Quote: bigfoot66I live in beautiful Orange County, CA. I guess right now Harrah's Rincon in my home casino, but Rincon, Pala, and Pechanga are all very close to each other and I spend time at all three.
I was surprised to find out that Pechanga has some pretty decent VP and player's club (for SoCal). One cool thing about Pechangs is how people actually dress up to go there and it's beautiful, no doubt. Lots of dead money in the poker room on the weekend, easy pickins.

Yeah, not too tough to find 9/6 jacks or 8/5 BP. And the drive is not too bad, the speed limit is 70 mph on the 15 so you can safely go 75 and not get pulled over, and the casino is right off the freeway.

Ken
Well it goes against basic strategy which I play. 2 times the people did it against a dealer 8 and a 9. The third time was when a dealer had a 5 or 6 I can't remember exactly but he ended up hitting 21. So it upset me and threw me off that seemingly alot of people were not playing basic strategy combined with me losing my money. After the 3rd time I was steaming mad and had to leave
Quote: BeardgoatI spent some time in Joplin, MO last year after the tornadoes and made the 10 minute drive to downstream casino. Poker room was nice and had the most comfortable chairs I've ever seen in a poker room. Definitely a very nice unexpected surprise. I thought the .50 cent ante on blackjack was ridiculous though. The ante is waived with a players card though.

Quote: BeardgoatI don't understand the meaning of this link. Am I wrong in thinking you shouldn't split 20's?
The meaning of the link was that other players, while they may affect one hand, do not affect your winning/losing in the long run. In fact, and this wasn't mentioned in the link, but they only affect the outcome on a retrospective basis, anyway.
For instance, if the player before you splits tens against a dealer four (wrong!) and ends up with two hands of 20 standing pat on both, you have 13 and stand, and the dealer turns over a ten for fourteen and draws a five, you're mad at the guy for splitting (even though he doubled his win) because he made the wrong play and pulled a ten from the dealer.
In the same scenario, however, the dealer may have had a seven in the hole, so eleven total, a ten-card would have given the dealer 21, but the other player pulled them both. The dealer gets the same five making 16, but THEN the dealer draws a nine which busts him and wins you the hand. In that event, if the other guy made the right play (not splitting) you lose the hand.
The point is it doesn't matter what the guy before you does, and when it does matter, it matters only in a retrospective way. You don't even know what you want the dealer to draw, technically, until he shows his hole card which doesn't happen until player play has completed.
My home casino is generally Harrah's, although that may change depending on what the new ownership does once the sale of the property goes through. I like River City Casino lately, despite it being a longer drive from home than either Harrah's or Ameristar. River City is somewhat convenient for my from my work location though, and I seem to have better luck there then at Ameristar.
Quote: BeardgoatI see your point now... And yeah maybe if i stuck around and played 500 hands with the guy then it could all even out. But in short term when dealer bust cards are being taken in front of my eyes I don't feel like waiting for the theoretical balance to come. I see my money in the dealers tray and I get upset. I'm the anti even bob haha
Just remember that you will almost never notice it when bad play on someone else's part wins you a hand. I would also suggest not getting too upset with them, just pass them a link to WizardofOdds.com if you see them away from the table. They WANT to win just as badly as you do, it just so happens that you know how to win and they do not. They're not trying to screw you.

I guess old habits die hard ;)
(Sorry, I couldn't help myself)
Red Rock or Rampart. Gold Coast, Palms, or South Point when they make it irresistible or I'm down there anyway.

I've never gotten mad to the point of actually saying anything about how bad of a player they are. I don't think they're trying to screw me, but I would just rather not be a part of a table like that

I hope you haven't missed this thread.
Or perhaps it's too close, that might prove to be the case for me too [g] Rather, I suspect there will be something about it I don't like, as is the case with Charles Town WV.
Neither casino has my favorite game, UTH, so I used to drive either to AC or Detroit to play it...but it seems that the new Horseshoe in Cleveland has it, so that might become my new home base for that. (Because there's absolutely no other reason for a Pittsburgher to visit Cleveland otherwise. :-)
My home casino should probably be Sandia Resort and Casino since it's the, closest and most convenient for me to get to when I need my fix. It also has the most points of any of my local player's club cards. They also have a beautiful Golf course, Pool and Hotel connected to the Casino.
In almost a tie with them, and only 15 minutes up the road, would be every craps players dream casino The Santa Ana Star. There's just something great about the free buy on the 4 & 10 and Triple on the 2 & 12 Field bet! Mediocre food and no connected Hotel
If I'm in the mood for a little drive to the west and want the best VP machines in the area then it's Route 66. They also have the free buy on the 4 & 10 on their tables too. They do have a Johnny Rocket's and a connected Hotel with a very nice Night Club.
Remember that these are all Native American establishments....so no alcohol allowed on the gaming floor, only in the bar areas, restaurants and clubs!

My Native Americans are different. Senecas encourage drinking while you are gambling. I guess mine are smarter than yours.....

"you will almost never notice it when bad play on someone else's part wins you a hand. I would also suggest not getting too upset with them" >>> Yep, I agree. I did quite a few threads on this subject >>>> Does it (or should it) matter to YOU if others are playing poorly? NO !

I'm in Minneapolis. Home casino is Mystic Lake, in Prior Lake, MN. It's completely dry. Even in the steak house, the "drinks" are grape juice varietals and flavored waters.
I'm moving to Philadelphia in a few months. I guess it'll depend on what part of town I end up in, but I'm thinking that Harrah's Chester might be "home" after the move. Maybe Parx or even Delaware Park in Wilmington or the one in Valley Forge (does it have a name? Valley Forge Convention Center Den of Sin?). I'm thinking I'll get the most mileage out of playing at a CET property, even if it is a crappy one...
Good! You'll finally be able to pick up those ridiculous bounceback offers.Quote: rdw4potusI'm moving to Philadelphia in a few months. I guess it'll depend on what part of town I end up in, but I'm thinking that Harrah's Chester might be "home" after the move.

Let me know about Harrah's chester. I have read from numerous sources that it is not in a safe area.
If a place does not have craps, it ain't a casino! So that rules out our only NC entry (although they are trying to get table games added). I can drive to Hollywood casino near Harrisburg, PA in 6 hours and stay with old friends, so if hard pressed I would call that my home casino.
However, as long as Beau Rivage keeps flying me to Biloxi, I will consider that to be my home casino. Nice hotel and decent sized casino. The best part is the very favorable craps rules in MS, and there are a few other casinos in the immediate area that you can trolley to, for $1.25.

It isn't in a good area at all, but the casino grounds are well patrolled and somewhat separated from the neighborhood. I'd compare it to the Trop in AC versus the area 5 blocks west of the Trop in AC...
I don't feel bad at all leaving my car in the lot at Harrah's Chester, but I wouldn't walk at night from the casino to the gas station up the road.

Darn right! And with my fiancee staying in Wisconsin, I'm all set up with an out-of-state address and everything...:-)
I also have been to Vegas each of the last 4 years during March Madness, and will continue to go there every year until I die. Heaven for me is a harness track, a craps table, a sportsbook and a golf course. Now you can see why Vegas is my favorite city on this planet!
Since moving here, I have apologized to the horse !
Quote: buzzpaffI have relative in the great Pennsylvania metropolis of West Hazelton.
18202 used to be a decent place, but it has been hit really hard by the economy. That part of the county had been slowly dying
anyhow. This just accelerated it. There are still nice pockets of houses, but it's only a matter of time.
Wife's Aunt live with granny and worked in a shoe factory. Lots of places in Pennsylvania dying slowly and sadly.

In 2010, Chester had 24 homicides, and Pennsylvania's highest murder rate of 64.3 per 100,000. The high homicide rate in 2010 prompted then-Mayor Wendell N. Butler, who previously served as the city's police chief before becoming mayor, to implement a "State of Emergency," implimenting 12-hour shifts for the entire city police force, assistance from both the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and the Pennsylvania State Police, and a 9PM to 6AM curfew in five of the city's crime hotspots. The "State of Emergency," which lasted 34-days, coincided with the opening of PPL Park, but was sparked due to the murder of a 3-year old toddler in the city's crime-plagued West End (between Lamokin Street and the western borders with Upper Chichester Township and Trainer Borough).
The city had
14 homicides in 2009,
17 in 2008,
27 in 2007,
18 in 2006,
15 in 2005,
19 in 2004,
In April 2011, a birthday party shooting left two dead and seven injured, making national headlines

I was just down the road a bit this summer, at Arches!
No casinos in Utah, or where I live, in SE Virginia. I have to be a tourist to play.
Anyone familiar with AC and has any advice, I'm all ears. Thanks!

Quote: ZaylaI live on the Jersey Shore, so I guess it's no surprise that I go to Atlantic City. I usually just float around looking for whatever game is best. The last month or so I've been going to Ceasers on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday late at night because they have single deck games.
Anyone familiar with AC and has any advice, I'm all ears. Thanks!
Don't play single deck. They pay 6 to 5.
For me there are to many casino’s to select just one from the Las Vegas area.
However, my preference of area play:
1. The North West Local casino’s
2. Downtown Las Vegas.
3. The Strip
4. Boulder Hwy.
Quote: 1BBDon't play single deck. They pay 6 to 5.
True, but don't they make up for it in other ways? My big complaint is the hitting on soft 17's.
Mohegan Sun the best local.

The house edge on that single deck game paying 6 to 5 is over three times that of an Atlantic City six deck game offering S17. If there are any additional poor rules on the single deck such as restricted doubling the house edge is even higher. Add poor penetration and it's unplayable in my opinion.
