Because of this happening to me more then once- I get that little bit of paranoid in my mind- and when its available I sit in the right most seat at a table (except at pai gow where it dont matter).

Im not a supersticious person- but when the result is you see what could have been- it gets me like this.

There has been more then once, and the worst time that this happened ot me was at the 3-card poker table. Im sitting at position 6 pos 5 and 7 are open- which is why I got 6. I had elbow room. a few rounds go by no big deal- a very lovely lady sits in #5 and chips in. THE VERY NEXT HAND. her first- a-k-q suited. @#$%^&^%$#$%^&* was I 1) shocked and 2) preterbed. No I wasnt really mad at her, it was just dumb luck. But I witnessed a "could have been" if I had been sitting one more spot over and made her sit to my left. 100 to 1 on the pair+ and 10 to 1 on the ante. (FYI I think I did 25 bucks each spot).

So now, more then before- not so much in BJ, and not with pai gow as stated.. but when I play 3-card or let it ride or any of those- I have a huge preferance ot sit at the far right... i can take looking at the guy next to me and see him win big easier then I can take the thought of "now see, shes go tmy cards if she had just sat one one more hand")- its silly I know, but its just something that Ill always remember... sittin there helpless as a A-K-Q of clubs was my price for a little elbow room that day. (FYI: That elbow room cost me $2,800 on a $75 bet).

The hands don't exist until they are dealt, they aren't sitting in there waiting for you. Every small event changes everything. The future isn't predestined; it is fluid, and unknowable.

My last A-K-Q suited at 3 card, I was at a place where it only paid 40-1. Damn, I should have gone to a casino where it paid 100-1! See? Faulty thinking. I wasn't there, so it doesn't matter.

And if you were sitting there and received the dealer's Mini-Royal while the lady next to you got your stinkin' Q-6-5, would you have patted her in the back and shared your win?

It's just luck. Plain and simple.

Never mind that. Try going to a casino, playing 4-card, and have a misdeal cause a player to my right not to get cards, and have the player to my left get a 4 of a kind as a result. I missed a 4 of a kind due to dealer error ($790), and I got was an "apology". It took me a while to get over that, and I didn't come back to that casino for quite some time as a result.

Once the dealer puts the cards into the shuffler's hopper, nothing can change the way they are shuffled. The person to get the third (or fourth or whatever) set of cards to be dealt will get the third set regardless of any other activity at the table.

But what DOES happen, and is the point of Maralu's post, is that a new player can change WHO gets the third hand dealt.

Therefore, when a player sits down, or gets up, it affects who gets which cards on the next deal. In some instances, it also affects the second deal.

Once a player is seated, that will change the way the cars are mucked and the sequence when the dealer puts them into the hopper.

P.S.

Boymimbo has a point too.

It affects who gets what cards. But the affect can just as easily be good for you as bad.
