Hello:
I need some advice. I am here at Bellagio Casino. I was playing blackjack at. 100 min-10,000 max table and the casino doesn't dispense a card when they switch dealers but when they saw me winning some of my money back they decided to swith dealers and dispensed a card when the casino informed us they dont dispense cards when they swap dealers. Is this legal for them to do? Can the casino decide to dispense a card if they think the player may win? Someone please help?

Also, is it legal for a casino to harass a player for SS#? They advised it was for a NEVADA state law.. Its called a title 31. Please note, I have not played 10k or cashed in 10k. I actually lost a lot of money. Why would a casino do this?

JB:  thank you for your response.  Is it legal for the dealer to dispense a card when they advised they don't? Just want to make sure I'm not being cheated. Thank you again.

You should ask the Floor about this. Inconsistent policies do exist, sometimes dependent upon "the latest misunderstood memo" or who the Pit Boss is. Speak up. Find out what they say, but do NOT think you are being cheated. They are not doing it with regard to whether you are winning or losing, because quite frankly they do not care whether you are winning or losing and prefer to follow procedures without regard to it at all. So speak up and ask, but don't worry about it. It may have been a mistake but it was not done in relation to whether you were winning or losing at all.

Dealer rotation is by schedule and there is no such thing as a "cooler" dealer sent in to make you lose. Or to make you win.

There is not? I would have to disagree with that statement I think a few (very few)casinos use this tactic, perhaps in different countries it's more prevalent. Does it work? mathematically no. Can it have a psychological effect on someone? ABSOLUTELY. I would only think this could make a person make mistakes or play erratically. It wont change anything if you don't change what your doing.

Look at how ACE really got unnerved when others took cards or dealers got switched.

If a voluptuous young woman takes the seat beside me and twirls her orange and black chips while complaining how lonely she is up her booze-filled suite, I'll get unnerved, but over a card or two????

You are not being cheated at Bellagio.

I'm curious, was it a hand-held game or a shoe game? Standard procedure at all the MGM properties I've played at (and most others as well) is to burn a card when they switch dealers at a hand-held game, but not at a shoe game. I guess they are afraid of exposing the top card when the deck gets handed off.

Also, I've never once seen them switch dealers because someone was winning. They switch dealers when it's time to switch dealers (they work timed shifts, with regularly-scheduled breaks).

How much were you ahead? I have won 5 figures in a single shoe at a casino of that size, more than once (I've actually never played at Bellagio) and as far as I could tell they did not care. Despite how it may feel when you are sitting at the table, you are not the center of their universe. They just want their shift to end so they can go home. If you are playing for hundreds (not thousands) at Bellagio I would be surprised if they even noticed you. Were you counting? Out loud? Are you a Penguins fan?

They are annoying, aren't they? THAT would have been a reason to bring in a cooler. (jk Lemieux; I grew up in Philly, and live and die with the Flyers. I live closer to Pgh now, so I have Pens season tix to get my NHL fix. My unique form of self flagellation)

They're not cheating. I don't know the Bellagio's procedure for burning a card when they change dealers, but I think most places do. Even if they didn't follow the correct procedure one time, I'm sure it was accidental and certainly wouldn't rise to the level of cheating. They had every right to ask for a SSN if more than $10,000 in cash was involved. Regarding sending in a cooler dealer, I'm sure that wasn't what was going on. It was just time for the dealer's break.

In short, I'm with the Bellagio on this one.

Yeah. When you believe that the casino is treating you special, it's either because you are doing something wrong or you believe that the casino thinks you're special and at this point, it's time for you to look in the mirror and realize that if are letting the casino bother you over switched cards, then you're invested too deep and it will affect your game.

At the Bellagio, the premiere of MGM properties, they don't care about 3 - 4 figure betting. The casino knows they've got you and their goal is for you to keep playing at their property for as long as possible by keeping you happy. The raw math will catch up to you.

I was at Rincon once playing PGP wih one guy doing 4-digit hands, pretty big for the area. After the guy left, the dealer said he was on his way out because he was specifically called in on his day off to deal for this guy since he was the senior PGP dealer.

Oh yes, there will always be special circumstances, but its not to make a player win or lose. Its usually just to avoid arguments or delays. That is why the better and more trusted dealers work the high limit room. The casino want competence when the dollar amounts start to rise.

You may recall that guy from England who put all his life's savings on one spin of a roulette wheel... you bet the casino used its longest employed and most trusted roulette dealer and I'm sure they didn't care if it was his day off or not.

With that footage sure to get public display, they did not want a new and inexperienced dealer who might get flustered or make simple mistakes, they want an experienced dealer so there are no flaps, no arguments, no bad publicity and no upset mini-whales.

I could see them making sure that they have experienced dealers to deal to big bettors, but that's just because mistakes cost the casino money and, presumably, the experienced dealer will make fewer mistakes. The casino may be ok losing the occasional hand that should have been pushed when people are betting green; not so much when people are betting thousands (especially if they are not used to that level of action)
