can be considered a small market.
