The subway I was at clearly advertised that you could have chips, a 2 cookies OR APPLES with your combo meal. You’d think the girl taking the order didn’t even know that apples existed. I pointed it out on the menu and she just says “We’ve never had apples”.
I stormed out of the restaurant out of anger. JK I just got chips. Subway isn’t great but they have vitamin water zero on tap. The only other places where you can get a big gulp of that sweet sweet nectar is the touchscreen Coke machines, which seem to becoming very common.

Here's some real stats.
64% of the pop is White. 39% of prisons are White.
13% of the pop is Black. 40% of prisons are Black
16% of the pop is Hispanic. 19% of prisons are Hispanic.
There are over two times as many Whites in the
pop as Blacks/Hispanics yet B/H outnumber
Whites in prison by an almost 60/40 ratio.
That's why I find the commercials misleading.

I recently played Scrabble with my two older kids and my son tried to play "guac" as a word, which my daughter protested. The argument went on for hours.
Doing a little math, from your stats, rounding to make the math simpler, 64% of the population is white non Hispanic, 16% is Hispanic, for 80% total
That means the percent of Hispanics among whites only is 20%, and non-hispanic whites 80%
Taking the FBI data that shows at least two thirds of all burglaries are committed by whites including Hispanics, multiply that by 80% to find the percentage of whites not including Hispanics, and you will come up with a number just over 50%
So, over half whites, under half everybody else.
The commercial is still playing the odds. That, and everyone who makes a commercial probably doesn't have the money to make different racial versions, and if everyone plays the odds to portray the single biggest group of crime committers, you end up with whites.

It's not a scrabble word. Neither is "dis" for "disparage", "bro" for "brother", or other shortened or contracted usages. They might all be in Urban or Slang Dictionaries or even mainstream dictionaries, but they don't belong in Scrabble.
I'm surprised he doesn't make the case that showing a white person committing a crime is akin to showing one in dreadlocks. Cultural appropriation anyone?

Bob's point is that when showing a happy event, like buying a car, signing up for cable TV, going to a restaurant, there will virtually always be a mixture of a Black man, White woman, Asian teenager, Hispanic elderly couple, etc... But when showing a negative event like robbers, they will always ONLY be white men. Even though in the real world around half are White and half are Black, the "politically correct" media would have a field day if it was two Black thugs grabbing that little White girl in the commercial. You think it is an accident that minorities are not shown as the bad guys? Really? Come on....

Unless it is comedic in nature, it will not happen. But it is not one of my pet peeves. I understand that the companies making these commercials have no appetite for portraying anything real, if that 'real' will lead to blowback from the likes of AOC and her ilk on social media. Just not worth it.

I though Bob's point, from "Yup, as usual, they were two White guys about 40, cause that's most common demo of who does home invasions." Was that it WASN'T the most common demo of who does home invasions, but the stats I found for burgaries show that it actually is.
It also isn't half white/half black. The math I did shows more than half white, about a third black, about a sixth Hispanic, and then everyone else.
If Bob wants to make a point about fair representation on television, he shouldn't be using inaccurate implications to do it. THAT is my point.

I think it is for a home security system. No one is saying it is any more or less scary as to the race of the abductors. What Bob is saying is that they will never show the bad guys as being from a minority group. Even if half the time in real life they are the perpetrators.

You can say that minorities are underrepresented in commercials, that seems pretty obvious.
The part that isn't true is that minorities commit most of the burglaries.

I've been a skier for almost 50 years, (although not much recently as I've had knee problems), and remember well when snowboarding started to get popular. With it being a winter Olympic event it's only going to get worse. But they sure eff-up the moguls.

Showing white individuals robbing a home is not altering reality. What kind of reality are you in if you think that only non-whites rob homes? The color of your skin has nothing to do with robbing homes. I would think that income level and education level are factors that play into home robbery. Yet in these commercials it is always an upper class neighborhood that is getting robbed and not a more realistic lower income neighborhood. That would make more sense if that was what you were griping about.

I’ve brought KFC (or Popeyes, same thing) on the plane, Multiple burritos, And other types of delicious foods on the plane before. A few weeks ago the lady at TSA was all confused why I’d bring a burrito through. Like bruh, “ I do what I want, don’t tread on me.” I actually didn’t say anything other than “yeah, there’s a burrito in my bag”. But I would have!
