Cynthia Nixon says she is "gay by choice" having been in long term relationships with a man and a woman. She was very specific in that she was only talking about herself, but many people were still upset because they felt that she just became a recruiting poster for people who try to change young gays back to straight.

Reminds me of the preachers saying that Gays should resist temptation. If you are not gay, what the hell is the temptation ??

I have a friend who is appalled at what Ms. Nixon said. There seem to be many such individuals, those who considered themselves straight for a large portion of their life and 'realized who they really were' later on. Where does a bisexual man or woman fit in this picture....

The way I read it, she's bisexual and prefers to be in relationships with women. Fine. I don't care. But saying she's "gay by choice" is a misnomer.

A Gay man made a good point. Something like,"To the people who say being "Gay is a choice," I'm gay, but do you really think I would willingly choose a same sex orientation that is still being ostracised, stigmatized, and harshly judged? Think about it."
