Sept. 4-9 - not sure where, maybe Bally's
Nov. 20-25 - not sure where
What can I say, they offered a suite.
I doubt their suites match up with major strip properties, or even Golden Nugget.

I like the Plaza, the rooms are really
nice since they bought all the furniture
from that casino that never opened.

We stayed there in November and the rooms have all been remodeled. I didn't like the way the bathroom was set up, but I don't spend much time there anyway. The bed was comfortable and it had a nice flat screen tv.
I'm anxious to see what they call a suite. The Rio is supposedly an all suite hotel. But they are just huge rooms. But they have refrigerators! A perk that every room should have. Along with a coffee maker. The suite at The Plaza supposedly has all of that.
I was surprised also about an odor people mentioned that I didn't smell. I'm going to see if I can smell it this time. People here said it was real strong and I never smelled a thing. My wife didn't notice either, and she gets sick easily from bad odors.
May 18th - 21st Ballys.

I was comped a suite there last year. It was just a slightly larger room with a larger door, or maybe it was a double door. I don't recall if it had a fridge and coffee maker. Hopefully you get a better suite than I did.

I stayed at the mini and regular suites at the Plaza.
Mini suite has a little bar area next to the bathroom.
They have coffee makers, the kruiegs or whatever they are called, I never use them as I don't drink coffee. They have fridges, usually stocked with bottled water maybe 4 or so. I didn't like the TV's since they were on the small side, and it's hard to flip through channels since I have no idea what channel is what since there are no displays, but I'm sure you aren't coming to Vegas to watch SVU reruns like I do when I do a staycation. The suite looks like they gutted 2 rooms into one room, with a door for the bedroom and everything. Bathrooms and showers on both sides as I remember. Never had any problems with hot water (I hate when I can't take a hot shower). The "living room" has a couch with pretty comfortable chairs. AC units on both sides.
I've heard South tower is better than North, but I've never stayed at the North tower. South tower is above the parking elevator, sportsbook, and the pizza place. North tower is next to front desk.
It seems pretty easy to get a comp there, as I've only been downgraded to a mini-suite once from my host for some reason, and I stay there a lot.
As far as the smell I think there's something they pump in the casino, but it was mild compared to the Palms. I've always thought Palms had the most fragrant scent out of any casino I've been in, for better or worse.
I'm still mad about the sushi place closing, it was a great place to use my food comps I got every week. Now it's Oscars, or Subway/Zabbas/Pizza place, with not much in between lol.

Good description Dj. Ill add that the rooms have a 50- 70's retro/swanky feel with some old b&w vegas pictures. I really like it. Most rooms are boring but not at the plaza. Average GN rooms suck IMO. Also the Plazas check in lounge has been updated and it's fairly nice for downtown. Free fast WiFi as well.
Thursday through Saturday nights we will be staying at the Gold Coast. It will be our first stay there, although we have played and dined there quite a few times. We would also stay there on Sunday night, but for some reason I don't fully comprehend, they claim to be completely sold out on a Sunday night. If that changes by the time we arrive, we may extend our stay there by one night. For now, we have Sunday night reserved across the street at the Rio, but I really don't like changing hotels just for our last night in town.
On that Monday morning, we will head out by car to Lake Tahoe, where we will spend three nights at Harvey's before driving back to Las Vegas for the flight home. Yes I know, I know, it would be much easier to fly from Vegas to Reno and fly home from there, but our flights are booked with a companion certificate (i.e., free ticket for my wife) that prohibits multi-stop and open-jaw itineraries.
That whole Las Vegas & Tahoe trip is not really at the front of our minds right now, though. Tomorrow morning (way too early) we hop a flight to Ft. Lauderdale, where we will board the Celebrity Silhouette for a two-week trans-Atlantic cruise to Portugal, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, flying home from Amsterdam. We have never been to any of those places except Ft. Lauderdale (other than once very briefly back in 1983 on a flight from Athens, Greece back to Atlanta when we made connections through the Brussels airport.) We're looking forward to this first trip very much and will postpone our anticipation of the Nevada trip until we get back in the States. After this evening I will be away from the forum for these next two weeks.

You are going to have an amazing time! 2 years ago today I left on a transatlantic cruise to Barcelona, ending up in Paris. Best cruise ever. Watch out for the mid-Atlantic seas, though, and have some seasickness remedy (raspberry Dramamine) available to take before day 5 starts (take it proactively) and for the next day or two if you're AT ALL susceptible; 90% of my ship's passengers and 50% of the crew called in sick that day (40 ft. seas). Also, take a case of bottled water in your luggage; you'll use it up on the way and save yourself the annoyance of paying $3+/bottle on board. (Can't remember what you like to drink, but do the same with Coke or other soft drinks. Can't take alcohol, but can take the others.)

I stayed there last year and was
sitting in the lounge area waiting
for my room. I kept nodding off
from the long flight and a security
guy kept waking me up because
it was against the rules to sleep
there. What a crock, I was a guest.
Other than that, I had no complaints
about the Plaza, other than they're
too cheap to get display towers for
the roulette tables.

I always thought there were "friends" for rent in Vegas?
Of course, but some friend seeking visitors & recent arrivals may feel isolated because they're not familiar with local customs and all the regional cultural differences from how those things were done back home:Quote: BozI always thought there were "friends" for rent in Vegas?

Quote: zippyboyI'll be staying at Excalibur June 7-12. That's a Sunday-Friday.
This date is coming up soon, and I just bought a GoPro Hero4 Black series to document some fun activities. Planning to head out to race a Lamborghini around the track at the speedway for $300 for 5 laps, and take the Sky Jump off the Stratosphere for $120 wearing the camera. Anyone think of anything else fun to film?
Anyone else with a GoPro have any advice for a newbie? I'm already a little disappointed with the camera interface using my HTC-One (camera seems to lose the wifi connection to phone too easily). And plugging the SD card into my Mac laptop to transfer movies has eluded me...seems to require membership in iCloud or some such nonsense.
Advice? Ideas? Anyone want to meet up?
I'm not sure what they are doing with them goats.Quote: DrawingDeadOf course, but some friend seeking visitors & recent arrivals may feel isolated because they're not familiar with local customs and all the regional cultural differences from how those things were done back home:

Mon 9/28 to Sat 10/3. Tentatively Linq & Golden Nugget.
Still shopping flights for Raving Table Game Confernce, but it looks like it will also be Mon - Sat.
Quote: beachbumbabsA guided tour of whatever the Bellagio conservatory is displaying could work.
During the 2015 Spring Fling, the conservatory was completely closed down for conversion to the summer 2015 configuration. Lots of big yellow equipment filling the area, with no guest access at all -- even reduced passageway space past the area.
Quote: beachbumbabsI think the Rio zipline or the FSE zipline might be a fun GoPro project. Maybe just walk the strip in the early evening when it's crowded and crazy with the GoPro on, see if you don't catch any random weirdness. If you have money to burn, take us inside a premium bottle club. A Venetian gondola ride could be a good film. A guided tour of whatever the Bellagio conservatory is displaying could work.
I emailed the Strat announcing my intent to wear a GoPro for their SkyJump. They wrote back saying it's forbidden. They supply their own GoPro on a wrist band for an extra $150 so I can't use my own "for safety and insurance reasons". $119 for the jump, plus $150 for the camera, the exact same camera I already have. I wrote back saying "are you f*cking serious? Who cares whose camera it is? You talked yourself out of a sale jackass" (but in a nice way). I'm awaiting reply from exoticsracing.com regarding the same question about wearing it racing a Ferrari around the track. They say on their website they supply footage for an extra $70. So we'll see.
I thought about wearing the GoPro around the strip, but it's a theft magnet, easily snatched off my head. I'm still contemplating options. The Fremont zipline is $50 for about a minute of semi-exciting travel. The Rio zipline is $30, so maybe. The $400+ bottle service in a club has got to be the biggest scam on the planet aside from organized religion.
Eidit: Just heard, exoticsracing doesn't allow GoPros either, they want to sell me their own camera experience. Scam City.

I love Flamingo, go there on every
trip. I like the floor setup and the
buffet with a window view outside.
Bugsy's dream in the desert.
Quote: mcallister3200Flamingo also arguably has the most hookers per capita trolling around, so they got that going for them.
I wouldn't know. Been going there for 40
years, always enjoy. Always has an experienced
pit. Hate the long walk from valet parking to the
floor, but I usually live thru it..
That's why I prefer DT. At 4 Queens, the room
elevators empty into the casino. Valet parking
is about a hundred feet from the floor. Fremont
St is out the door. Time is everything in Vegas,
walking is for tourists.
